An hour of Jim?! Why? Does it take that long to fit his fat ass on the frame?

If you don't like IWH, just take it off the air. Between the Charlie Brown specials, the Prez interview, and now this, how do you expect people to stay tuned?

Mini rant over.

Relax, dude, "I'm With Her" will be back with a new episode on January 27, and besides, all of the networks are showing reruns before the State of the Union speech anyway. (At least CBS and NBC rerun their regularly scheduled shows, but that's another gripe.) Except for Fox, which is showing "American Idol 3." Could it be that ABC is intimidated by Fox's agressive Tuesday night reality programming of late? Hmmmm. . . .

I'm guessing they're opting for "Jim" reruns because "Jim" is a third-year veteran sitcom, while "8SR" is less seasoned and "I'm With Her" is still a freshman. But who's going to watch TV tomorrow anyway? State of the Union speeches are a waste of time! :D

If this were the first one, yeah, I wouldn't be as fired up. But they've already pulled this crap with IWH this season. Now, I don't watch any other ABC shows, but has any other show had this done to them?

If you can't rage on the internet, what is the purpose? ;)

"8SR." It too was affected by the Peanuts Christmas specials and this week's schedule. True, the one-hour "8SR" pre-empted "I'm With Her" on November 4, but "8SR" was preempted by the Peanuts Halloween show a week earlier, and "I'm With Her" aired as usual.

Ironically, "8SR" has managed to overcome the loss of John Ritter, doing very respectably in the ratings , and "I'm With Her" has repeatedly retained over ninety percent of the "8SR's" 18-49 audience. Hmm, why is ABC giving preference to the less talented Belushi brother this week?

*gasp* I like ATJ :) But I do agree, ABC does this crap all the time, is it a wonder that over 80% of most network shows don't survive the first 13 weeks? Just imagine if they'd done this to M*A*S*H or Cheers, we wouldn't have the favorites we've loved for so long.

WAKE UP ABC!!!!!!!!!!

I hope someone from ABC is reading this thread! :D

ABC chose to air an hour of Jim reruns instead of 8SR and IWH because they knew no one would be watching. With the President on at 9, there wasn't a lot of original TV on.

I do worry that both 8SR and IWH will suffer with the return of AI. Why waste a first run episode of this show before the president and against the much hyped return of AI? Why not waste a Jim rerun here?

They could not do the 8SR repeat now because there just aren't enough shows unaired yet. IWH does best with an 8SR lead in so why not shelve them both since no one was watching anyway. I'm sure movies did well on Tuesday night with the non political minds. Movies and AI. Anything else is just irrelevant so why waste a good IWH when you don't have to?

After seeing Fox air "The Simple Life" opposite "I'm With Her," followed by part of "American Idol 3" overlapping that same time slot, I'm convinced that Andre Agassi - the ex-husband of Brooke Shields, "IWH"'s muse - is secretly helping Fox plan its Tuesday night schedules!

"'I'm With Her'. . . the show Andre Agassi won't watch" - a TV critic on the show's connection to Brooke Shields

That's really funny. However, you can't blame Fox for the AI thing. AI has always had the 8-9 on Tuesday slot for its performance hour. They'll be competing with it the rest of the season. It's unfortunate that ABC gave them that timeslot, but something has to go up against Idol just like something has to go up against Survivor.

But then, "8SR" and "I'm With Her" are sitcoms, not reality game shows, and so they appeal to an entirely different audience. Is that sitcom audience big enough to help ABC hold its own on Tuesday nights, where they've done moderately well so far? We'll see.

I don't know about appealing to different audiences. Judging from Idol's ratings so far and for the past 2 seasons, Idol's appeal seems to cross the lines of all demographics. People just really seem to get invested in these contestants. I know I generally watch sitcoms, but I was so wrapped up in Idol last year that no one had dare better even call me when it was on. I dropped everything to watch it. And then whatever else was on, I taped.

Everything seems to lose ratings when it's against Idol. The only thing that MIGHT not lose ratings is if you pit Idol vs. Survivor. Those are the same demographic. I don't watch Survivor. I'm a Friends girl, but I know a lot of people who do.

The advantage of a reality show over a full run series is the time investment required. The most you have is 15 weeks of shows like Idol and The Apprentice. They're always fresh and easy to watch. You don't have to invest a full season. You know they won't be rerun so you have to catch them the first time around. With sit coms, there are generally reruns so the same mentality isn't there. Both are things Fox has in its favor on Tuesday nights.

There is one timeslot IWH could have that is worse -- Wednesday night in the 8:30 hour. It's All Relative, another great new sitcom has to fight that battle. They compete with the last half (better known as the You're Fired half) of The Apprentice and the results show of Idol.

I'm With Her is a great show. I'm not saying anything negative about it. There are very few really good sit coms on this year. There are a lot of shows like According to Jim and Good Morning Miami that I'll watch just because they're on. You know, it's kind of that ho hum attitude there. IWH and 8SR are in a class above those shows.

There are a lot of fine creative people behind this show. And they have managed to get some amazing guest stars who rarely do TV like Penny Marshall. However, a show with the ratings punch of Idol will be tough to say the least. If ABC will just stay with it, it should be back next year. For a network that has hung with 10-8 and Less Than Perfect, that shouldn't be tough. But then again, over at NBC, they cancelled a critically aclaimed show that won a Peabody Award (Boomtown) because of lack of patience and lack of a good timeslot. They threw it on the two nights nobody watches TV. So one can never tell how patient a network will be even when it comes to quality programming.

I'm sure ABC will stick with "I'm With Her." Consistent scheduling, with as few changes as possible, has been a part of ABC's strategy for some time now. If ABC allows "I'm With Her" to stay where it is and maintain a strong, loyal audience, it will prosper. :)

By the way, if you think ABC is bad, take a look at what NBC is doing to its shows! They can't schedule a luncheon, let alone their television programs, without lousing it up - especially now that their Thursday night lineup is slowly falling apart!

LOL so true, look what they're doing to Scrubs, they're putting the Apprentice in place of it, that poor show can't catch a break. :(
From what I read they're moving Scrubs to Tues, or Weds :(
