View Full Version : The 'homophobia' test

Mossopp
04-15-2003, 04:21 PM
I stumbled upon this website today. It asks 25 questions about your attitude towards gay people and, judging by your answers, rates how homophobic you are.
I took the test. I got a score of 11 and it told me I am "A high-grade non-homophobe" which would make sense - I've never heard of a homophobic lesbian, have you?
Take the test if you want and tell me your results. I know people here have a bit of a penchant for personality tests but I understand that it's not a test that everyone may want to take and make their results public.

Doesn't shock me at all. I've had a few gay friends. I'm one of those neutral people who isn't anti-gay, but isn't really pro-yay-everyone-be-gay, if you know what I mean.

Reminds me of a story. I went to Rocky Horror with a couple friends from the old theatre troupe I was in. A guy and a girl. They were laughing and snickering to each other saying 'Should we tell her?" "I don't know.." stuff like that.
"Tell me what?" I asked. They didn't know me too well at the time and probably didn't think I was 'cool' with just about everything.

"Promise you won't tell?"

Me: "...Yeah, what is it?"

Girl: "Well, we're both bi."

Me: "Oh. Cool."

Girl: "...Well, aren't you going to say anything?"

Me: "Say what? It's not like you guys are the first bisexual people I've met. "

They were actually shocked that I didn't make a big deal about it. What'd they expect? "OH MY GOD! YOU'RE GAY! WOWZEE WOW WOW! "

They should have assumed that since we were at Rocky Horror...maybe I'm okay with stuff like that? ;)

I can understand that.
Perhaps they were just used to getting abuse from people because of their sexuality and that's why they were so surprised to find that you didn't have a problem with it.
I'm so used to getting sh*t from people that I actually feel greatful towards those who accept me for who I am. I know I shouldn't feel greatful - I should expect people to accept me - but I can't help it. I'm just so used to the abuse.

I am not afraid of Homosexuals or Lesbians at all.
In high school I had friends Boys and Girls that were. They were really special people to. I only hate one homosexual. His sex preference has nothing to do with it either. I would hate him just as much if he were straight. He was very abusive to myself and other people. He will pay one day.

The question wasn't exactly like that but anyway I answered 'yes' because, hell yes. But not because they happen to be homosexuals, but because certain individuals maybe they pick their nose in public or talk to much or something. Maybe I misunderstood the question. I guess I would have gotten an 18 even if the question was about Eskimos or Netherlandites.

It's got nothing to do with being a grouch.
I'm gay and I scored 11 points. Yet some straight people scored less than me - some as low as 3 or 4.
It just doesn't make sense. How can a straight person be less homophobic than a gay person???

uh, i think 'gay' is so overrated... i mean...it's no disease....it's just sex! big frickin deal! i have no problem with 'gays' they're sexuality means nothing to me. just like any straight person. the only thing i would have a problem with is if a gay person 'came on to me'. cuz, i have a right to not like it if i'm not gay myself. just like if a girl i don't like comes on to me... that's pretty much the only thing i would have a problem with when it comes to 'gays'. and i also don't understand why we label gays like some animal. Mossopp, do gay people go around and point at people and go 'oh look, there's a straight person!' or go to others 'you're so ****ing straight!'? the whole label thing is so frickin dumb...

OK, I know you don't mean to be offensive but a lot of the things you said could be misconstrued.
First of all, don't say "Being gay is overrated" cos then you sound like you think that being gay is some kind of fashion statement - and that could not be further from the truth.
Secondly - you say you have no problem with gay people yet you would have a serious problem if a gay person expressed an interest in you. Let me ask you this - would you feel as uncomfortable if a straight person that you did not find attractive came onto you?
And thirdly, no - I do not make fun of straight people because of their sexuality. Personally, I do not understand straight women - I just fail to see what they find so attractive in men.
I must admit, I do use the word "straight" as a derogatory term, but only as a reaction to the current trend amoung today's youth of using the word "gay" as an insult. I balk every time I hear someone say "oh man, that is so gay!!" - like it's a bad thing. It sounds so ignorant! So now, if I see something I dislike or think is stupid, then I say it's "straight".
I don't have a predudice against all straight people - only those who harbour prejudice towards me.

i mean come onto me, like make a pass at me. i would not like it. if they just simply told me they liked me, i'd be like 'okay, but don't expect me to like you that way back'. and i said that i wouldn't like it if an unattractive girl came onto me, i wouldn't like it.

