does anyone remember when NICK AT NITE used to be a good channel? When they used to show "My Three Sons", "The Patty Duke Show", "Rowan & Martins Laugh-In", "Make Room for Daddy/The Danny Thomas Show", "F Troop", "Car 54, Where Are You?", "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis/Dobie Gillis", "Green Acres", "The Lucy Show", "The Donna Reed Show" & on saturday night/sunday morning they would show an old movie, mostly a comedy, from 4 to 6 A.M. eastern time, called "The Nick At Nite Movie"?

Now, they show nothing but CRAP!!

I know this has been said many times before on here, but I just felt like saying it again.

Sadly, I caught the cool "100% Unreality" Nick at Nite only in its last month of existance. :(

I remember the good old days, back in the mid 80's. There use to be "Donna Reed", "My Three Sons", "Dennis the Menace", "Mr. Ed", "Route 66" and "I Spy". It was worth the cost of cable just to watch these shows. Now we have Cosby and Roseanne on every channel and nobody never shows the other old shows.

Does anyone remember when American Movie Classics showed black and white movies without commercial interruptions??? It drives me nuts when channels change formats just to get younger viewers. This is what Nick at Nite did.

I have no problem with what N@N is showing....
its HOW they're showing it.

Double takes have ruined the network.

I'm a younger viewer and when The Facts of Life and Diff'rent Stroke was on I watched it every night, but since they added all thses stupid shows I don't watch it any more...

Totally agree. I actually like 2 back-to-back episodes, just not 4 episodes each night of the same show.

No.... Im talking.... 1 show should not take up an hour a night.

There should be 6 different shows on N@N
ALL of them airing before midnight

On other, 24 hour networks it's fine, but N@N has minimum airing time and double takes do nothing but eat up the schedule.

9PM - Full House
10PM - Cosy Show
11PM - Roseanne
12AM - Three's Company
1AM - Wings

Those are the only five shows playing on N@N right now. Even if you get rid of the 3rd and 4th airings, it still gives most Three's Company and Wings fans the shaft. However, if the schedule was like this.

9:00PM - Full House
9:30PM - Cosby Show
10:00PM - Roseanne
10:30PM - Three's Company
11:00PM - Wings

I think fans rather have TC and Wings on at 10:30 and 11:00 than 12 or 1, or the current 1 and 3.

(Although, I think Full House should be completely off since ABC Family seems to have fallen in love with it and airs is CONSTANTLY.)

well, for my personal convienience, I love the "double takes" of Roseanne, just because I'm in the process of taping them all. Better to tape all 9 seasons in about 3 months, than in 6.

Some of us who watch stations like Nick and TV Land are watching with vcr's and taping the episodes, and I am the type who cuts out all commercials too.

I've been furious with N@N ever since The Cosby Show came to the network. They show it all the time!! They gave my shows the complete shaft.. (Family Ties & Cheers) not to mention many other shows (Wings, Coach, etc.) I liked the conversion to "Modern TV Classics" for awhile when they had quality "Modern TV Classics" of the 80s. Now, the selection is really bad. Why is Full House on the network at all? What is "classic" about that? Especially as Original Prankster says ABC Family airs it plenty and at the expense of other shows!!! I used to love N@N, now I don't ever watch unless absolutely nothing else is on!!

It is like Bill Cosby is in charge of programming or something!!

I am not likely to like N@N any better once they change their lineup again in June either.

I also hate the double takes!!! Programming laziness in my opinion.

Perfect Strangers and Family Ties were SUPPOSED to stay on until AT LEAST JANUARY, originally. What happened? At the last SECOND, They pull a bait & switch, add more airings of the aforementioned crap, and have to put on, I believe, it was All in the Family and Coach, in their spots (both of which are now gone too. One of which to TV Land, the other, to the grave)

But, I remember when they aired all those other shows. Like Archie & Edith Bunker sing "Those were the Days"! I remember, I always used to wish that our VCR could record cable TV, so I could tape their entire llineup.
Now, there's no freakin' way I would even THINK about doing that!! I heard that when NICKALODEON first started N@N, they even showed some episodes of a show that's supposed to be one of the worst sitcoms ever. "My Mother the Car".

Does anyone also remember those funny promos they used to show back then?

I have had N@N since the day they signed on the air back in 85. I don't ever remember them , or Nickelodeon for that matter showing My Mother, the Car. TV Land I believe had it on their schedule at one time.

I agree that N@N has gone downhill, same with TV Land, AMC, Hallmark, TBS, Game Show network,..well just about all of them.

The reason why Cosby, Roseanne, Full House, Friends, Simpsons, seems to be on EVERY channel is because the networks hire consultants who tell them that "..everyone wants Cosby". So the networks get Cosby. As I said in an earlier post I can see some 24 year old consultant tell Viacom ( or whoever ) that most 20 and 30 somethings would rather see shows like Cosby, Roseanne, Law & Order, OZ, and The Sopranos than a show with most of the characters are dead and dated. And since advertisers believe that only 20 & 30 somethings buy the cars, houses, take the trips to Vegas, then the networks put on shows like Friends and Law & Order several times a day/night.

