View Full Version : Holy Breaking News Batfans! We've Got A New Batman!
BREAKING NEWS: Variety reports that Christian Bale, star of American Psycho and Laurel Canyon, has been tapped to play Batman in Christopher Nolan's reworking of the Caped Crusader saga, set for a 2005 release; the official announcement came Wednesday afternoon from Warner Bros. Bale bested a slew of hot young actors for the part, most notably Jake Gyllenhaal, Joshua Jackson, Cillian Murphy, and Eion Bailey, all of whom also tested for the role of the comic book hero. Nolan, best known for the indie thriller Memento, is slated to direct the film (currently known as Batman 5) early next year from a script by David Goyer, writer of the Blade films. --Prepared by IMDb staff
Thank God they picked someone who can act!

I'd have gone with Eion Bailey.
Besides having the right look and being a solid actor, he is fairly well unknown which would really suit the role, maybe even give the franchise a clean slate free of big name non-sense and meandering egofests.

crap, double post
Bale would have been my second choice.
He is fairly well unknown also but it may be hard for me to get American Psycho out of my head watching him as Batman.
Just hope they keep "Hip to be Square" out of the soundtrack.

With all the rumored storylines floating around the past few years, it's hard to say.
I think the Scarecrow will be the villian.

How about Howard Stern as the Scarecrow?

I suppose if you want to go a VERY different way, Jake Gyllenhall may have been a good batman-he doesn't really look like batman, but he's a great actor, and who says batman always needs to look like what he usually does-which is what Bale looks like. Bale is a good actor-he's british though isn't he-some people may be against that. But Gyllenhall needs a big movie vehicle to get him way more roles (also-he looks alot like tobey maguire-he also happens to date Kirsten Dunst)- his relationship with Dunst doesn't get much publicity (I only knew they were dating a few weeks ago). Hopefully if he becomes a BIG actor her won't do crappy roles-but so far his Donnie Darko (great movie) and Good Girl (good movie) character's have been terribly similar.

Stern talked about that on his show a while back. He would love to be considered for the part, but Warner Bros. isn't exactly breaking down any doors to get him.
I heard that Christopher Lloyd took a few meetings with some WB execs a few months ago. He still may be a front runner.

I read about this over on imdb last night, and was very happy to find out that Christian Bale is taking over as Batman! I think he'll do very well.

Brian, if you want to choose someone from the music industry that is truly a nightmare, go for the king.

Yes I think he could pull it off! He has super human possibilities! Also he would bring a little humor to the character which I think would be great!:D

What's wrong with Michael Keaton! Why couldn't he play Batman again. I thought he was the best Batman of all time! Batman and Batman Returns were great. After Keaton and director Tim Burton left, it was really bad.

He's too old for the part now, they need a younger actor to continue the franchise.
A rumor I read today is Dennis Quaid is up for the role of Commish Gordon.
OMG, I just read this out of curiosity - but CHRISTIAN BALE??? I'm so in love with him  (Yes, I'm of the Laurie from "Little Women" generation). Now I'm gonna have to see it ;)
