I know:) . I can't help myself. Whether I like a show or not, I'll find myself buying it. Some shows I can't stand on TV, but once I bring them home on DVD I enjoy them (for example, M*A*S*H/ Cheers/ Gilligan's Island/ Green Acres).
Plus I figure if I call myself "TV Adam", I'd better have a good library of television shows on DVD.;)

All I have is Three's Company season 1.
I want to get Saved by the Bell. Other than those all the shows I really like are NOT on DVD right now! The Brady Bunch, Full House, Family Ties, Family Matters, Leave it to Beaver, and more! When are those coming to DVD! Other than that, I don't care about other shows. Well, except more of Three's Company and SBTB.

the latest addition to my have list is:
Greatest '70s Cop Shows, a single disc compilation of Starsky And Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Rookies, S.W.A.T. and Police Woman episodes. I figured I'd also be poor buying season sets of all I wanted (like Charlie's Angels and Starsky & Hutch), so I've got this one to satisfy my 70s cop show fix.

One cartoon I REALLY want them to come out with on DVD is DuckTales. I started watching that in 1987, when they first debuted. I LOOOOOOOVE that cartoon :D

I'm stunned by how many shows some of you have on DVD. I don't have many TV DVDs, but it is an eclectic collection, I think:
The Dick Van Dyke Show (seasons 1-3)
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (season 1)
Mr. Bean -- The Whole Bean (all 14 episodes)
The Osbournes (season 1)
The Sopranos (seasons 1-4)
The Vicar of Dibley -- The Divine Collection (all 16 episodes)
I only wish that The Bob Newhart Show or Newhart were available on DVD. Also, I'm hoping more seasons of The Mary Tyler Moore Show will be released eventually, but that's not looking too promising.

Because I dont plan on buying "Jonny Quest".... but will buy the other 3.... Flintstones, Scooby Doo, The Jetsons.... and possibly more.

Well, the good thing if the "1" does refer to it simply being season one, they're sort of letting you know that they plan on releasing more. It definitely feels like some sort of numbered series of releases.

there is a "1" on both the Scooby Doo and The Flintstones sets.
Im guessing this implies "volume 1" of the particular series.
I wonder if ALL scooby doo series will see the light of day in Season sets.
if your in debate over which to get between Scooby Doo and The Flintstones.... Id go with The Flintstones. But Scooby Doo is good too.
Actually, Ive watched more Scooby Doo than The Flinstones.... save the best for last!

I decided to get the regular edition. For a few hours, I was feeling "fan guilt" for not springing for the super-duper edition, but I just couldn't justify paying an extra $70 for it.

I just bought the DVD's through TimeLife :) The boxset is scheduled to be released in stores on June 8th, but TimeLife is releasing individual DVD's now. The DVD's have the same exact content as the discs in the boxset, only the booklet in the boxset has more content. That's the only difference. I just went ahead and bought all 5 discs from TimeLife because I'm just too impatient, lol.

There's a note on tvshowsondvd (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=1402) about the 2nd season of Starsky & Hutch coming later this summer, good news for fans of the show to see such a quick first season to second season turn around. I'm still considering adding the first season to my collection. As for Freaks and Geeks, anyone who's been just considering it, you need to get it already. You need to own it and have it in your collection. It's a funny, heart-breaking, real show. Seriously, it's like real life, you know people who are just like the characters on this show. The show itself would be enough, but there's a 28 page booklet with pictures, episode notes and cast lists. Plus commentary, deleted scenes, bloopers, audition tapes and promos. And that's just the "standard" version. If you can afford it, get it. It's a quality show and an excellent dvd release.

I know that I am going to be broke this summer:lol: I love Starsky and Hutch..also I want to purchase Wonder Woman the Complete First Season

I'm trying to figure out whether ot not I want to buy the first season of Wonder Woman. The thing is I'm not too crazy about the first season when it was set during WWII. I liked it better when it was set in the 70's.

I know what you mean. Shows that I initially felt I didn't like enough to want to buy them, I sample them (like Starsky & Hutch or Charlie's Angels) and end up wanting to buy the whole season set. Now that I think about it, I wonder how come I don't already have the Charlie's Angels set, when I loved them as a little kid in the 70's. The interesting thing is how some releases are tied in to marketing, like the S&H movie. I'm already kind of irked that I'll see a nice, new Fat Albert set released when the live-action movie comes out to replace the space-taking ten volume Time-Life set I already have.

