I read something about a toilet being in an episode on some posts (i cant remember which one!) but today i read a post that said they never were able to show a toilet in that show...so what exactly did they show in that supposed episode with the toilet??hehe

It was in the episode "Captain Jack." They showed only the tank of the toilet. Beaver & Wally were hiding their pet alligator in it.
Maybe that is why TVLand won't show that one come to think of it. They are afraid kids might try that, too! You never know.....

I don't remember for certain if there was a "law" about showing a toilet, it may have been up to the "standards and practices" of a certain show, but I do know that most of the shows didn't "display" a toilet. But, I do remember that in the 50's, we did actually USE them! :)
I remember when Jack Parr quit the "Tonight Show" on live TV, as they would not allow him to use a joke with the words "water closet" in it!!! He walked out, and explained what happened to him and his joke, started crying, and walked off the stage. This was on LIVE tv!

Didn't the network itself try to censor the toilet in Captain Jack?
The 1950s was a far more conservative era than today but that seems a bit ridiculous! Remember the movie "Pleasantville" when she went into the restroom and there was no toilet?

I think the networks were mostly prone to censor our of fear of their sponsors. That is what paid for the shows, and get them upset, you could lose the money support for the show. Some sponsors could be very picky about what they liked and didn't like on "their" shows.
