Which punk bands do you prefer to listen to? Why?

Yah I'd answer this, but you know I don't even know the definition of a punk band and I don't particularly feel like getting contradicted if I list certain people, so yea.

Avril Lavigne isn't a band... she has one. But she herself is a solo singer.

And Simple Plan?! Hard Punk?! *snorts* yeah.... right. Someone clearly has to brush up on their music genres

Its hard to describe what's punk and whats not nowadays. Everyone has their own opinion of it. But oh well, someone mentioned Sugarcult a while ago, and I like them. And if you would consider Offspring a punk band, I like them too. I havent ever listened to the older stuff, so I dont really have an opinion on that, but I'm sure its way better than the "punk" we have now.

I think Incubus are just hard-rock. Those boy-bands with guitars that you are refering to, I would't really consider them to be punk.

Most (if not all) of the punk bands that I like are from the 60s, 70s, and 80s--I can't think of many that are "current". But the ideology of punk is still alive within people who desire to examine their lives, change things that they don't like, and make chages for the betterment of humanity.

Other ones I forgot to mention

The Monks (credited as one of the first punk bands--they're from the late 60s and *amazing*)
New York Dolls
Dead Boys
The Jam
Fear
T.S.O.L

PUNK
The Ramones
The Clash
Dead Kennedy's
Rancid
Subhumans
At The Drive-In

I'm a bigger EMO ("soft" punk) fan:
Saves the Day
The Smiths
Finch
Starting Line
Dashboard Confessional
Coldplay
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sugarcult
All-American Rejects
OK Go
AFI

A lot of Emo is loud. It came out of the hardcore scene in the 80's It's pretty much bands like Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Pop Unknown, White Octave, Rites Of Spring, etc. The simple defintion of it is emotionally-charged punk....and by emtional, with most bands, it ranges anywhere from screaming to actual sobbing but not all emocore bands are like that.

I didn't mean "soft" as in sounding "soft" (as in low)- but as more emotional. You know like when people call an "emotional" person "soft." :D

I think I got you even more confused.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I'd definitely post in that topic as well!

Punk is great because it can be political, humorous, personal, or emotional.

The stuff that is mainstream now is really pop-punk, I think. It's very different from anarcho-punk, for example.

Alkalkine Trio(midwestern punk at its finest)
The Misfits
Saves the Day(not so punk by punk standards, but totally awesome)
