''Chicago,'' ''Gangs'' and ''Hours'' Score Big

-- As expected, Oscar voters smiled upon ''Chicago'' and ''The Hours,'' though ''Gangs of New York'' did better than expected. ''Chicago'' got 13 nominations, one shy of the record held by ''Titanic'' and ''All About Eve.'' ''Gangs'' followed with 10 citations, and ''Hours'' earned nine.

''Adaptation'''s Meryl Streep and ''About Schmidt'''s Jack Nicholson both were nominated; Streep is now the most nominated performer ever (13 career nominations), and Nicholson is now the most nominated actor (12 career nominations). Streep missed out on a two-fer, failing to earn a Best Actress nomination for ''The Hours,'' but ''Hours'' castmate Julianne Moore did get two nods, a Supporting nomination for ''Hours'' and a lead-role nod for ''Far From Heaven.''

The nominees were announced at a pre-dawn press conference at Academy headquarters, with the names read by 1992 Oscar winner Marisa Tomei and Academy president Frank Pierson. The 75th annual Academy Awards ceremony will be held March 23 at Hollywood's Kodak Theatre

"Lose Yourself" by Eminem, from- "8 Mile"

I still can't believe the Academy basically ignored "8 Mile." At first, the movie was getting praises from the Academy- and look at what they did. :o

I'm thrilled that Diane Lane nabbed a Best Actress nomination for Unfaithful.
I highly doubt she'll win but it's quite an honor to even be nominated. From here on in, it's, "with Academy Award nominee Diane Lane..."
I think her performance was remarkable and will give her a place on the A-List of actresses where she belongs.
She was also nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe too, but lost.
Lots of tough female competition this year with Chicago and The Hours.

Julianna Moore must be on Cloud 9, what with two nominations for two different movies!

Very happy for Queen Latifah being nominated for Chicago!

No surprise that Nicole Kidman received her second Oscar nod in two years for The Hours, and I feel she has a very good chance at taking home the gong this year.

Richard Gere must feel down, being the only major cast member from Chicago not to receive a nomination. :(

Chicago is probably going to win everything it was nomianted for, like Moulin Rouge did last year
