...and beautiful acts of senselessness.
So I've never really participated that much in a random thread, but I'm bored and running out of things to talk about. Maybe we should have a contest on who can come up with the most interesting random thread....
So anyone hear they caught one of the higher-up honchos in Al-Qaeda?

Yep! That is why the Anti Kazaa and Imesh Society Shut Down, Kazaa had as much as 6 spyware types with it at once or so, now its down to 2... Cydoor and Savenow, Many other programs have the same amount of Spyware as Kazaa... Therefore we are now just anti Spyware :) , still doesn't mean I recommend Kazaa though lol :p

What's wrong with Kazaa? My brother had me signed up for it, but I haven't used it. Is it that bad? I'm new to the music downloading thing.

Dont be..
The official explanation for spyware is programs that send back information about you without your knowledge, but its a lot worse then that now adays, besides spying on you... It can mess with important computer files... It can Take over programs, Like take over your internet explorer and do all kind of things with it that aren't good, it can Mess with your computer registry(Which is a part of the computer that has a lot of info about the computer), Can increase the amount of spam sent to you, can increase the amount of pop-ups, can cost you hundreds of dollars, Can delete programs on your computer without you knowing..

I didn't know what it was either. Unfortunately I had to learn the hard way.
Spyware is a service utilized by companies for advertising their products. It is planted in your computer, unknowingly, when you download various file sharing networks. It, actually, possibly is mentioned somewere in the 50-page Terms of Service you have to agree to, but I'm pretty sure they figure most people just scroll past that stuff. Anyway, it's kind of like a little spy that watches what sites you visit and when you do a search certain words you type trigger a pop-up ad. The pop-up ad is not coming from the site you've visited, or are trying to visit. It comes from the spyware inside your computer. So say you type "travel arrangements" into your search engine, a pop up ad for, say, www.priceline.com may appear. It's just another way of trying to entice you to their site and services. The reason people hate it so much is a) nobody likes pop up ads, b) it's planted into your computer in a sneaky way and c) it hides itself in your computer under dubious file names you're not expecting so you'll have a close to impossible time finding it to uninstall it yourself, it usually takes a special program like "ad-aware" to get it off your computer and last but not least d) it's nobody's business what you do on your computer. Bad scene. Stay clear of it.

And that damn Xupiter! That thing is evil, talk about an Internet Explorer Takeover! Me being as cautious as I am on the internet (Firewall, Virus protection, spyware detecters/removers) Even got infected with it once! It was about a month or so ago, Even though I do regular scans with ad-aware and spybot, still got on my system, yuck.... It didnt really take over my IE but I did find traces of it including in the IE Favorites...
