I was re-visiting my old stomping grounds today for nostalgia's sake- VH1's messageboards. I used to go there just for the fun of bashing the boybands & "divas". Man, was that a scream. It was great to see what a big change had gone down. There was a time not too long ago when the pop music boards were stuffed with well over 200+ entries from fans & bashers & now they seem to be down to next to nothing. The only one I checked that still has lots of clowns hangin on is Britney, but I think it's because she's been kissing women & taking more & more clothes off. Not because her "music" is *so* great.
Show's where the pop/ boyband thing stands now, eh? Halleluliah!
LFO, O-Town, 98°, NSYNC, BSB, Dreamstreet, et al ...big fat "Where Are They Now?"
*waits for fan to reply "______is working on their new album!"*

They finally realized they all sounded the same and blew up. Except for Justin Timberlake who survived the explosion just lost his mind, and will spend the rest of his life thinking he's Michael Jackson.

My friend is still obsessed with Nick Carter from BSB. She has a birthday party for him every year.
Some things never change.

Omg. A birthday party? Ask her if Nick Carter throws her a birthday party every year... Then quietly hand her a Led Zeppelin cd.

not "defending" them, but I wouldn't totally put N'Sync or 98 in there. Justin is still one of the most overexposed music stars around, and Nick "came back" by doing that really cheesy tv show with his dimwit wife

well, in her defense, it at least proves that she is a TRUE fan, and not someone who liked them to follow the crowd.
I will not proclaim myself to be a fan of someone until I am sure I will still listen to them in 5 years. Just look at how embarassed last years Avril fans are now this years Hilary Duff fans. IMO, a true fan still likes them long after they drop off the chart. I know people who still love Hanson and Spice Girls. Which is the way it should be. If you're truly a "fan", you'll still support them long after they drop off the charts.

Thaaaank youuuu. None of the acts I mentioned in my original post can hold a candle to them....& neither can The Spice Girls or Hanson.

LFO: Did they ever hit big?... All they had was "Summer Girls," and the ultra-cheesy, "Girl on TV," which wasn't even a hit. Their sophomore records just went nowhere... LITERALLY.
O-Town: After their first performace on Miss U.S.A., everything went downhill. With their debut, they pulled of two modest hits, the disgusting, "Liquid Dreams," and the-it's-too-good-for-us, "All Or Nothing." They released a highly promoted sophomore album, O2, which debuted on the Top 10, and quickly floundered.
They also spunned-off the Making The Band reject band, LMNT. There was also a new season of Making The Band on MTV with P.Diddy.
98°: Nick Lachey is releasing a new album, SoulO, this November. Fellow Degree, Jeff, is working on a solo album as well. Whenever asked, bandmembers claim that a new album from 98 should be expected around 2004- early 2005.
Nick also has a very successful show on MTV, with his wife, Jessica Simpson. Ratings are doing great.
NSYNC: I really don't think they are over yet. All of thier albums have been equally successful, and in all honesty- their last album was quite good, and unique. I don't doubt that they will release one last group album, but it won't be as successful, because many prefer Justin as a solo act.
After the group break...
-Justin released a solo album, which went 3x platinum, and also had a successful tour in the U.S., and Europe with fellow mouseketeer, Christina Aguilera. As a solo artist, he has 4 hit singles, and has gained the respect of many other fellow musicians.
-JC helped produce music for the movie, Drumline with Dallas Austin. He also released a Top-40 single, "She's Blowing Up With Her Love." He is currently working on the final stages of his debut solo album. He was going to release it this November, but maybe he got intimidated because Britney Spears, Pink, and other big-acts are releasing albums that month also.
-Lance Bass joined some space program, and still trying to go to space. He's doing a bunch of fund-raisers.
-Joey Fatone has been enjoying the simple life, by getting fatter and chasing Celebrities Uncensored to get his picture taken.
-Chris, I have no idea.
Backstreet Boys: They are currently enjoying their lives as late-30 year olds, nearing their 40s. After their break, the youngest, Nick Carter released a solo album the same day Christina released Stripped. His album was slammed by the critics and drowned by Christina, and Justin's overwhelming new-found mature success.
He released on single, "Help Me" which became an MTV hit, but not a radio one. The record company did not give a pass on a new video, so they just released a radio single, "Do I Have to Cry For You?," which when nowhere, but JoJo's Top 9 at 9 here in L.A.
The rest of BSB'ers invaded daytime TV by appearing on John Edwards, and other talk shows. Individually, many of them did "surprise" appearances on TRL. Ackwardly, there are no more girls crying, and having seizures.
Dreamstreet: who the hell is this?

LOL... I actually feel bad for ever bashing Hanson. Compared to alot of the crap right now, they have lots of talent.

The boyband crap is finally over thank God. Record labels just keep feeding that "they are going to make a new album" crap to what fans are left so people will go buy the main star of the "groups" solo albums. Funny they are always on the same label.

you know, as much as I dreaded teen pop back in 1999-2000, give me those days over the hip hop dominated 2002-2003 ANY DAY
