QUEEN LATIFAH plays a bad-a$$ cabbie in her upcoming action-packed movie 'Taxi,' also starring "Saturday Night Live"'s quick-witted JIMMY FALLON. Watch tonight as ET goes behind the scenes of the sure-to-amuse flick!
Latifah says that although she's never been a taxi driver, she's had plenty of life experience to help her prepare for the role. "I didn't have to do research," says the Grammy winner. "I learned how to drive in New York City and I thought if I can drive in New York, I can drive anywhere."
The Oscar-nominated Latifah plays Belle Williams, a former Big Apple bike messenger who changes careers and becomes a taxi driver -- and then gets a reputation for having lightning-quick speed. Fallon portrays Andy Washburn, a green and overeager New York City detective who happens to be the worst driver in the NYPD! Fallon's character seeks help from Latifah's Belle in his pursuit of an all-female gang of bank robbers including its ringleader -- played by Victoria's Secret model GISELE BÜNDCHEN.
"I handle the wheel and he handles the gun," says Latifah.
The actress/rapper, who first met Fallon when she hosted "Saturday Night Live" last year, says it's been one entertaining day after another working with the comic. "Me and Jimmy have so much fun that sometimes we need spankings!"
Fallon has nothing but the highest praise for his co-star. "She's so generous and such a hard worker." He adds, "It's my first big thing so I'm kind of nervous. But she's giving me great advice."
The thrill-ride is based on the 1998 French blockbuster by the same name, which became the largest grossing film in the history of French cinema and has since spawned two sequels. LUC BESSON, who wrote the original as well as 'The Fifth Element' and 'La Femme Nikita,' also produced the American version. And 'Barbershop' director TIM STORY heads the non-stop buddy comedy, which also stars Oscar-nominated ANN-MARGRET as Fallon's mother.
The movie is now filming in Los Angeles and New York and is scheduled for an October 8, 2004 release.
