When they were celebrating their 50th anniversary this summer I went to their website to check out all of their issues that started at the very beginning. You could read an article here and there. But no, I don't think they're as good as they used to be either.

Talking Trash Has Never Been This Polite
BERLIN - Fed up with garbage-strewn streets, Berlin has de-
vised a solution that it thinks might work - garbage cans
that say thank you. Beginning next spring, the city's trash
service will build electronics into some of the street-side
trash cans that will let them speak or sing to the public.
"We want to encourage people in a nice, funny way to throw
their trash in the baskets and not on the street," said the
official, Bernd Mueller. They will be installed at heavily
visited areas such as the Reichstag building. The waste-
baskets will be silent after dark, however. "Some people
might feel uncomfortable if these things said something to
them at night," Mueller said. Instead, lights around the
basket's opening will glow green. Mueller did not say how
much the talking trash cans would cost or exactly how many
baskets will be programmed.

Don't Let the Door Hit You on the Way Out
MODESTO, Calif. - A California bank robber apparently forgot
the No. 1 safety rule for wearing masks -- there simply have
to be eyeholes to be successful. Bank tellers and detectives
alike are still smiling at the image of the thief who walked
into the Oak Valley Community Bank in Modesto this week
wearing a checkered flannel cloth over his face secured by a
hat. Detective Tom Blake said the man cautiously lifted a
part of the cloth to see where he was walking, demanded mon-
ey and began his retreat. "But he forgets which side the
door hinges were on," Blake told the Modesto Bee. "He walks
into the steel door frame, bangs his head into the frame and
knocks his hat off. He backs up a bit, still holding onto
his hood, and shuffles out the door." The thief did escape,
and police are looking for a skinny man with a raspy voice,
a checkered cloth, long-sleeved pink shirt, white gardening
gloves and a goose-egg on his forehead.

trash cans that will let them speak or sing to the public.
"We want to encourage people in a nice, funny way to throw

official, Bernd Mueller. They will be installed at heavily

much the talking trash cans would cost or exactly how many
baskets will be programmed. Wunderbar!

Oh, lordy, we had one of those at a movie theater near the house. Whenever somebody put their garbage in, it might either say thank you, belch, or say in a horrible Valley Girl accent, "Eeeeeew! Like all this trash is so totally gross!" Dang thing finally wore out after a bunch of preteens kept pushing the lid, trying to get it to belch.

Thanks to Sheila for putting these together! Here are the compatibility charts for Tara and Ron, Sheila and Steve and Cathy and Richard. I'll post mine later.
Tara & Ron:
Western: Sagittarius & Cancer: The relationship between these two signs is guided and influenced by the several sun-sign patterns. The Cancerian man will hold an inexplicable fascination for this woman. She is curious by nature, so the way he keeps her guessing about his feelings and changing moods is rather exciting. Most of the time, she will behave in an unfamiliar, passive manner under the spell of the Cancerian man. Once in while, like the times when he compares her to his mother, or rebukes her for being extravagant, or accuses her of talking too much - will she lose her temper. Then she does not mince her words and says things that could deeply wound the ultra-sensitive feelings of this man. The Cancerian man has his faults but he is also sympathetic, sensitive and affectionate. He is funny and full of captivating conversation. He's loyal and earnest and he'd never try to deliberately hurt her, or break a promise if he could possibly help it. The archer girl and her crab will have to learn to blend their fire and water elements in order to achieve a harmonious relationship. In time he'll grow to intensely respect her courage, frankness and trust her because of her honesty. She will be grateful for his hand, guiding her away from all those potholes.
Eastern: Rabbit & Rooster: The Rabbit and the Rooster may have to work hard to understand one another's motivations since, as Opposite Signs in the Chinese Zodiac, their relationship may be marked by friction. The problem lies in their very different natures, which are the results of their unique perceptions of the world: The Rabbit experiences life almost completely subjectively and therefore has trouble with practicalities, details and other things mundane. The Rooster, on the other hand, sees the world almost exclusively as details that require precise work to be perfected. The Rooster might well find the Rabbit to be far too careless and the Rabbit may find the Rooster to be overly demanding and critical. The Rabbit is compassionate and understanding, however, not to mention timid, and often won't speak up even when feeling criticized.
As lovers their connection may be no more satisfying. The Rabbit tends to put more energy into relationships than do other Signs. This may not be a problem with the Rooster, who devotes all its energy to whatever new endeavor lies before it, but these two Signs have very different approaches to romance. The Rooster likes to nag -- lovers, friends and family members alike -- and considers perfection to be both necessary and attainable. The Rabbit relies on emotional support from its loved ones to help it maintain emotional equilibrium and the Rooster is certainly strong, capable of providing the Rabbit with this kind of stability. The Rooster also makes a truly loyal and loving mate, but the Rabbit may ultimately feel too henpecked, which will begin to erode its already tenuous sense of self. And whether their relationship is romantic or business-based, the Rooster is likely to tire of the Rabbit's seeming inability to be logical, practical or reasonable. In the office or at home the Rooster will naturally take the upper hand in the relationship and the Rabbit, being rather passive, will likely defer to the Rooster's rule.

