View Full Version : Eddie's Party (another fanfic!)
All I can say is...There is no way this Fanfic will ever measure up to Laurel's "Brotherly Love is Bigger Than Fish" story, but I had already started writing this when that story was posted, so I went ahead and finished it. I hope you guys like it anyway though!
Eddie’s Party
This story is set toward the end of the sixth season.
CLEAVER KITCHEN - MORNING
June has just finished cooking breakfast, Ward is sitting at the table reading the paper. Wally and Beaver enter.
JUNE: Well, good morning you two.
BEAVER: Good morning, mom.
WALLY: Good morning.
WARD: Well, you boys are getting downstairs late this morning. You’d better hurry and eat so you aren’t late for school.
WALLY: Yes sir.
BEAVER: Yeah, I could eat my breakfast in about 2 minutes if you guys would let me!
WARD: Well, we’ll have none of that, just see that you get finished in time to leave for school.
BEAVER: Yes sir.
WALLY: Hey dad, I forgot to ask you, Eddie Haskell is having his eighteenth birthday party Friday. Can I go?
WARD: Well, I don’t see why not. You know your mother and I don’t mind you going to parties with your friends.
WALLY: Yeah, but this is sorta different.
WARD: Oh? How so?
(June serves the boys their breakfast and sits down)
WALLY: Well, you see, since it’s his eighteenth birthday, Eddie talked his parents into letting him have his party un-chaperoned.
WARD: You mean Eddie’s parents won’t be there?
WALLY: Yeah. Eddie talked them into spending the weekend in Bellport. He whined around and talked about how they needed a vacation and everything.
BEAVER: Holy Mackrel! A party with no grown ups? Neat!
JUNE: (Gives Beaver a disapproving look) Wally, I don’t like the idea of a party with no adult supervision.
WALLY: Well, heck. It’s just the same guys as always that are going to be there. Lumpy, Sam Johnston, Mike Owens, you know, the usual gang.
BEAVER: Uh-oh.
WALLY: What?
BEAVER: The usual gang…how many girls are in the “usual gang?”
WALLY: Just Mary Ellen Rogers, Alma Hanson, Julie Foster, and a few others. It’s just gonna be a regular party, only there won’t be any parents around, coming downstairs “looking for their pipe” or anything.
JUNE: I just don’t know Wally.
WARD: Yes son. This is something your mother and I are going to have to think about. We’ll let you know tonight if you can go.
WALLY: Well, ok. I’d better be getting to school.
JUNE: Have a good day.
WALLY: (Finishes off his glass of milk in one long gulp) Thanks.
(Wally leaves)
BEAVER: I’d better get going too. I need to ask Mr. Bailey something about our essay in English.
WARD: Ok son. And good luck on your arithmetic test. Remember what we talked about, invert the fractions when you divide them.
BEAVER: Yes sir.
(Beaver takes another piece of bacon from the plate by the stove and leaves)
JUNE: I don’t know if I want Wally going to this party Ward.
WARD: I know what you mean, but he will be eighteen in a few months. I think we should trust him.
JUNE: Yes, but who knows what those kids will do with no adults there to keep an eye on them.
WARD: Well, like Wally said, it is just going to be another party like all of the other parties he goes to. I don’t see any reason why he can’t go. I trust our son. If anything should happen, I believe he has enough good sense and judgment to know to stay away from it.
JUNE: I suppose you’re right dear. I still don’t like it, but I guess we can’t baby him anymore.
WARD: That’s right. We’ll just lay down a few rules for him.
JUNE: Ok.
WARD: Well, I’d better get going. Here I gave the boys a lecture about being late for school and I’m probably going to be late for work now.
JUNE: Well, no one is perfect dear.
WARD: (leans over and kisses June) Good bye dear.
JUNE: Bye.
CUT TO - WALLY’S SCHOOL
Wally and some of the guys are standing around before school starts.
EDDIE: So, Wally, what did your parents say about my party Friday night?
WALLY: Well, my dad said he would have to think about it and he’d let me know tonight.
EDDIE: You know something Wally? Your parents still fuss over you like you were a baby.
WALLY: They do not Eddie, they’re just tryin‘ to do the right thing.
EDDIE: Yeah well, What about you Lump? Did your parents squawk about it?
LUMPY: Well, they did for a little while, but they eventually said yes.
EDDIE: Hey, alright! Well that’s 12 people who said they could come now. It’ll be too bad if your parents don’t let you come, Wally. This is gonna be one swingin’ party…and I mean swingin’…if you know what I mean.
WALLY: What do you mean “swingin?”
EDDIE: What do you mean what do I mean?
WALLY: I just didn’t like the tone in your voice when you said it.
EDDIE: Nothin’ Sam! Don’t worry about it. (pats Wally on the arm with the back of his hand) Just know, if you come, your going to have a GREAT time…trust me...heh heh heh.
(Eddie, Lumpy and a couple of other guys walk off, laughing. Wally stands there a minute, trying to figure out what Eddie meant. The bell rings, and Wally goes into a classroom)

Now why do I get the feeling that Wally and Lumpy won't be able to attend Eddie's "swingin'" party?
