I know. I like Kathy. And I feel that had she been there Jerri wouldve been the one to go, because Kathy didnt want to get rid of Colby before- didnt make sense to her. But since Kathy was gone, that meant Shi Ann had to *gasp* think for herself. Hell, she should stick to listening to Kathy!

I've joined many forums over time and I've noticed a consistent trend in how you need to join them. Many people barge in and start posting with no regard for the general climate. This is analogous to walking into a foreign country and not only expecting everyone will speak english, but being loud and obnoxious and expecting other people to accommodate you.
Ridiculous.
The internet is subdivided into sub-kingdoms ruled by those with the means, luck, and skill (often in that order) to manage and keep a web forum up with enough members to keep it viable. Each community has its own quirks, but there are many things that they share in common and you need to approach them each appropriately if you expect to be accepted there. Larger and/or better established communities tend to seem the most intimidating to newbies, but can also provide the most diverse experience. Joining online bulletin boards can be a rewarding experience, but you have to, have to approach it in the right way.
I can hear you chiming in now: "But I just want to talk to fellow members of _______ community! We should all be able to share in that joy without all this political bull****." You don't walk into the London Museum of Natural History and expect them to let you stay if you are being loud and obnoxious, attempt to turn the rosette stone to get a better look, or otherwise make an ass of yourself. The same is true on web forums--most will accept you with open arms, but there are some common sense rules to follow when you join. They see people like you every day and if you can't take the time to learn the ropes of a forum before posting something that's been answered a hundred thousand times why should anyone on the forum take the time to get to know you?
Signing up.
* One forum at a time. You can join and be an active part of as many forums as you like, but try to only come into one at a time.
* When you first join the forum, sign up with a username and a password. If your username is the same, make sure that at least your password is different from any other password you use on an open web forum. Later, when you've joined lots of forums, it may come in as a lifesaver if you happened to run into one of the more "predatory" boards.
* Know the topic of the forum and what kinds of things are discussed before signing up.
* Choose a name that is distinct, but not likely to draw ridicule. People should recognize you, but associate your name with you, not with a joke they heard three years ago. Here's a hint: do not choose a name that will readily be associated with the board (such as one starting with AmyLee on an Evanescence board) and if your name is rejected as someone else having it don't pick the same name and add numbers after it.
* The issues in large forums and small forums are different, but large, well established forums tend to be more complex, dynamic, and less tolerant of you.
Lurking.
* I cannot emphasize the importance of lurking enough--even if its just for a couple of hours. Read the FAQs. Often there will be forum specific FAQs and a general, site-wide FAQ. Regardless--seek them out and read them thoroughly. If you don't, be prepared for the consequences (which may include banning).
* Every forum has a pecking-hierarchy. Figure it out. If someone named ToB is on top, recognize it. Do not try and criticize or take on mods, admins, or anyone who has been there longer than you--you will lose. You may politely disagree with them in a discussion and you may debate, but that should be the extent of it--don't attack them.
* Occasionally forums will have a political hierarchy which may or may not be the same as their pecking hierarchy (though there is often some degree of correlation). There are members of U-P that are near the bottom of one and at the top of the other. On the (now defunct) King of the Jungle boards for Animal Planet one member held enormous political power as a mod, but rarely participated outside of official mod duties. Identify how this works. Even if you don't quite know who's who or how things work, have a rough idea of what it means when there is "Oversight" written under someone's name.
* Every forum has an "in language." This is a natural consequence of a group of people working together over time--don't complain, learn it. You don't have to know it all before you begin posting, but you should be able to recognize the basics of it.
* Every forum has different rules for posting. Figure them out. Some don't like double posting (posting twice in a row), others actively encourage it if you are switching responses (responding to different people). Some forums would prefer (or even require) that you just restart a thread that you have something insightful to add to if its been dead for too long--they do not allow what one forum calls "necromancy": bringing threads back from the dead. Others strictly disallow this and want you to resurrect the old thread. Two extremes for this are evBoard and the Megatokyo forums--the former has a strict policy in that you must resurrect threads, the later has a strict policy that threads must be restarted if they are too old.
* Figure out what posts go where. Sometimes its obvious, sometimes it isn't. Figure out if they expect you to make an introductory post--some do, some don't, some actually have rules against you doing such. Know these things before making your first post.
* Some forums have "microcommunities" between the individual boards of a larger forum community. These communities can be as different as completely different forums (take UP and UGT) and you will need to approach each one as if you were approaching a completely separate web forum. Most of the time these subdivisions lead to slightly different changes in climate, not major ones, but they are significant enough that you need to take note of them.
First Post!
* Read all of the posts in a thread before replying. Not just the first three, not the last three. If you are good at synthesis and can add something insightful to what others are saying, feel free to only read a few pages of the thread before replying. If you are just going to state your view or are going to try to add something insightful you need to read everything or else don't post. Here's a hint: most people aren't good at synthesis, chances are good you aren't.
* If you **** up, don't argue, even if you think you did nothing wrong (especially if you think you did nothing wrong). Accept it, apologize if appropriate and in a way that's appropriate, and move on. The mods donate their time and on a large forum that can be a significant chore. They do not feel like arguing with you over whether you were right. Arguing is also a quick indicator that you might be a ghost of a past troll, come to haunt the population.
* Don't post a thread (unless its an introduction and you are joining a forum which encourages them)--reply to someone else's posts. This is a good policy until you get a much better hang for the forum.
* Don't post something they would have heard a hundred thousand times. "Evanescence ruuuuulez who agrees?" is not going to win you style points on an evanescence oriented board--they are there because they think Evanescence rocks, you asking who's with you in bad english is not going to help your status.
Continuing With Posting
* 8th grade education. 10th grade education on an "advanced" forum or a forum that emphasizes debate. Proper grammar and spelling--use them. Some variations (such as 1337speak) have their place in small quantities--if you don't know what that place is, don't use them at all.
* Make insightful comments where you can. Be humorous and keep a quick wit. If you don't know something don't just post, look it up.
* Be willing to laugh at yourself and don't take it personally when someone flames you mildly for something that you did. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
* Don't be afraid to show your strengths, but realize you are going to get trumped eventually in your own field. When it happens accept it and learn from it.
* Make an impression, but ensure that its a positive impression

