Okay, I've been having this problem for weeks now and I have no idea how to fix it. Whenever I try to save a picture from a website, my computer only lets me save it as BMP, no matter what it is. Now I wouldn't really mind for still images, because I could just copy and paste them into photoshop and save them there, but then there's animations.

My computer is pretty new, I got it about a month ago. It's XP. The picture saving worked fine before, I don't exactly remember when it changed, but now it's really getting annoying.

Please somebody, help. :crying:

See, I'll use this as an example. It's a picture of Shane I wanted to save, and look what came up...

Eh, I hate when that happens. Just keep refreshing until it comes up as the format it is originally. Or try saving it with the extension it really is. When it comes up type in 'whatever.jpg' or whatever it is. Does that make sense?

you must have AOL... do this:

go to:

Settings
Preferences
Internet Properties (WWW)
Web Graphics

and then click "Never Compress Graphics." You might need to delete your temporary internet files.

Didn't work. I tried refreshing and it's still the same. And I typed in .jpg, and it actually came up as a jpg, but its the size of a bmp. Thanks anyway.

Nope, I don't have AOL, but there's probably some way to do that in internet explorer in internet options or something. I just don't know how, thanks anyway though.

Aww, it works for me and I have XP too. That always happens to me. Sorry, it didn't work for you.

I'm sorry to hear that. :( My computer uses Windows ME and I can save web pages either with a .GIF or .BMP extension. I usually save it as a .GIF to reduce file size and keep most of the colors on the saved web page.

Try ACDSee - it's an image viewing program and I've been able to save .bmp files as .jpgs there...it's one of those free to try, buy if you like it programs.

www.oldversion.com - this should have ACDSee there, just get the latest old version they have.

I know what causes this, your internet cache is full. You need to empty it. This will let you save images in their proper format (like .gif or .jpg for example).

Go to the Control Panel, Internet Options, and then delete your temporary internet files.

You can also go to Settings and reduce or increase the amount of space for your temporary files.

You could always just rename the file as a .jpg or .gif file also.

whenever i come across this problem i fo this:

If you have Photoshop or any image software

right click on the pic you want to save

edit - paste it into photoshop

file - save as a JPEG

and thats it!

 That was the problem! I deleted my temporary internet files and now I can save pics all over again. TJ, you are a genius. Thanks so much! What would I ever do without these boards? :notworthy :yourock: :notworthy:

My old computer has a similar problem, and it still hasn't been fixed yet, lol. However, the problem does not regard IE, but rather with PAINT.

I'm unable to save pictures in the JPEG format. I've tried typing ".jpeg" and ".jpg" at the end of the file name, but the computer reads it as an invalid file when I try to open it again. I've also noticed that the "Jpeg/Jpg" option has been deleted from the drop down menu.

So, finally I downloaded a BMP/JPEG converter from download.com.

BTW, this was right after my first ad-aware scan, in which case someone told me it probably has nothing to do with the scan, but yeah, lol...

My computer had a problem like that too, I did 'disk cleanup' and it magically went back to normal.