Yes, it was, which is why the first season isn't really my favorite :) It's still watchable though. Maybe I'll ask for it for my birthday or something.

Newest addition to my list (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&postid=1499563#post1499563) I got for free. I got the idea from Undercover Angel. Seeing as how I have a Sony card and acquire points everytime I use it and the points can be used on Sony products, I had more than enough points accumulated to get a tv-dvd set. Remembering how much I loved Farrah, Jaclyn and Kate, I chose Charlie's Angels, season one. I'll be getting SBTB, seasons 3 & 4 on Friday.

A question about the Charlie's Angels, season one set: are the discs in your set in 5 slim cases as opposed to a single digipak? They packaged mine in 5 different colored slimcases, it's kinda tacky to have them loose like that.

yes...I have the same multi-colored, plastic disc cases...and I agree that having the discs not connected to the box a major pain, because I had the discs all fall out on me a few times...

What do you expect, it WAS 1989 when they started.
I also remember that one of their first things they came out with was their Christmas Special, also in 1989.
I also remember when The Simpsons took off in popularity in 1990. I don't remember which place it was that offered this - probably Burger King - but you could get a plush Simpsons character with your meal, and I have the complete family.
I haven't watched the Simpsons regularly in a long time, and want to start up again.

Dang. I brought a DVD tower (not the kind with the individual slots for thin DVD's) about a month or two back, and it's more than halfway filled up. I have a VHS shelf and it's so full, it collapsed on me twice.

Friends season One, I bought for my sister. She never watched it. One day I felt like watching a show I had never really seen before. I popped in Friends and watched the whole season. Then I went out and bought seasons 2 & 3. Then I got out of it for a while. Just in the past month I went out and bought season 4,5,6 & 7. Currently I'm up to the third episode of season 6.
Frasier season One, I bought due to Barwars88. After he said he was going to blind buy NewsRadio, I figured I could do the same for his favorite (or second favorite) show. I really like the show and even bought season 2. However, I can't move through this show as fast as I could Friends. I can watch six episodes of Friends in a row, whereas I can only watch about three episodes of Frasier at a time.

what is the excuse for Fox to be so sluggish with the Simpsons DVD's? Season 4 is just coming out soon, and season 1's been out nearly 3 years. And at the rate Fox does other series on DVD (I know Mash and Buffy come out at 2/3 seasons a year), there is absolutely no excuse why Fox isn't at season 7 at least now. I can understand cable channels such as Showtime and HBO doing one a year, but when they started releasing shows like The Sopranos, Six Feet Under or Sex And The City on DVD, there were only 2 seasons that had been aired at the time, and the third seasons were getting under way. Simpsons on the other hand are on something like season 15... I don't think cranking out 2 a season is going to be in any danger.
I almost contemplated getting season 1 when it came out on DVD to try and get myself back into the show (I quit watching around 92... but kinda would like to see ones I missed), but not when you consider Fox will always be at least 11 years behind on DVD. It's time to catch up a little. Even if Fox did 2 seasons a year on DVD, season 15 probably wouldn't be ready for DVD until 2008-2009.

The reason The Simpsons is taking so long to come out, is really no excuse at all, but --
Matt Groening and company dont care about the DVDs until the current season is done.
Then they record all of the commentaries -- THEN the season comes out.
They should just record 3 or 4 seasons worth of commentaries at the end of each production season.
The Simpsons will never be out completely on DVD at this rate -- HD-DVD will (hopefully not) take over by then.

Hmm. Right now, I really just want to see the early years. I don't care too much about the later years...Just the seasons from when I was a little girl. I haven't seen any of the eps in 10 to 14 years...y'know?

Phil Hartman was supposed to be the voice of Zapp Brannigan on Matt Groening's other cartoon "Futurama." In fact, the main character, Phillip J. Fry was named after Hartman.

Actually, I do plan on buying "Freaks and Geeks" but for my sister's birthday (June 5). As for the others, I have no interest in buying or watching Sopranos and 24. I'm still undecided about Smallville though. None of those series have I actually watched a full episode of. I'm just not big on dramas.
I do agree that for it to be "perfect" it would have to have a nice balance of variety. But I'm just into sitcoms. My two favorite sci-fi shows (Quantum Leap & Sliders) come out this Summer!