I am so ****ing pissed off right now.
<vent>
I got hit in the face with a basketball today. My glasses are bent real bad. My grandma is insisting on taking me to get them fixed. I tell her it's not a big deal since I have my contacts. My mom makes the mistake of telling my grandma that she told me to ask her to take me to the eye place but I said no. Now my grandma is all screaming at me because apparently I can't live without my glasses. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE MY GOD DAMN CONTACTS IN! I tell her this and she says "Oh I forgot. Whatever you say, goes. As long as you say not to get them fixed, that's what we do." to which I say "I don't need them right away! It's not a big deal." and she replies with something like "I forgot that you know everything."
My question is....Why is it such a big deal that I'm wearing the contacts that my mother paid for?!

LMAO lyrics...
oh i wish you could meet my girlfriend
my girlfriend who lives in canada
she couldn't be sweeter
i wish you could meet her
my girlfriend who lives in canada
her name is alberta
she lives in vancouver
she cooks like my mother
and sucks like a hoover
i email her every single day
just to make sure that everythings okay
its a pity she lives so far away
in canada
last week she was here but she had the flu
too bad cos i wanted to introduce her to you
its so sad, there wasnt a thing that she could do
but stay in bed with her legs up over her head
i wish you could meet my girlfriend
but you can't because she is in canada
i love her, i miss her, i cant wait to kiss her
so, soon i'll be off to alberta
i mean vancouver
**** her name is alberta
she lives in vancouver
shes my girlfriend
my wonderful girlfriend
who lives in canada
and i cant wait to eat her ***** again!

