with a last name like Mondello. Did they ever make reference to an Italian American background?

I don't think they ever did. I think they should have given Larry an Irish last name. He looked more Irish to me.

I've always wondered that myself, Eddie146. Mondello does sound like a name with Italian origins, but I'm sure the writers weren't thinking about nationalities much when choosing last names for the characters---sans perhaps the Varellas (remember Chuey?)
