What are the movies that you have seen that just make you reach for the tissues? Sometimes I just want to watch a movie and cry. One of those would be:
Steel Magnolias

I have never cried at a film- I'm not really a crying person- but two films, only two films ever made me well up, eyes water- but no bawling eyes out and crying- the two films were-
The Green Mile just after Del's mouse is killed, (sometimes still well up with this scene) And
Dead Man Walking (just saw this last week) when Susan Sarandon's character is singing the hymn to Sean Penn's character.
I never well up in those films like My Girl or Now and Then, none of those 'Friend's Forever' kinda films that have tragedy in them. Some other films I just feel real sad watching them, I couldn't really name them though- films mainly with animal cruelty or really evil bullying in it.

I absolutely love the Anne of Green Gables movies. I really enjoyed the first two movies in the series. The third one they made around 99 was okay, but it still made me cry.

Many people must be easily moved by a movie. Sure- many films are sad at parts- but you'd really have to be dissecting the film and thinking out what has just happened to be moved a little- and I would think you'd already have to be depressed for a film to drive you to cry. I can't imagine crying at Free Willy or Shop around the corner or any disney films- maybe it's just me. I don't get to into the film- cos I can see what's off the screen too, and what'd around me. Anyone else seen Dead Man Walking. I think I'll buy that film now.

it's called being tender hearted... There is nothing wrong with crying at a movie. Movies move you especally when you really get into the movie or can personally relate with the characters... Maybe you have a heart of stone? Next time you go to the wizard of oz ask him for a
webuster
06-06-2003, 03:56 PM
I don't have a heart of stone- I'm just one person doesn't cry too much, I don't put on a brave front, or do that whole hard man 'a guy never crys' I just don't really understand somethings- some people have phobias that seem funny too- like fear of buttons or fear of the color blue- everyone's different in what presses emotional buttons. I thought I was silly for feeling choked and welling up at a film- thank god I'm not alone in it all. I just remembered- I watched the film Castaway a few times- I always feel very bad and eyes water in the scene where he loses the ball Wilson- it was like a friend animal or companion that the guy loved in the film and he lost it- it was very sad.

doesn't everyone have a soft side? Everyone's affected in different ways by a film. Jeter- the guy playing Delacroix in green mile, though now dead (R.I.P) he should have won the oscar for that role- it was a powerful gifted performance.

I dont cry at movies, im not an emotional person but one movie almost made me cry...i got a lump in my throat.....and it was A Cry For Help: The Tracey Thurman Story. I mean, it really got me thinking. Tracey loved Buck, she had sex with him(and i just have a feeling that he was her 1st-dont ask me why i just think that), had his child and she gave him too many chances and he abused them all. Then he goes and trys to kill her (thank God he wasnt successful) (the one you love trying to kill you, God damn, what a tough break). I mean, that will have an effect on anyone, I dont care who you are. This movie is very sad but the end is great-when she wins!!!!

I was just reminded their about Of Mice and Men- during the part where they took the dog. I genreally don't cry after watching the whole story, looking back and thinking 'that's really sad' It's only a specific scene, like the mouse getting squished in the green mile- I don't think back or anything- i guess that's why I wasn't affected by the film Beaches (which is one of the only few weepie, friends forever depressing films I've watched alot- I think it's good). Patch Adams- TheNothingMan I'm gonna make 2 guesses about which parts affected you (I can't remember the whole film, though I watched it alot)- either, the woman in the spaghetti or the guy that's dying, who is joking about death eventually, but then dies. I personally felt real happy watching that film, everything was positive, especially in the scene of the old lady in spaghetti.

In Of Mice and Men- what about the part where George shoots Lenny? I have to fight the tears from flowing during that part. John Malcovich plays that part so well and you can just feel the pain that Gary Sinise's character is going through. It's very emotional.
And in Patch Adams- I cry more joyfully at the end. Just knowing all the people he's touched and how he changed the doctor- patient relationship.
I forgot one too- I cried at the end of About Schmidt. It's a funny movie- but that last scene when Jack Nicholson is sitting there crying- I just can't help thinking of how empty his life is- his wife is dead, his daughter is married off, and he has no job. The only thing he has is Ndugu.
Oh cripes- i forgot another one- TIGERLAND. What happened to Bozz? You don't know- he may have died- that would be sad if he was dead 'cause he wsa such a cool guy.
And what about Magnolia? When Tom Cruise realizes how much he loves his father- after his dad is dying. Tom starts crying and I do too. And when it's raining frogs and you hear Aimee Mann singing that gets me every time.
There are really a lot of emotional movies out there

I am a sucker for the weepers.
The Color Purple--When Shug & her father reconcile, then right after that Spielberg hits you again with the reuniting Celie & Nettie after so many years.
Wizard of Oz--Ever since I was a kid, I cry at the part when Dorothy is saying good-bye to Tinman, Lion, & Scarecrow. Tinman says "I must have a heart because it's breaking" and when Dorothy tells Scarecrow "I think I'll miss you most of all."
E.T.--I know the alien is not real, but at the end when E.T. touches his heart and says Ouch to Elliot, and Elliot touches his heart and says Ouch back to him. Even now it still gets to me.
Gone With The Wind--when Bonnie dies, and Mammy is talking to Melanie about Rhett & Scarlett fighting, and Rhett is so distraught over Bonnie's death. It really is a sad scene.

I was just thinking about this thread and thinking of movies I've seen since.
I watched 'Stella'- the Bette Midler version, on Christmas Eve- and the scene where no one comes to the Sweet 16 party really got me choked up. Then, when Stella is sitting in her chair in Florida and these two girls are making fun of her. That film's just so sad- it used to be in my video store, but I couldn't find it last time. I haven't seen the original though.
The Hours- I can't remember if I said this- but the scene with Laura Brown leaving her kid and driving away in the car, and the scene with the dying bird.
I completely forgot about the Rocky Movies! I watched Rocky from I was like 6- the only one I can still really remember (the rest are so similar) is the one where Rocky's coach died- Ihaven't seen it in a while- but when he dies- it's just so sad.
So-anyone else got any films to add to the list?

Big Fish.
Holy crap...I just saw this at the movies tonight. I had a friend with me, so when the end came, I tried really really hard not to cry and embarrass myself! :o At times I had to look away from the screen so I wouldn't start the water works.
The end was tremendously sad, not because Eddie dies (because you know that's gonna happen), but because of how his son finally understands him. :crying: Oh, God...here we go...don't get me started on this movie...

No movie in my adult life has ever made me cry. Somehow I make too much of a distinction when I see movies knowing that it is all fictitious. and therefore I never get emotional watching them. In fact when I saw "PHILADELPHIA" I could recall cracking up at certain parts I found funny that were real dramatic which had a few people yelling at me to grow up between sobs. Titanic had the same effect on me.
But the one movie that made me cry was "Snoopy Come Home". I remember being 7 years old or so and my mom took me to see it. I was unconsolable after it was over. I felt so bad for Charlie Brown.

Yeah, Beaches is very sad. Though, she doesn't die at that point. She's taken to the hospital after she collapses. I find it really sad after the funeral when her daughter is on the bed crying and C.C. asks if she wants to live with her.