Good job on buying F&G, it's a great show. It's a shame that you're not big on dramas, you're missing out on some good stuff. I got into both 24 and Sopranos late, on dvd, as opposed to watching them on tv, and after sampling both I thought each one was the greatest series I ever saw. "24" is great for edge-of-your-seat suspense, and while the Sopranos isn't a sitcom, there's a lot of humor in it. Anyway, you still have a cool collection, you own practically all the titles I have aside from the dramas. Let me know if you ever consider a trade, I'd gladly take MSCL off your hands. :)

Yeah, I'm not too sold on sci-fi or drama either, but I LOVED Quantum Leap and Murder, She Wrote as a little girl, and Avonlea (A TV show that was on Disney from 1989 to 1996) when I was growing up.
Man, they gotta put Avonlea out, or else. :o

The only dramas Id even consider buying on DVD:
Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (definately)
Fantasy Island
St. Elsewhere
Wonder Woman
The Dukes of Hazzard
Charlie's Angels
Starsky & Hutch
Alias
Dragnet
Adam-12
Diagnosis Murder

drama's I'd purchase on DVD
Buffy The Vampire Slayer (own seasons 1-5, season 6 is out in 2 weeks)
Charmed (not coming out until late 2005 because of ownership/syndication rights)
Queer As Folk (my friend is selling me seasons 1 and 2 together for $40, they're $100 each in the store)
Six Feet Under (would buy it if I could find it cheap, but not for $100)
outside of those 4 shows, I can't think of any other hour-long series I'd pay for. All 4 of those shows sprinkle in enough comedy to keep them from being too dramatic, many of Buffy and Charmed's episodes could be considered a comedy.

Charmed is alright.... but I dont think Id ever buy it on DVD.
Dramas IMO dont have a lot of replay value.
Especially "whodunit" shows.
But who I am kidding -- Ill be buying Survivor - Season 1 sometime this week and EVERYBODY who knows Survivor knows who won that.

the only must-have seasons IMO would be the first 3 with Shannen Doherty, it never was the same after her character died and was replaced by Rose McGowan, it became too much of a farce. Depending on the price if I'd buy seasons 4 onward or not

Forgive if this isn't exactly on topic concerning the main point of the thread, but it relates to the recent discussion and I'm curious. In terms of movie dvds you own, are they more in-line with your tv-dvd tastes (i.e. sitcom dvds/comedic movies over dramatic shows/dramatic movies)? Or would you be more likely to buy a dramatic movie dvd than a dramatic series dvd?

Good question. I don't have a lot of dramas- I actually can't think of any offhand that I have. The majority of my movie DVD's are comedies, so that reflects my taste with TV show DVD's (sitcoms). :)

Excellent question; generally I purchase DVDs in the Comedy/Sitcom genre, but I will buy a drama if it is from Starsky and Hutch, or another classic 1970's cop show...

I've got 8 strict sitcom dvds so far (Bernie Mac, Good Times, Honeymooners, Jeffersons, Saved By The Bell, Soap, Three's Company, What's Happening) compared to 4 strict dramas (Charlie's Angels, Homicide, Sopranos, 24). Freaks and Geeks falls somewhere in the middle, I think. Though I have more movie dvds that can be classified as dramas than I have comedies. I'm a fan of both, in terms of tv I think I appreciate both genres equally.

That's it for now. The Friends seasons are a double-dip. I used to own season 1-4, but foolishly sold them in November, 2003.
I'm going to continue collecting Friends seasons, and will start on Dick Van Dyke next week.

Is one of them the "Friends" finale? Here's some news I read concerning that release:
Meanwhile, the DVD of the finale - released just five days after the episode aired - turned out to be the best-selling debut of a TV-to-DVD release ever.
It is estimated that about 1.5 million copies of the disc were sold during its first five days on store shelves. The DVD also topped Amazon.com's best-selling DVD chart for the week it debuted earlier this month. Warner Home Video was able to release the disc with unprecedented speed because the episode was actually taped last winter.

You should've just used the Yearbook Edition for the bonus discs and kept the standard edition to watch the episodes, just so the Yearbook edition would be in as close to mint condition as possible, uh...not that you'd ever want to give up your Yearbook edition or anything.

One possibility might have (for example) Best Buy offering a discounted price if you buy all four seasons at once. Knowing there's a ton of stuff you want to get, I don't know how willing you'd be to buy all of them at once. If stealing your bros' copy isn't an option, I'd say bite the bullet and get your own copy. I assume you're a completist and want each season available, you could rub it in your brother's face that you have a nice, pristine collection of the series to date.