Just like radio, they use these jokers all the time. In fact some oldies stations no longer call themselves "oldies. Guess thats why one never hears Dino Desi & Billy or little 50s stuff on the radio anymore. Instead I hear the same Supremes tune 10 times a day and other so-called oldies like Tina Turner's "Private Dancer" or Billy Joel's "uptown girl".

USA used to show sitcoms at one time, not they just as well should change their name to "ML&O" as in the "Monk & Law and Order" channel since it seems thats all I ever see on there!!

With news about N@N having the highest ratings in its history and the success of USA, I have grave doubts we'll see Alice, Maude, Gimmie A Break, or even The Facts of Life on TV anytime soon. When Fred Berry died last year I heard that of all the 1000+ TV stations in the country, only TWO carried reruns of Whats Happening. Very sad !! Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if I Love Lucy disapears from TV within the next 3 years, that would have already happened if not the work of Lucie Arnaz & Desi Jr. with their Desilu TOO. They have done a great job in keeping the memory of their parents alive.

But it will come to an end. Not even Lucie Arnaz can stop some young consultant wearing a suit and tie, walking into the offices of Viacom telling the programing department "..Lucy is DEAD, the younger generation dont want to watch that crap !! The best way to reach that desirable demographic is to air 10 episodes of Miami CSI on TV Land. Most folks want to see blood, guts, nude bodies and hear dirty words than some dead woman in a B/W show smoking cigarettes and a stupid fool yelling babalu every 10 minutes".

Sorry to be so negative. Oh well, there is always the idea of getting classic TV shows on DVD!

count me in as someone who actually would rather listen to Tina, Billy and The Supremes (who are oldies IMO) to Dean Martin. What radio station you listen to? I haven't heard Private Dancer on the radio in over a decade, if I ever hear Tina, it's What's Love Got To Do With It

Monk's actually a good show, my 67 year old mother watches it every week. Tony Shalhoub DESERVED his Emmy. Try giving a show from the last 25 years a chance, you might actually find some decent ones out there. Not watching something because it doesn't compare with Lucy is like not giving any music from the last 25 years a chance because it doesn't compare with The Beatles.

MONK is a good show, though it is a bit tricky watching it at my house since my roommate has OCD (like Monk) as well as Bipolar disorder. She believes Monk makes fun of those with OCD and finds the show offensive. I disagree but out of respect to her, I usually watch something else when its on. Now Law & Order, not putting the show down as far as quality goes but what is the purpose of showing it 2, 3 times a day, 5 -6 days a week? Heck, I love Mama's Family but I wouldn't want to see the Harper clan on every channel 7 days a week !! USA , TnT ( or anybody else)should give other dramas a chance, just like Nick@Nite should air more different sitcoms and less repeats of a shows they aired earlier in the same evening. Whatever happened to the word "mix"? I read on another site not too long ago that channels like Nick show Cosby and Roseanne becuase they have to "play it safe". Safe from what? Does Viacom really believe if they would put a show, say Whats Happening on Nick@Nite, people will tune out?

Whats the purpose of so-called "superstations" like TBS and WGN
showing Cosby or Friends when they are available elsewhere. Since just about every area of the US has at least one channel offering Friends, heck TBS & WGN might as well revert back to being a local station for Atlanta and Chicago only

I believe there should be place for everything. Shows from the 50s, 60s, etc... With so many channels out there and in the age of digital TV, there should be a place for most of them. So many channels but only a few shows are seen and chances are a lot classic TV will never be seen because networks believe no one whats to see them. Thats tragic !!

RIGHT ON SALLY !!!!!
GO GIRL !!!!
:happyface

I'm so sick of hearing the same 100 "oldies" or the same 100 "80's" songs or whatever. I want some good station with LIVE HUMAN BEING DJ's, not stupid tracked announcers.
I miss the old days of real top 40 radio when one could hear: The Supremes, Osmonds, Black Sabbath, Dean Martin, The Carpenters, and The Partridge Family all on one channel.
Today if a song wasn't an #1 hit, forget hearing it ever again.

As for N@N I won't even go there, suffice it to say the suck wind like most all other networks. I think these networks are afraid to show anything B&W because they think most younger people won't like it.
Demographics confuse me. What age bracket has the most "disposable" money ??? People aged 40 to 70, not 18 to 34. Most of them are broke or are trying to support a family and go to college or put kids though school. No offense intened to anyone in that age bracket, as I am 31 but live alone because I'm a grouch most of the time

Yet they won't air shows that most people over 34 would want to see (and therefore see the commercials and maybe buy things that were advertised).

Chad