I know how you feel I think it's really sad how straight people are always going around saying OMG, that is so gay!. Maybe I should do what you do and say OMG, that is so straight! But then again when you think about it that's just adding to the whole problem. I do think that it's wrong for straight people to go around and use the word mis-properly, but since there is so much ignorance in the world I doubt that it will ever change. I don't care what anyone says though because the way I see it everyone whether they are straight or not are considered gay. I mean not all of them may act on their feelings as you or me do, but they still judge people of the same sex for example a girl would say 'wow she's really beautiful,' she is judging on how she sees the other woman and while she may not go do her or anything she still sees her as beautiful and the same goes for guys or whatever they do. They still judge how they feel about the same sex so what if they don't go f*ck them it's still the same thing only without the sexual act. I don't care if anyone agrees or disagrees with me it's just how I see it.

Also, you're right I don't understand really how women can be that attracted to men. Maybe I've just been around bad guys all of my life-my father is a good example of this, always mistreating my mother, but then again when you look at the world it seems like there are a lot of bad guys out there. And could someone please answer this for me. Why is it that a man cannot flush the toilet and put the lid back down? I mean is it too much exercise or something? This really annoys me, my dad and brother do it all the time and I just don't understand why they can't do it. Does anyone else have this problem with the guys in their house?

Ugh I hate when people go 'that's gay', a girl I know always says that and she'll be like 'that guy looks gay' or 'you're so gay', I really don't understand why people do that... why do people use a sexuality as a form of an insult?

Maybe this is the wrong place to post this, but it's a homosexual-based thread...so maybe its the right place.

But, at my school, there's a sudden outbreak of lesbians. I'm not saying that I have any problems at all with lesbians...or gay men, but now, it's "cool" to be gay. Is that what homosexuals really want? For it to be the next trend? People at school are actually making bets on how long it'll take before they "change back" to being straight. Some people actually are gay, but a lot of them just do it for attention. Two girls made out to get free hamburgers...you can't tell me that's real.

So, is it "cool" to be gay where you are?

Well, at least it isn't like gay people getting married to heterosexuals to prove they're "not" (or "over" being) gay.

'round here its "cool" to be bi. cuz there arent any actual "gay" kids in my school, everyone's bi. its pretty funny. but some of the kids are faking it, and others actually are bi or gay. and some just wanna be better than everyone. me, im just bi. i have a crush on a girl and i really could care less. i dont get all depressed and stuff like "OMG! i caaaaaaaaaaant like a girl! THIS IS BAAADD!!!" but sometimes it does bug me, cuz you know nothing can ever really happen, the most you'll get out of them is a smile. and it sucks to be so in love with someone and you just cant tell them how you feel cuz it'll end up hurting both of you in the end.</rant>

So let me get this straight you don't like gay people?

EricIdlefan
11-17-2003, 07:52 PM
I like them because in the bible it says love the sinner for who that person is even if you don't agree with their lifestyles or any other things!!

Wow, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. I'm not a sinner just because I like the same sex. People just don't like to admit that other people are gonna be different in many ways including sexuality. Who the hell wants to be like everyone else anyway? I could careless what the bible says because I don't follow any of those religions. Not my thing, just like being interested in the opposite sex isn't my thing.

But anyway how can you "like" gay people if you're a high-grade homophobic?

I don't know what the hell the number means, but at least I'm not homophobic: 19 - Your score rates you as "high-grade non-homophobic."

In general, the higher the score, the greater the negative attitudes and beliefs about homosexuals. At the end, you can compare your score to the participants' in the Adams study to see whether you ranked as more or less homophobic.

A note on the scoring: Answer honestly. The scoring of the test is not as obvious as the 1-5 numbering might indicate.

If that's the case, I'm surprised my score isn't lower.

I try to treat people the way they like to be treated even though I don't agree with their lifestyles but I still like them as both a friend and human being!!

I'm sorry, but I hate that line. Oh, I'm really a lesbian trapped in a man's body. No, if you were a lesbian you wouldn't have a penis.

Are lesbians just men, trapped in women's bodies then? I don't agree with your thinking.

Welcome, though. I see you're new.