Colby Cut on 'Survivor: All-Stars'
Mogo Mogo's Donaldson is the latest exile
By Brill Bundy
Zap2it.com
It is with a heavy heart this recap is written, and only after a moment of silence is taken to mourn the passing of Colby Donaldson from "Survivor: All- Stars." Sure, he might not be your favorite "Survivor" ever (heck, our executive producer swears that Rob M. can scratch her blue collar itch any time), but he's ours, so allow us this self-indulgence.
Things start off on a promising note Thursday night (March 11) as Day 19 finds Jerri rubbing the Mogo Mogo tribe the wrong way.
Shii Ann and Kathy are annoyed with how she does nothing but complain. This is a bit surprising to us since, quite frankly, Jerri has appeared to be on her best behavior this time out.
Then again, sometimes your best isn't good enough.
In addition to not getting along with the other women, Jerri's former "Outback" tribe mate, Colby, has some residual resentfulness towards her as well. However, he says that he can let it roll off his back since he knows she isn't going to win the game.
For her part, Jerri knows that she's on her own, but feels that she is giving off a calm, easygoing, Zen-like vibe and being underestimated will work to her advantage.
In short order, the tribes are called together for a challenge, which at first appears to be an individual immunity challenge, but actually turns out to be a reward/immunity challenge combo with a twist.
Each of the tribes must put together a bunch of floating puzzle pieces to make a boat. They then must paddle their boat across to an island, hit a pole, send someone racing into the jungle to raise a flag and grab another oar, race back to the boat and make it back to the dock.
The winning tribe gets immunity and a day away on a luxury boat, along with a barbeque and desserts.
"And it wouldn't be a BBQ without what?" asks Jeff.
"Dr. Pepper" is what immediately pops into our mind, but it turns out the actual answer is "beer," although Jeff does one better by promising an open bar.
Whatever. If this was a real barbeque (rather than some burgers and hot dogs), nothing beats Dr. Pepper with a chopped pork sandwich.
Oh, and one other thing. The winning tribe gets to pick one member from the losing tribe to come with them and enjoy the day as well as being safe from Tribal Council.
The challenge itself drags, made all the more obvious by Jeff's long-winded play-by-play. The Mogo Mogos take an early lead and Ethan hits the beach running. Unfortunately, per usual, the soccer player can't focus when the heat is on and can't get the knots undone to release the last oar, allowing Rob M. to get back to the Chapera boat first -- although we do get a moment of imagined possibility that Rob might have hit him over the head and left him for dead.
The Chaperas win and pick Kathy to eat, drink and be merry with them.
Tom compares the ocean liner to the "fanciest house trailer you've ever seen ... afloat." Tom also doesn't particularly like the champagne that they're served because it has "too many bubbles," but it doesn't stop him from drinking it.
Rob M. (who we learn was on his high school's state championship golf team) indulges in hitting some balls into the ocean and we learn why golfers wear shoes with spikes on the bottom. It appears he's a little rusty though when he also manages to swing his club into the deep blue sea.
At first Kathy doesn't want to go along, fearing that it looks bad to her tribe. However, she quickly changes her tune when she observes that the Chaperas are actually having fun with one another and enjoying the game, unlike the suspicious Mogo Mogos. She also says that she feels that she's been welcomed with open arms and will be in a weird position when the tribes merge.
This has nothing to do with "Survivor," but during the hour we see the new Pier 1 commercial for the first time. While we've always felt that Thom is the underrated "Queer Eye" guy (!!!!!!!), the scripts for these ad spots are still bloody awful. Yet, he's a vast improvement over that big gal in the ball gown. Go Thom.
Needless to say, the Mogo Mogos are not taking their loss well. Ethan apologizes profusely for blowing it. There's much hand wringing that amounts to nothing other than time to reflect that Ethan looks much better with his hair pulled away from his face.
Jerri and Shii Ann continue to get on each other's nerves. Colby remarks that there's no difference between the two of them in his eyes and he might even dislike Shii Ann even more than his old nemesis Jerri.
Now, we don't want to sound like we're making apologies for Colby, but we have a theory that he's recently gone through some big break-up. Because he was not this big of a misogynist in Australia. However, for the entire three weeks that he's been in Panama he's been highly intolerant of the womenfolk. Just a theory. Discuss among yourselves.
No matter what the story is, Colby isn't playing the game rationally anymore or he would have seen the biggest threat immediately. Instead he's almost giddy planning Jerri's demise with Ethan, claiming he's already written the speech he's going to give when he writes down her name. He and Ethan chat with Lex who says he's right there with them.
Lex then takes Jerri for a walk and says that he feels they are on the "eve of a merge" and that he wants to get rid of Colby before he becomes an individual threat and that he wants Jerri and Shii Ann to help him accomplish this. Jerri says that her entire goal for this game was to outlast Colby so she's all for it. Shii Ann also says to count her in.
At this point Shii Ann realizes that her closest alley, Kathy, is off with the Chaperas, power players surround her and she's the swing vote. She knows that if she's going to make a move, now is the time. Yet, somehow, the obvious move of going to Ethan and Colby and telling them what's what so that the three of them can band together and get rid of Lex doesn't occur to her -- making us move her from the "can be entertaining" to the "so over" column in about three seconds.
Instead Shii Ann decides to let her distaste for "Captain America" to get the best of her, leaving Colby free for razor commercials and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" appearances. Oh, and giving us no one to root for and nothing to look forward to in the weeks to come.
Thanks a lot, Shii Ann. Come to think of it, we agree with Colby. You are more annoying than Jerri.

And seeing as how AI3 is airing just about the same time AI2 did, tryouts will probably be in October for AI4.
