THESE SHOWS ARE A BUNCH OF BULL!!!!!! Since when is eating Horse Rectum Reality??? That is seen on an episode of Fear Factor and they call that reality? I mean when will you see someone having rectum for dinner? Since when is having 50 girls compete for your love cuz they think your rich reality? The Real World is the closest thing to Reality TV you'll get! This stuff isnt reality! Its stupidity!:soapbox:

I think reality tv was a good concept in the beginning (i.e. The Real World) but now some of the concepts they come up with are just annoying. People are getting too desperate to come up with an original concept for a reality tv show, but I guess the same goes for sitcoms as well.

I think reality shows suck! The only ones i'll watch are the original "real world" and "road rules" but the rest like "Joe Millionare" or whatever I refuse to watch..... puke:

Yes, exactly. Crap like joe millionaire amnd for love or money are just stupid. Reality TV is The Real World. Networks should stick to stuff like that.

The sad part is the name "Reality TV" has been given.

Now how is seven rich kids living in Las Vegas with no bills to pay reality?

How is five gay men giving one really clueless straight man help on clothes reality?

How is 80,000+ people waiting outside a few buildings to become an "American Idol" reality?

How is some random guy picking a few women to be his wife out of 5 months (?) reality?

The concepts and names are silly, but it makes good TV I guess.

because it is.. its not scripted. duh.

I personally think some of the reality shows are not that great, but i dont go MAKING A FRIGGIN THREAD ABOUT IT!

U use the word friggin alot. The news is unscripted and they dont call that reality. Reality TV should be real. Or else dont call it that.

It isn't reality at all and it is scripted. If the show never existed would people be standing outside the building wanting to become a star?

No.

So, you're wrong.

David

It isn't reality at all and it is scripted.

so you're saying that American Idol is rigged, and that voting doenst matter, and its all acted out?

If the show never existed would people be standing outside the building wanting to become a star?

I dont really get what ur saying here. Well, if the show never existed, people who want to become stars will most likely audition. i dont know why the standing outside a building point is such a biggy here. So they stand outside a building? So what?

okay, so what point are u trying to make? That reality shows suck, or that they shouldnt call it reality tv?

David
08-03-2003, 09:13 PM
and I never said American Idol was reality TV. But just because it isnt reality, doesnt mean its a bad show

David

Let me answer both of those questions in one paragraph:

It could be rigged. None of us know for sure and the point is that some random person making it big in two months without any training in the industry isn't necessarily "reality". It's TV and as we all know, most of what we see on TV is fake. It's like how the producers of Real World set certain "little" things up to spice up the show. Understand? And standing outside the building doesn't matter. You missed another point. The point was that most of those people auditioning would've never become small stars without that show (Kimberly, Ricky, Carmen and etc.). A good example is Clay Aiken. He should be using his horrible voice in some broadway play. Instead he's selling millions of records. The reality is that without none of these shows on the air, the plot, people involved and the outcome wouldn't be a reality.

See?

I feel as if I've explained myself enough, but the two of us arguing isn't getting any of us anywhere. Your opinion is right for you, and mine is right for me.

David

Okay, we should stop arguing. Sorry for arguing anyways

The only "reality" show I could even begin to respect was Boot Camp. It was simply a bunch of civilians getting their asses wooped through hard work and having to think under duress. And the drill sergeants wouldn't allow any real "cliques" to develop, nor did they allow any hanky panky to go on just to boost ratings like in the rest of these "reality" shows!
And that's the only one they didn't bring back(well, they did try a celebrity boot camp but that was crap). I think that might be a clue as to the mentality of the American reality tv viewer.

I LOVE reality tv and I think they haven't quite gone overboard the edge just yet. I really don't can't if these type of shows are scripted or not because as long as they entertain me than I'm happy. Besides, nothing is good on anymore except what they have of reality tv. Almost of the sitcoms have gone downhill, IMO,
and the dramas don't look at least bit interesting.

My favorite reality-tv programs are:
Survivor, Big Brother, Elimidate, Meet My Folks, For Love or For Money, and Fear Factor.

Hey pumkinpie if you want to rant start with your boy misquoting the Bible - or you misquoted him? Feel no man? having Tupac as an idol discounts your opinion by about 95%.

Survivor is pretty good - but those idol and who wants to be a star shows are pretty weak.

 I may have responded to this post earlier, but I don't see the point in coming to the "reality'' boards, if you do not like reality tv. Its a contradiction. Nevertheless you did, and now you are trying to start an argument by saying that 'reality tv sux.' You know most people that come to the board like reality tv. If you don't, why don't you get lost, and stay off of the boards. It makes NO sense to me. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, STAY AWAY FROM IT! SIMPLE AS THAT!

The only reality show that ran on GSN on weekends was "Chuck Woolery's Naturally Stoned". I don't like reality shows. I'm sticking with some old shows. "Naturally Stoned" was a disapointed series starring Chuck Woolery from "Scrabble", "Love Connection", the original "Wheel of Fortune", "Greed" and "Lingo".

Reality shows are stupid period & every single last one of them shows should be taken off tv. The Real World is the only show i like. I don't watch American Idol anymore after my girl Tamrya Gray lost last yr. She should've won the whole thing. That girl can sing. Justin & Kelly are a joke & Kelly shouldn't have won.

I would watch reruns of old shows or watch the new comedy shows that are on UPN. UPN & Fox networks are the only stations i watch. I watch BET a lot & i like the E channel but believe me if there was nothin on tv to watch, i'd find something to do. Basketball & football games will keep me occupied if nothin is on tv.

I can't turn on my tv without seeing an advertisement for a reality show. I remember the only reality show we had was the news. We already have too much drama in the world,we don't need it televised into a TV show. Anyone out there who still likes these type of shows,I feel sorry for you.
