Aniston and Pitt To Revive 'The Chocolate Factory'

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt are bringing a new version of Roald Dahl's classic novel Charlie And The Chocolate Factory to movie screens. The Hollywood couple will serve as producers of the Warner Bros. film through their company Plan B - the newly formed partnership of Aniston, Pitt, Brad Grey and Michael Siegel, who manages the interests of the Dahl estate. Meanwhile, Planet Of The Apes director Tim Burton is in talks to helm the production. Although the film-maker has yet to sign a deal, the Dahl estate has already approved Burton as the director they wanted most. In the next few days, he will meet with the family in London, where he's putting the finishing touches to the movie Big Fish. Signing Burton will cap a long campaign to get the film under way with the blessing of the Dahl estate, which was reluctant to make a deal because the author didn't like the first screen adaptation - 1971's Gene Wilder flick Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory.

Ugh, I really almost barfed when I read this. I think the first Willy Wonka movie was a classic. It's one of my fave movies. Why do they keep remaking stuff? Just think harder and come up with your own ideas, imo. Opinions?

It sounds pretty stupid to me. There is nothing at all wrong with the original. Why does Hollywood feel they need to remake it?

I was thinking about this today instead of actually working, but if I had to choose a director to helm a remake of "Chocolate Factory," I would choose Tim Burton. He certainly has the credentials.
Now if he can only Get Johnny Depp to star in it.
Anyone know if he can sing?

What other actors would you folks suggest?

I think the actors in the first film couldn't have been any better. However- there are some parts in the book that really should not have been screwed around with- that's probably why the author was upset. now- if they directed the sequel that'd be something I want to see- I've read the first book as much as the second one 'Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator'

I don't think I've ever read 'Charlie and The Great Glass Elevator'. Okay, that's never been done before. Why don't they do that one? Leave the original alone. Do the sequel. I wouldn't mind a sequel as much as retooling the first one up. As much as I like the first one, I'm gonna do some comparing between this new flick and the old one. If they did the sequel, I wouldn't be able to compare it to any other movie. I'd rather them leave it alone, but if it was a choice between retooling the first or doing a sequel, I'd choose the sequel. jmo

I still have the sequel book- though it's been a few years, so I can't exactly remember everything. However- Charlie and Wonka and family go to a hotel in space, and the vicious knids are there, they are actually snake type shape-shifters, and the spell out some words. Also- charlies grandparents take a sweet or something and they grow to be like 300 years old, some other stuff happens and they move into the chocolate factory. It's pretty good. A few years ago sure it was said Burton was gonna do this and he was going to do a sinister surreal version with Marilyn Manson. Burtons sinister side of films- The Nightmare Before Christmas are very well done and well written- but it'd be a crime to do that to willy wonka. Also- the first film made wonka out to be evil in some parts- and crazy more than eccentric. I cna't remember i the final scene about wonka nt giving charlie the prize is even in the book. I'd rather see a sequel- but don't mind if it's remade.
- Michael Jackson will probably audition- I've always thought he'd make a good actor, it's jsut there are few roles he could be suited too with his looks and voice- and more people would think he's acting as himself instead of the character. Any ideas who'd be in a remake?

Remakes are never as good as the originals, especially if the originals were classics.

I would actually give this a chance. Yeah the first one was a classic and won't be as good but ill give it a chance. I hope its like nothing like the first one though. Mike Myers should be in it. I could just easily picture him in this.

I think Kathy Bates and Danny DeVito would be perfect as veruca salts parents (in the book both her parents attend. Also- I think to please the dahl family- because the author wasn't happy- they shouldn't use the music from the first one, which iosn't in the book- just use the poems wrote by the author in the story as songs. That kid from 'The Kid' may do a good augustus gloop, and the rest of the kids should be left to discovering new unknown child actors. Tokien- writer of Lord of the rings- his family hate every form that Tolkiens books were turned into- I think they're classic british snobs- they said something about all media now being low levey entertianment- probaqbly angry cos they didn't think to do a movie or a $3 Million dollar stage musical (which I think will be crap- and I kinda hope it's never adapted to film). Also- Willy Wonka and the whole testing the kids,slugworth- not giving charlie the prize portrays him as kinda cruel- it doesn't in the book. And they left out the square sweets which look round- I read that chapter last week and the squirrels (instead of geese it were squirells) and laughed alot.