Yes...mine does...
All TV's made AFTER 1993 (when they passed a law that year) HAVE to have a closed captioning decoder built INSIDE the TV so that you can access it through the menu. TV's made before 1993 didn't have a decoder inside it, resulting in having to buy a separate decoder (I have one from 1988) to hook up to the TV. Very few movies were closed captioned back then - after 1993, they made it so that all new releases that come out have to be captioned.
You have to check for the CC denotation when buying stuff. It's a major factor I make in my purchases.
It usually looks like one of those two:

or

I don't have that many...
Cheers season 1
Cheers season 2
Cheers season 3
(Yes, I know I could have listed that as "seasons 1-3" - but that one line would have made me look so pathetic. Oh, well...too late; that last sentence already did that;).)

 That's funny. Don't feel bad though, I started out with only the most essential titles and now find it necessary to get anything I have the slightest interest in. So actually you're in good shape by keeping your buying in check. To show you how bad I am:
I just updated my list (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&postid=1499563#post1499563) with Freaks and Geeks - The Limited Deluxe Yearbook Edition.

It's not quantity that counts.... its quality.
And those 3 are on the top of my list.

Target has WTB for $34.99, but I only paid $31.99 for mine, so you can really find it cheaper, it's got really good extras too :)
Quantum Leap and The Dukes of Hazzard are next on my list to buy :)
I haven't watched WTB since I was a little girl (it ended when I was finishing kindergarten in '92), and am very happy it's on N@N. I love it a lot!
Man, I saw Quantum Leap at Target for $40. I WANT IT.

I'll definately be getting Reno 911! - Season 1 next Tuesday.... but I'm undecided whether to buy Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 2 or Who's The Boss? - Season 1.
But with WTB on N@N.... I think I'll go for CYE.
Does WTB have any special features??
(I know CYE doesn't)

No special features.... then I'll go for CYE, and get WTB sometime in July.
But July is a very scarce(sp?) month in terms of TVDVDs (at least for me), there's nothing thats a must-buy, So Im planning on picking up Freaks and Geeks - The Poor Man's Edition along with Who's The Boss? - Season 1.... although exactly when, I'm not sure.

I've only seen small bits and pieces of F&G.... but I've never heard any negative views towards it, and everyone suggests it to me.
The Jetsons.... grew up with it, but never grew out of it.
CYE.... is about $30, but I dont get HBO so DVD is my only way of watching it. I recommend it to anybody that doesn't mind a little "dark" humor.
But between now and the end of July I'll buy....
Who's The Boss? - Season 1
Curb Your Enthusiasm - Season 2
The Jetsons - Season 1
Freaks and Geeks - The Complete Series
Reno 911! - Season 1
The Dick Van Dyke Show - Season 5
but I just had a great idea.... have my uncle get me "Who's The Boss?" (seeing that its from SONY), and then I'll have it for free.
i love connections.

Yes, Freaks and Geeks is that good, though it's not your typical lol sitcom, there's alot of smart humor there.
As for the Who's The Boss special features: my bad. I assumed that Sony's TV on DVD site would list bonus materials and when I saw nothing listed, I assumed it had none.

The only thing they messed up on the WTB season 1 DVD is that they used the second season theme song for season 1 instead of the season 1 theme song, but no biggie to me, I didn't even know that till I read it at the Who's the Boss Rescourse site

If you make it a new topic, I'll post my list there, there's a whole bunch of stuff I like that I don't have. One show in particular is My So Called Life, that's one of my all-time favorite shows and one I thought for sure I'd own if it ever came out on dvd. I simply haven't gotten around to buying it yet. I'm kind of hoping they repackage it nicer, with slimcases as opposed to the bigger amaray cases they're in now.

NEVER, EVER go by what N@N shows.
Just because something is chopped up in syndication, doesn't mean it was meant to be that way.
What's the difference between the Season 1 theme and the Season 2 theme??

No, thats the difference between the Season 2- Season 3 song.
I think that just some of the images you see during the opening credits changed.

thanks to a great sale FYE is having this week (I sent Barwars a PM over this), seasons 1, 2 and 3 of The Simpsons are now in my possession. I have always complained about the sluggish pace they've been releasign them (1 season a year), but hey, at $14.99 a season, who am I to complain? I snatched those suckers right up.
It's been a really long time since I watched The Simpsons (not that I disliked the show, but when Seinfeld moved to Thursday nights, I started watching NBC instead, and usually always forgot the show was on... but, since I am a huge fan of South Park, and also loved the Family Guy episodes I've seen, I figure I'd probably still love Simpsons... and at $14.99, if I dislike it, I could sell it used and probably get just about the same price I paid for it.
