Yeah, I figured that with the Dixie Chicks brouhaha, for Bravesfan to rag on Bruce for supporting them for being a "Dixie Chicks Lover," I thought maybe we should start calling any fans of The Boss a bunch of Bruce-lovers. Guilty by association, you know?

Yeah i like Bruce Springsteen. I like his album Born In The USA. That's the only one i've heard by him. I didn't really care to hear his other albums cause i'm not really a fan of rock & roll. I liked his songs on that album Born In The USA, Glory Days, I'm On Fire, Dancing In The Dark. The early 80's was my decade & this was a good album in the early 80's. I also like Billy Joel's An Innocent Man album. I got that album. I haven't listened to it in a long time but i love his songs Uptown Girl, The Longest Time, Tell Her About It, Keeping The Faith. The radio station at my job always plays Uptown Girl, The Longest Time, Leave A Tender Moment Alone, Keeping The Faith, Tell Her About It. I also like his songs Modern Woman on the Ruthless People soundtrack & Just The Way You Are.

Bruce is alright, and smart too. What better a way to get some exposure, than to buddy up with the Chicks in their time of controversy.

You don't think what Natalie said was contraversial?
I am a Bruce fan.
I'm not as hardcore as some of my friends, but I do enjoy his music.
I saw him and the E Street Band in concert late last year, and I loved the show.

So why are the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen being vilified and demonized for expressing opposing views?

So the sad thing about our society is that we'll vilify and demonize those who express an opposing point of view. So it IS in fact sad that the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen can't be allowed to express their opinions. Why do we vilify and demonize? Because we can't handle criticism? Because we are secretly afraid they may be right and/or have a legitimate point?
In this country, do we only have the freedom to express the MAJORITY opinion? Where's the minority opinion? Who knows, who cares, it's the minority, they're not significant.
Everyone, everywhere needs to do themselves a favor and pick up "Nebraska." Now.

I heard that album years ago. It was actually very different, I liked it, but I was kinda disappointed at first that it wasn't rah-rah rawking like "Born to Run" or "Born in the U.S.A." I need to hear that album again, it was great to hear stripped down Bruce. He decided to just sing and play acoustic guitar, and he did it very well. No E Street Band or anything, just Bruce solo.
This brouhaha over Bruce being "less than patriotic" over supporting the Dixie Chicks reminds me of the thing 13 years ago when some conservative politico involved in the 2 Live Crew debacle got down on Bruce for allowing Luther Campbell the use of the song "Born in the U.S.A." on an album. This bigwig was complaining that allowing those foul-mouthed guys to use the song, because it "went against his pro-family image...all these people in this country who sang his songs would be so devastated to learn you had given your endorsement to musical pornographers..." I've never heard of Bruce doing political favors for right-wingers who co-opt his image or songs.
This deal with DC is no different.
I like Bruce. The guy is a ball of fire. You want to see a show, go see Bruce. He gives every ounce and doesn't act like he's doing you a f'ing favor. He's as glad to be there as you are.
About the speaking up for the Chicks: it just seems to me that this whole rag on the Chicks thing, and now on Bruce thing, is an example of lambs being lead to slaughter. I cannot believe that regular everyday people would get so gd'md po'd about such an insignificant little statement without the in-your-face prompting of a mega watt radio conglomerate with an agenda. I really feel bad for people who are unable to think for themselves. I wonder how many American soldiers died in Iraq because of the Dixie Chicks. Give us a break from this insanity! Please!

Bandito, at least we are in the majority on this one about the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen. I WAS a fan of the Dixie Chicks until Natalie shot off her big mouth in England that she was ashamed of the President and that she was from the same state as she was(Texas). But NO LONGER!!! I also WAS a fan of Bruce Springsteen and his songs until he pulled a charlatan and went over to the other side to the Dixie Chicks. And I was blasted on here for that. And I am also a Christian and I would not, repeat, would not have a nude magazine of anything much less The Dixie Chicks posing nude in what is supposed to be a family friendly magazine like Entertainment Weekly!!! That type of stuff should be on Playboy or Hustler and even Penthouse.
Just My Opinion!!!

