I wanted to know do anyone else watch the episodes on DVD in this type of way.
What I do when I first watch a new DVD is go to TVOME and look at the episode guide so I can watch it by airdate order. I just prefer to see the actual UNCUT version of a episode the way it was seen week by week when it first Aired on ABC,NBC or CBS. Anyone else do the same?

For the most part, I watch in the order they're presented on the discs: Good Times, What's Happening, Three's Company, of course Soap etc. For the Honeymooners and Saved By The Bell, I skip around, not caring so much about proper sequence. I've never checked tvtome as I was about to start watching tv-on dvd sets.

Yeah I'm Watching the First Disc of Sanford and Son now and i'm kind of bouncing around so i can see the way NBC presented the eps to the viewing public.

I usually like to watch classic tv shows such as I Love Lucy the way they were aired in order on Nick at Nite. After all, Nick at Nite was the one responsible for introducing me to the world of classic television.

Not on all DVDs.
I know for one that on Cheers - Season 1 that its not production order.
You can tell by the different hairstyles and hair colors on certain characters.
And on the 3rd episode of the DVD, Diane makes her first order.
Yet, on the episode before, she is clearly a great waitress.
But either way.... I follow the DVD.

Interesting... I would like to watch them by production order(like some networks do, some networks air them by the order they aired too). I like to see them from the first episode to the last like that. Although, I wouldn't mind watching them the other way.
Oh, and I like to see episodes as they aired on the networks... UNCUT! I hate the editing syndication does. I can't wait for down the road to see the Family Matters and Roseanne DVD's come out, to see what was edited, plus on DVD's-NO COMMERICALS!

You can actually BUY classic commercials for something like 10 bucks.
Pop those in between scenes.... and you've got a genuine viewing of how it originally aired.

I don't mind commericals, it's just, they cut the shows from like 25 minutes to 22 minutes to make room for commericals, when they could just have 5 minutes of commericals with the unedited version. Hopefully one day, a network will come along and show a lot of classic sitcoms that way.

Yeah I know what you mean, all of N@N shows end at 21 min mark of every half Hour-LOL

LOL... I have actually added up the commerical time for each break in some shows to figure out exactly how long the actual show was. I have found it to be between 21 1/2 minutes and 23 minutes, depending on the network.

I generally just watch the episodes in order of favorites (if I've seen them before), and/or what episodes sound the funniest.

Neither. I watch it in the order the producers intended. I've written guides for several shows that weren't filmed in intended broadcast sequence. Ditto for several shows that the network screwed up the intended broadcast sequence.
Anyone ever try to watch "Frasier" in production order? "Homicide: Life on the Street" in airdate order? You'll feel like you're in a time warp!

Is Frasier's production order very different than Frasier's airdate order??

I would prefer to watch the shows in their original production order, particularly if it's a series that has a strong continuity (the original "Star Trek", for example, was shown out of its production sequence during its first season; in syndiction the shows are broadcast in their intended sequence...ditto with "The Flintstones, although its stories weren't as dependent on a smooth continuity...)
Of course, it's also interesting to compare production sequence vs. broadcast sequence, just to see how the show's rythym developed...

I'm the exact same way. That's what I did for "NewsRadio". NBC screwed up the order, but then the production order is kind of screwy too. Such as in the 2nd episode filmed, Dave and Lisa are already dating. However in the 3rd episode filmed, they first get together. However, (again) NBC showed "Our 50th Episode" as episode 48. And so I took the production order, and hours of my time, and put them in the order I feel they are best viewed for continuity sake.

I don't really feel airing the 50th episode as the 48th is the end of the world (especially considering that ABC and FOX can't count for milestones of shows that are actually hits), but they did shelve "Injury" for a rather long time. Apparently, to be spiteful, because the producers weren't recutting it to their satisfaction. Did the same thing with the condom episode of "Caroline in the City." Can't talk about penises and rubbers, ya know! One NBC show that was a complete mess on the air was "Family Ties." I don't know why Brandon Tartikoff had it out for that show like he did, but so many episodes aired so ridiculously out of order (like, two seasons after they were first made) that it's completely unwatchable in broadcast order. Hell, even "Seinfeld" had a couple episodes shown out of order. You know this is a problem when the #1 show on TV can't be aired the way it was meant to be seen.
And ABC is still sitting on a first season episode of "My Wife and Kids." With Jazz Raycole.

Go to the guide, and find out.

EDITED TO ADD: I'm sure barwars can tell us all how very many episodes of "Cheers" were shot out of order. Paramount's syndication page even points this out to buyers, regarding the latter half of the third season.

I have that, and it's of commercials from the 50's-70's so they're for nostalgic purposes. :D

Not all DVDs are production order.
I know for a fact that Cheers - Season 1 is not in production order.
I dont think its airdate order either.... but its only 1 disc that is out of order.

for airdate:
"Sam's Women"
goes before
"the coaches daughter"
and for production order there's a couple....you can basically tell by Sam's hair.
for example.
then I think the rest are in order...I'm not sure though.
Another thing they messed up with the dvd. The picture in the front is from the second season. and on the Second season cover art it's going to be a picture from the first season.... don't they have someone to look these things up for the distributers?

I prefer watching everything in production order. I don't like networks dictating what should air next, the producers have they're own intentions.

I just like to see how a sitcom was shown at the time of it's original run. Which is why I like the airdate order