Sheila & Steve:
Western: Pisces & Sagittarius: The Piscean woman we know is a good listener and the Sagittarius man enjoys talking to someone who pays rapt attention to what he's saying. This woman is powerfully perceptive and she'll discover effortlessly, things about him he thinks no one knows. It's instinctive with her to sense what the other person is holding back, especially in a love affair. This probably won't affect him either as this talent of hers is such a subtle, gentle art. Then this Sagittarius man does not mind either, as most of such men don't have a secretive bone in their bodies. Sagittarius being free and easy will find Pisces too much of a heavy load to haul around. Pisceans are very sensitive and often need space to exist in their dream world. The Piscean woman needs much gentleness from the man she loves, a whole lot of tenderness. She blooms under imaginative or creative interests, which have the power to enchant her but she falls into depression when she's subjected to harshness or tactlessness. Her feelings could be wounded before he's even aware of it happening. Though there is much here for an interesting and sincere relationship, Sagittarius man may find that the marriage to Pisces is too confining, as he happens to be intensely jealous and likes to possess his partner in entirety. This may smother the carefree archer.
Eastern: Snake & Rooster: The Snake and the Rooster make a mutually satisfying match since they share many of the same interests and values. Both have a social side -- the Snake is charming, popular and seductive and the Rooster loves going out with friends -- but both are more interested in home comforts and security. These two can make a solid connection in any type of relationship -- friends, lovers, business partners, members of the same family -- because together they create a smoothly-running and prosperous base, be that at home or in the office.
As lovers these two are well-situated for a long-term relationship and may move in together early on, not because they're impulsive -- far from it -- but because they see that living together would only enhance life for both. The Rooster has a keen eye for detail and likes to keep a spotless, comfortable and classically tasteful home. This Sign has great taste but also loves a bargain. The Snake is considered lucky with money and can be counted on by the Rooster to bring home the bacon. The Snake often tends toward jealousy and possessiveness in relationships, due to an inner sense of insecurity, but that isn't likely to be a problem in this relationship. The loyal, faithful Rooster will never give the Snake reason for suspicion.

Yeah, that's true. That's pretty much how Tara and I became friends. In her 2nd random thread, she said she felt like a dork and I replied to her. I logged on the next day to find a PM from her saying it meant a lot. From then on, we PMed back and forth to say hi. Next thing you know, we're talking all the time. We don't always think about it, but little things do mean a lot. I had talked to Tara a few times in the Barney Miller and Courtship Of Eddie Father threads and she pm'd me and invited me into the full moon post. I had already been talking to Mary and Anthony before then.

That's another time I remember. She and I decided to go over to the COEF board, then I saw you there. Also, I remember all three of us posting at the same time on the Barney Miller board. The first night you popped into her thread, we were going on about how sad it was that Bill Bixby had passed away, and that he was done wrong in the media.
When Allison first started to post with us, we were talking about our tape collections.

I had long hair too....(aka the pic of me with Vicki) but I have wavy hair, so I didn't wear it down too often due to the fact it frizzes easily if I have it down. :( Ever since I got my hair cut short for good in August, I haven't had a problem with my hair frizzing. :cheer:

The school I went to brought a couple of laptops in 1999 and they had this thing on one side of the screen where you could adjust the brightness...that's one reason I don't want a laptop, a lot of other laptops I've been on don't have that feature. :(
