Tonight we had a wrapping party at work for the names we chose off of an Angel Tree early in November.
If anyone remembers I made a post back then about choosing names off of a tree - an "ANGEL TREE". The specific tree we chose had names of children coming out of a shelter - children that weren't going to have a Christmas. We paired up and all chose a name - 25 kids total. We involved our children in the project, had them choose the gifts, etc.
Tonight was so amazing. We had some 45 kids wrapping presents - all on their own - for kids they did not know, kids that were "nameless" and faceless but kids that would be so thrilled Christmas morning.
Some gave more than others - we asked a minimum of $25 per chlid but many many of us went above and beyond what was "required". I made handmade crochet blankets for both names I had chosen. One was a newborn baby girl - imagine having a new baby and coming out of a shelter at Christmas and having nothing. The other was a little 5 year old girl who loved Bratz dolls. :) The entire process was anonymous, we don't know any of them but I would love so much to see this children at Christmas open these gifts because there was a lot of thought put into so many of them.
Things in my life are not so hot right now but I left that 'wrapping party' tonight feeling very content. There are 25 kids this Christmas who are going to be a lot happier and have a better Christmas than they would have otherwise. It's a really nice feeling. :)
The local newspaper was in taking photo's of everyone wrapping, taking information and everything. It was a pretty big deal :) I hope our kids realize how big of a thing it was that they did tonight :)
