I've never heard that. According to Jerry Mathers book, the whole cast got along very well.

I think Frank mentioned something about this in his book. I can't remember specifically, but something about Jerry thinking that Hugh was too strict? I really don't remember it too well, but I do remember it being mentioned that there was a little tension between them.

I'll have to get Franks book. I've never read it. It's interesting to hear different opinions.

I know Jerry really liked Hugh at first because I read where Hugh had worked with Jerry before in something and had helped him with a scene (about crying), so when Hugh tried out for the part of Ward, Jerry prayed that Hugh would get the part because he like Hugh so much. I always assumed they got along. I don't remember reading anything in the two books that would indicate trouble; but I haven't read Frank's book.

In Jerry's book ( And Jerry Mathers as the Beav )
There was no Indication, that ( Hugh and Jerry ) did'nt get along, according to Jerry, they got along very well, in fact years later, Hugh bumps into Jerry and tells him about this workshop, that he's doing for the youth, & asks him if he would like to help him with it.
and they were very happy to see each other.

If they didn't get along they were great at covering it up. I just loved some of the earlier scenes when Beaver was little and how well Jerry and Hugh interacted as father and son. Some of those more touching scenes were just so adorable. If there was ever a time when they didn't get along I would imagine it was during Jerry's puberty stage when he became downright annoying and repulsive.

I just love the scenes when Beaver is little and whenever he is very happy about something he will kiss Ward on the cheek.

ditto with that last sentence!!
i was reading in Frank Bank's book that Hugh and Jerry were like water and oil, they weren't always acting when it called for father and son tension on the show. but those books are so full of errors that i don't know what to believe. in jerry's he said that he met Hugh at a store a little before his death and Hugh hugged Jerry, then out of the blue he just started cussing like a sailor. then he apologized and hugged jerry...

But Hugh's personality reaction had nothing to do with Jerry. Hugh had been suffering from Tourett's Syndrome, a personality disorder than can involentarily cause people to pull on their bodies (i.e do things like violently pull their hair out) and scream and yell for no reason and be back to normal moments later. It's treatable with medication. Hugh had tragic health problems later in life. He suffered a stroke in 1972, that left half of his face paralized, and died of a heart attack in 1982, while visiting his son who was a college professor in Germany.
How many kids did Hugh have btw?

There is an actor named Chris Beumont who was in a Brady Bunch Episode (3 actually) and I often wondered if he was Hugh's son?
