The whole last season was worthless. In the series finale, Darlene and David are bringing the new baby home, and Roseanne starts to look back at each of them and remember, then as it turns out, the whole show was a fantasy and Dan really died after having a heart attack at Darlene's wedding. You really have to watch it to halfway figure it out.

The way it was explained was that the entire series was part of a book that Roseanne's character had written about her life. In the book, she altered all sorts of details from what her "real life" was like. The final scene of the series is her explaining these alterations to the audience.

In other words, I didn't get it either...

There are a lot of people that don't quite understand the finale. Fortunately, for me, I understood it. It's really not all that confusing if you stop to think about it. Let me see if I can try to explain this. Basically, the whole entire show was all just a story that Roseanne wrote. All the character's that we see in the show are all real people in Roseanne's life, but instead of showing us Roseanne's real day to day life, they show us the life that Roseanne always dreamed of. Let me try to make myself more clear. For example, in the show, Becky meets Mark and they eventually marry, and Darlene meets David and they eventually marry, but in reality, Becky really met and married David and Darlene really met and married Mark, but because Roseanne felt that David was more compatible with Darlene and felt that Mark was more compatible with Becky, she switched thier roles. Basically, as I said before, the whole Roseanne series is all just a book/story. Roseanne is the creator/narrator of everything that happens in the show. In Roseanne'e real life, David marries Becky, Darlene marries Mark and they have a baby, Jackie is really gay, and Dan really had a heart attack and died. Dan's death is what makes the finale so sad and emotional, because in the episode "The Wedding" when Dan has a heart attack at Darlene's wedding, we discover that in reality, Dan never really survived the heart attack. Everything we have seen since the show began is all just a book that Roseanne wrote. The last season, season nine, was all just a fantasy. Roseanne never really won the lottery and Dan was no longer alive at that point. Roseanne just fantasized that she really did win the lottery and that Dan was still alive. Basically what I am trying to say is that the show wasn't Roseanne's real life, it was just Roseanne's imagination. Hope this helps.

Also, if you notice, in the last half of the finale we see the family gathered around the table eating dinner as the camera moves aroud the table. This was kinda comical because this scene is exactly what we see in the opening credits from the previous seasons when they present the cast members names.

Though the finale may have been confusing for some, I found the the finale to be one of the most creative finale's I have ever seen. I love this show.
