In T.H. White’s story, “Arthur Becomes King of Britain,” the author included anachronisms for several purposes. One of these reasons the anachronisms were used, is to add humor to the story. They also make is easier for modern-day readers to grasp certain aspects of the story.
One element that is often needed in a story such as this, is humor. For example, the nurse mentioned cutting out illuminations of the king, when in reality, that would never happen. Books were very scarce back then because they were hand crafted and difficult to reproduce. This brings up another example of an anachronism in the story that adds humor to the reading. The mention of a librarian is another item in the tale that would not have been present in the middle ages. As previously noted, there were not a lot of books back then, and certainly not enough to fill a library.
