Look out, J. Lo, Janet and Tina Yothers — there's another actress about to launch a singing career. Brittany Murphy says she's hitting the studio this fall.

"I am going to start recording an album in November," she revealed, although

the chatty "Just Married" star was uncharacteristically tight-lipped about what her music will sound like. "Hey, 'Yo, yo,' you know, I have been around the '8 Mile' environment," she joked, adding more seriously, "you'll see [what kind of music it is]. It's going to be a surprise."

Murphy has already recorded a version of the Carly Simon hit "Nobody Does It Better" for "Little Black Book," an upcoming romantic comedy for which she'll pull in a reported $4 million (see "Brittany Murphy To Be Snoopy In Upcoming Film"), her biggest payday to date. The 25-year-old actress was paid just over $1 million for "Uptown Girls," which arrives in theaters this week.

"I actually wasn't intending on making a picture this summer," she explained. " 'Little Black Book,' I really didn't ever expect to make that picture. It was a meeting. Then we did another meeting. I was able to give some notes and three days later it was a completely different script than the one I had originally read. And it was unbelievable.

"It's kind of like 'Broadcast News' meets 'My Best Friends' Wedding,' if that makes any sense," she added.

Murphy will play a daytime talk show producer who digs up dirt on her boyfriend's ex-girlfriends after sneaking into his Palm Pilot. "I actually don't even know how to work a two-way," she said, laughing. "But I'm being delivered a Palm Pilot the week before filming. And I'm going to start trying to figure out how you actually work a Palm Pilot."

"Little Black Book" starts shooting later this month with a cast that also includes Kathy Bates ("About Schmidt"), Julianne Nicholson ("Ally McBeal"), Holly Hunter (who, incidentally, was in "Broadcast News") and Ron Livingston, best known for his starring role in "Beavis and Butt-Head" creator Mike Judge's cult-classic "Office Space."

"The cast is incredible — 'Office Space,' Mike Judge, baby!" Murphy proclaimed. "I feel like everything comes in threes. I remember Nicolas Cage talking about his 'sunshine trio.' ... This sort of life path moviewise, careerwise, over the past year. 'Little Black Book' sort of caps it up in a perfect way."

Murphy's "Little Black Book" is scheduled for release sometime next year. There is currently no title, release date or record label lined up for her album, according to her management.

I guess success is guaranteed in music if your name is Brittany, Britney, or some variation thereof.

Except not necessarily Britney Fox.

God i hope not. I can't even stand her as an actress. The music world will just die if she becomes a singer.

TOO LATE...she is going to have an album....and how can you say the music world will die when you don't even know how she sounds? remarks like that are plain ignorant! I don't know how she will sound but if she sucks, she just will...but how will the music world die. Avril Lavigne and Hilary Duff sing and the music world hasnt died yet has it lol?

Does this mean she's going to shorten her name like J-Lo?

I can see her driving around in a BMW in her videos.

I've heard her sing on some show can't remember what, but she has a lovely voice. I love Brittany so I'm looking forward to her album and I don't care what other people or critics think about it. I go by my own judgement if someone rocks or sucks.
