- TV Land Legends: The 60 Minute Interviews

Sunday, May 4 - #1– Jackie Gleason
In this 1984 interview with Morley Safer, Gleason talks candidly about growing up in Brooklyn and how difficult life was for his hard-working mother who toiled tirelessly to support her children after his father deserted the family. 'The Great One' also reflects on his unique rise to stardom and the inspiration for his signature Ralph Kramden character. Gleason also offers a glimpse into the wild life of a major TV star and the perks that go along with it.

Sunday, May 11 - #13 – Rob Reiner
Even the most powerful movie studio bosses and movie directors sometimes can't escape silly nicknames. Even though "All in the Family" went off the air decades ago, to this day Rob Reiner is called "meathead" wherever he goes. He is considered one of Hollywood's best directors, at some point, producing seven successful films in a row. Some of his most famous credits include "Misery", "A Few Good Men" and "When Harry Met Sally". He is a partner at Castle Rock Entertainment, one of the hottest production companies in Hollywood. He is also in constant demand as an actor. Few could say that Rob Reiner had anything to complain about, except for maybe being called "Meathead". When Steve Kroft meets with Rob Reiner in this episode of TV Land Legends: The 60 Minutes Interviews, Reiner talks about growing up with a famous father, living up to his expectations and directing "When Harry Met Sally".

Sunday, May 18 - #2 – Johnny Carson
This 1979 interview with Mike Wallace almost didn't happen as Carson initially declined but had a change of heart at the last minute. In one of the rare times Carson has been the interviewee instead if the interviewer, he talked frankly and honestly with Wallace about a number of very personal subjects including alcoholism, his penchant for being aloof and guarded, and the nature of show business and late night television. Carson also engaged Wallace in some of his more light-hearted pursuits including tennis, card-tricks, and playing the drums.

Darn, I was hoping for The Munsters to make one last return in May before the rights expires. :(

Thanks, PB. I'm surprised that the TV Land Kitschen, will stay the same, it been that way for a few months, I wonder when they will decide to change it. I'm glad they will air two seperate episodes of The Donna Reed Show in their "Mother's Like No Others" block, even though it won't be airing in their regular schedule. I don't know why they are keeping Gidget and The Flying Nun for May, they have very few episodes, and they are going to have to air in several rotations. Hopefully, many new shows will follow in June.

I like part of the Kitschen - The Welcome Back Kotter and Square Pegs part! I think I'd like Soap if I had been able to watch it from the start and I still tape it even though I have no idea what plots are going on. I am just not a fan of My Favorite Martian (even though I tape it too because it's on durig the Kitschen) and I'd love to see something like Joanie Loves Chachi there or even something like My Sister Sam. But leave Kotter please :):)

I'm glad about Kotter and Martian staying (TV Land has all of the episodes for those shows). Hopefully, all 98 or whatever eps of Kotter are aired.

I'm surprised about Square Pegs staying. Soap, not really, it does pretty good for TV Land, I mean, you'd think they'd get new episodes...

What TV Land REALLY should have done was keep the same schedule (that started in January) through April. And then change it to the April schedule in May. That would have made better sense. *shrug*

I'll live.

TvLand, TvLand ....what is your deal?

Summer is coming and my people (the midwesterners - not surprisingly indiginous to the midwest) need 2 things - car chases / crashes and tornado action.

If tvland doesnt pick up the dukes of hazzard, every single one of us - YES, EVERYONE IN THE MIDWEST - is just gonna use plan B
(sittin on the front porch till 4am listening to Ozzy and/or the Eagles ... FULL BLAST)

Those of you who dont live is a state neighboring the midwest probably didn't know a think about this - or maybe only saw it on CNN once. Well, Tvland, you could have stopped it and once again you didnt.
Way to go.
