The only ones I've seen were Helen Hunt in "As Good As It Gets", Gwyneth Paltrow in "Shakespeare in Love", and Jodi Foster in "Silence of the Lambs." I choose Helen Hunt because that movie she won an Oscar for is really funny and is my favorite of the three.

Ditto! Although I love both Holly Hunter and Kathy Bates, The Piano was very depressing and I think that Holly should have won an Oscar for Raising Arizona!
But Kathy Bates was mesmerizing in Misery. She deserved it!

But Frances gets my vote "for Peck's sake"

I guess Hilary. I always thought Susan Sarandon or Geena Davis should have won for Thelma & Louise. I guess it's good that Jodie did, because I could never decide which of the 2 would deserve it more.

Tough one. I decided to go with Susan Sarandon, because her performance was top-notch in Dead Man Walking (which I just saw for the first time this week).

Kathy Bates definately deserved her Oscar for Misery - it's definately the best performance I've ever seen by her. Still, I think Susan surpassed her (if only by a hair).

Frances McDormand was great in Fargo, I just really didn't like the movie or the role for that matter. She did a good job with it, but I still didn't care for the part itself.

Emma Thompson is one of my favorite actresses of all time, but honestly, she shouldn't have won for Howards End. I love that movie, but I always thought Helena Bonham Carter's performance surpassed Emma's by a mile. Emma should have won for Much Ado About Nothing or Sense & Sensibility.

Gwyneth Paltrow's performance was totally overrated for Shakespeare in Love. Good job yes, but did anyone actually think she looked like a boy? Come on! The best performance that year was definatley Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth - even Gwyneth acknowledged her in her acceptance speech.

I don't know why in the world Helen Hunt won for As Good as it Gets. In that year, she was the weakest nominee. Helena Bonham Carter was phenomenal in Wings of the Dove, Judi Dench was the top runner for Mrs. Brown, Julie Christie in Afterglow, even Kate Winslet in Titanic... and they gave it to Helen Hunt? There was nothing special in Helen's performance AT ALL.

Holly Hunter won the Oscar for the most annoying performance I've ever seen. I can't believe she won, she just - urgh, I really hated The Piano. Boring movie, annoying woman, I don't know why anyone won anything for that movie (and I'm a Jane Campion fan - go figure!)

Okay, I still haven't seen Blue Sky, but Jessica Lange already had an oscar from Tootsie. Why'd she have to go and beat out Winona Ryder for Little Women? Grrr. I'm still ticked off about that.

And Jodie Foster of course deserved her Oscar, although I'll admit, I still can't watch Silence of the Lambs all the way through. I'm a chicken. I can believe Hillary Swank deserved her Oscar for Boys Don't Cry - but I never had any desire to see that movie.

Okay, I'm done :)