Bandito, You Rock!!! Not that being in the majority is important but, frankly, you're not in the majority critisizing Bruce or the Chicks. And could you explain what you mean by saying that Bruce "pulled a charlatan"? Have you ever read his lyrics to his song "Born in the USA? Do you know what he's telling you? Are the Dixie Chicks suffering a lack of concert goers or CD sales since you decided that they -- heaven forbid -- are pretty women who posed naked (although covered)?

Kitt,I am a big country music fan,and I like all artists in the genre, except for the DC's and also I do like some rock acts, The Eagles, The Dave Matthews Band, Weezer, Mighty Mighty Bosstones,Hootie and the Blowfish and Phish. I thought that this was a board that you could talk about what was on your mind. I guess the majority rules on this board of where you all stand on this. So I will keep my opinions to myself and find myself another topic to post on.
One other thing: Bush won this war for us,but he needs to get this economy back into shape.
Just My Opinion!!!

I was speaking about the world at large. What are you trying to say in this post? I asked questions of you, I didn't tell you to shut up. So, why is that you decided to slink off and play the victim?

I'm a Bruce fan, but I'm nothing like some of my friends. One of my friends, Jess, bought tickets for a show that takes place in August-- she bought the tickets in February. She skipped school so she could go to ticketmaster when the tickets first went on sale. crazy.

I like Bruce Springsteen he is a heck of a singer. BUt I'm not gonna hate him for supporting the Dixie Chicks. Actually I still like the Dixie Chicks. I think they have a right to there opinion I just don't think it was right for them to say it infront of all those people but I'm not gonna stop listening to there music because of that like I said they have a right to there opinion and theres tons of other people against the war its just there not famouse so they don't get bashed as much as the Dixie Chicks do because of it.

Now let's think about this, shall we? The Dixie Chicks were in London giving a concert. Because many people over there do not have the highest opinion of our President and his policies, nor of Tony Blair going along with them, they may have thought that since the Dixie Chicks were from the same state as Dubya, they must have endorsed his policy about the war. Is it possible that they may have faced hostility from people over there over being thought of as Bush supporters? There is a little anti-American sentiment over there. But I think that in a concert situation, people say and do things that they wouldn't otherwise do anywhere else. I don't know how some innocuous comment expressing disapproval of Bush in a concert would be cause for such nonsense. Who takes notes of what people say in concert?
But I think that the Dixie Chicks are sorry for what they said. It's almost like some comments that John Lennon said in passing about Christ ("we're more popular than Jesus") in a British magazine over 35 years ago were meant to be this big huge whirlwind of outrage.

I love Bruce. He was one of my early introductions to rock n'roll and I still listen to his music all the time. Born In the U.S.A is one of my top three favotite albums and Born To Run, Darkness at the Edge of Town, The River, Tunnel of Love and Nabraska are also favorites. Bruce is second only to John Lennon when it came to writing songs that have something to say about the human experience. :dog:

Bruce hasn't made a great record in 20 years. Right now Bruce is thinking about those "Glory Days".

That's definitely not true. Obviously you haven't heard The Ghost Of Tom Joad or The Rising, not to mention the Oscar-winning song "Streets Of Philadelphia."

His early stuff is killer. I will say that it's impossible for him or anyone else in his position to top what he did 20 and 30 years ago. I have heard those songs you mentioned and they are good by today's standards.

True.
Born in the USA was his last "great" album.
(except Tunnel of Love was grossly underrated)
But there is plenty of good stuff still coming from Bruce.
And albums like Darkness on the Edge of Town and Born to Run are immortal.
You can dismiss it all you like, but it's a fact.

it's funny looking back at these posts from a year ago, seeing just how bent out of shape people were about Bruce and Dixie Chicks, lol.
I'm not a fan of Bruce, Dixie Chicks or George W. but I agree that Bruce and Dixie have the right to speak what they think about George, because George says a lot of things that we don't agree with either.

Tunnel Of Love released in 1987 was one of Bruce's best albums. I would place it along side Born In The USA, Born To Run and Darkness On The Edge Of Town.

Bruce Springsteen is the man. He's just great! I don't let politics get in the way of the music or movies I like. I own the "Born to Run" and "Born in the USA" CDs and loved them, but when "The Rising" came out a few years ago it made me like him even more. While I don't always agree with his politics, he will forever be "the Boss."
