Which version of this classic is your favorite? Mine is most definitely the 1970 musical version with
Albert Finney. (http://www.dumbesttv.cheeb.com/images/carol2.jpg) I watch it every year & every time, it makes me wish I could jump into the screen & join in the singing & dancing! (plus, some of the ghost scenes are genuinely creepy!)

The only one I've seen is the 1938 version with Reginald Owen as Scrooge. I really liked it.

I like the 1984 version with George C. Scott the best.

It *is* a great movie, isn't it? :)
The cast looks like they're having so much fun! ("The minister's cat is a la-zy cat!!")
Back around 1979, there was a pretty lame version w/ Henry Winkler as Scrooge. Didn't like that one.

I love all versions of a Charles Dickens classic:
1. "A Christmas Carol" (1938)
2. "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol" (1962)
3. "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983)
4. "A Christmas Carol" (1984)
5. "The Flintstones' Christmas Carol" (1992)
The only radio version I loved the best is:
"The WNBC Christmas Carol" starring Don Imus as Ebenezer Scrooge from 1973. I love that version.

Either the 1951 version with Alistair Sim or the 1984 version with George C. Scott. :)

Don't forget the movie "Scrooged" with Bill Murry. That featured a spoof of Charles Dickens' classic "A Chiristmas Carol".

"Scrooge" is a great musical. In my theater days I did several productions. It's a shame the movie is not shown as much as some other versions of "Christmas Carol."
I have always thought this would be a perfect film to remake. Some network could have another Holiday classic on their hands if they did.
As far as non musical versions of the Dickens Classic, mine would have to be the 1984 version with George C. Scott.
Hard to believe that show will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary next Christmas.

We watched the 1938 version, the one w/ Alastair Sim (sp?), the one w/ Albert Finney, AND the muppets version all in drama...I am Christmas Caroled OUT.
My fav is Scrooged w/ Bill Murry...I don't really like the others.

I just watched that! I love it! It has all the elements of a great movie. Drama, comedy, sadness, spookiness and some really great songs!
Thank you very much........................:D

I like the George C Scott version too! He was just fabulous! What a great actor he was!
But the musical is the best! TJL, I would be afraid to see a remake of the musical I have a feeling it would be too contemporary as many remakes have been!

Alistair Cooke (not Alistair Sim, Alistair Cooke) said that he considered the George C. Scott version to be the best adaptation of Dickens's story because Scott's Scrooge "comes across as a realistic banker character, handsome in a portly way, and not some whining, dancing Scrooge as had been portrayed in most other film versions of the book."
P.S. Albert Finney appeared in the 1984 version as Scrooge's father in the shadows of Christmas past! Check it out!! :)

The 1938 version is the best because its unintentionally funny.

I would freak if they did a contemporary remake.
NBC had penty of cash. Surely they could spring for a full blown Dicken's London set and period costumes.
Oh, and Kelsey Grammer is Scrooge!

Me, too! I love it - the songs are great. I have not seen it on TV for a long time, but my parents have it on laserdisc, so we watch it every year. I noticed when it aired on TV, though, that several scenes were cut out - like the toy store scene at the end, and the "Christmas future" scene where Scrooge is in hell. I'm glad I can see it uncut anytime.
