The movie about Joan Crawford and her daughter (adopted) Christina. What did you think of it. When I was a kid it terrified me, but I saw it the other day on Bravo, and obviously it didnt have the same effect as it did when I was a child. It still was chilling watching her beat Christina with the wire coat hanger. comments

I have seen it once.. I heard that Christinas siblings didnt like the movie very much on how it portrayed their mother. I need to see it again!I saw it along time ago.
I've seen "Mommy Dearest" a bunch of times.
It's been dismissed as a "campy" film, but for some reason I like it.
The general concensus from friends and relatives of the late Joan Crawford (especially Christina's broter) is the movie is a complete falsehood.
To this day I still get the creeps when I see a wire hanger in my closet.

Faye Dunaway played Joan Crawford to the hilt! I have read several accounts of this story by other people who knew Joan Crawford. They certainly corraborated the story! This was one strange woman!

I've seen the movie and also read the book. In the book Christina recalls how her mom wouldn't let them get out of bed during the night even to use the bathroom so one of the kids would act as lookout while the other one rushed to the bathroom. The book also states that Joan Crawford adopted two more children but for some reason they are not mentioned in the movie.
I love the movie, but I can believe that it's exaggerated. One story I love is that when Joan Crawford was alive, she was a big fan of Faye Dunaway, and supposedly she said that if they ever made a movie of Crawford's life, she wanted Dunaway to play her! Be careful what you wish for, ladies and gentlemen!

LOL How funny!! Faye did play her very well though at least they got the right person to play the part! :)
Wonder if the kids really had to call her "mommie dearest" like they did in the
movie? That would be hard to do.

Anyone ever read the book? I have it and it is one of those things where the book is BEST. The book mentions the other children Joan Crawford had...the movie never mentions these other children.

ME!! The first time I saw the movie was on a family vacation, in a hotel room with my sister in Vegas. We laughed till we cried. Irene, I read somewhere that the other kids wanted nothing to do with the movie, so that's why the other kids are not in the movie. I can never see or think of a wire hanger without thinking of this movie!!