Looking forward to more!
Part 2
CUT TO - CLEAVER LIVING ROOM
The phone rings and June walks around the corner from the dining room to answer it.
JUNE: (answering the phone) Hello?
WARD: Hi.
JUNE: Oh, it’s you.
WARD: Well, don’t get so excited about it dear.
JUNE: Oh Ward, it’s just that I thought you would be Laura from department store. I left a message for her to call me.
WARD: Oh. Well, I’ll only keep you a minute. I was just going to tell you that I talked to Fred Rutherford about this party of Eddie’s.
JUNE: Oh. Is he letting Clarence go?
WARD: Yes. He told me he called the Haskell’s to find out exactly what would be going on at this party. He said that the Haskell’s would be calling during the party to check on things. He said that they decided that they trusted Lumpy enough to go.
JUNE: Well, it’s good the Haskell’s will be checking in. I guess I feel a little better about it now.
WARD: I thought you would. That’s why I called.
JUNE: Well, thank you dear, but are we finished? I don’t want the line to be busy when Laura tries to call.
WARD: Well, alright. It’s nice to know who has priority in your life.
JUNE: Now, Ward.
WARD: Bye dear.
JUNE: Bye.
CLEAVER KITCHEN - AFTERNOON
June is sitting on a stool by the sink, cutting carrots into a bowl. Beaver comes in and sets his school books down on the counter by the door.
JUNE: Well, hi there Beaver.
BEAVER: Hi mom. (Beaver reaches into the cookie jar and grabs a handful of cookies)
JUNE: Beaver, only one cookie, it’s too close to supper.
BEAVER: Sorry mom. (Puts all but one of the cookies back in the jar)
JUNE: So, how did your arithmetic test go?
BEAVER: Great mom! Mr. Jackson graded them at the end of class. I got a 90!
JUNE: A 90! In arithmetic? Beaver that’s wonderful!
BEAVER: Yeah.
(Wally comes in)
JUNE: Hi Wally.
WALLY: Hi mom.
BEAVER: Hey Wally. I got a 90 on my arithmetic test!
WALLY: (in an unenthusiastic tone) Wonderful.
BEAVER: Heck, Wally, what’s eatin’ you?
WALLY: Nothin.’
JUNE: Something is Wally.
WALLY: Well, it’s just that the guys gave me the business at school about you and dad being overprotective and junk. All the other guys already got permission to go to the party, so Eddie and some of the others kept buggin’ me about it. I almost punched Eddie right in the stomach, but he backed off.
BEAVER: Yeah. That sounds about like Eddie. Right when there’s about to be a good fight, he chickens out.
JUNE: Well, your father and I have decided to let you go to the party Friday. That is, unless you’ve changed your mind now.
WALLY: Oh. Well I haven’t changed my mind. I’m used to Eddie’s behavior by now. I still want to go. Thanks for letting me.
JUNE: That’s ok Wally. Your father and I trust you, and know you have enough good judgment to handle anything that may come up.
WALLY: Yeah. Well, I’d better go get started on my homework.
JUNE: Alright Wally.
(Wally grabs an apple and leaves)
(June gets up from her stool and walks over to the fridge. While her back is turned, Beaver reaches into the bowl to grab a carrot. June catches him and swats his hand)
JUNE: Oh no you don’t.
BEAVER: (Smiles) Sorry mom. I just like carrots.
JUNE: Don’t you have some homework you could be doing?
BEAVER: Sure mom, I’ll get lost.
JUNE: Now, Beaver, you know I didn’t mean for you to get lost.
BEAVER: Ok mom.
(Ward walks in the door as Beaver is leaving)
WARD: Where ya going Beav?
BEAVER: (jokingly) Mom told me to get lost.
JUNE: I did no such thing.
(Beaver and Ward laugh, then Beaver leaves)
WARD: (sets his briefcase down) Hi dear.
JUNE: Hi. (kisses Ward) How was your day?
WARD: (sarcastically) Wonderful.
JUNE: You’re as bad as Wally.
WARD: (looking into the bowl of carrots) He does take after me you know. Good boy. (reaches into the bowl)
JUNE: (Grabs Wards arm and pulls his hand out of the bowl) Dear?
WARD: Yes?
JUNE: Get lost.
WARD: Yes dear. (Ward grabs his briefcase, smiles at June, and leaves)
CUT TO - BOYS BEDROOM
Wally is sitting on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Beaver enters the room and throws his books on his bed.
BEAVER: Hey Wally, I thought you had homework to do.
WALLY: I do.
BEAVER: Then why are you layin’ on your bed staring at the ceiling like a creep?
WALLY: Because, I’m thinking.
BEAVER: What about?
WALLY: Look here, if it were any of your business or I woulda told you.
BEAVER: Sorry I asked. But come on. I’m your brother. What ever it is that’s botherin’ you, you can tell me. I won’t tell anybody, honest!
WALLY: Well, I guess I would feel better if I talked about it. You promise you won’t tell?
BEAVER: Sure.
WALLY: Well, Eddie and the guys pickin’ on me about mom and dad isn’t what’s really botherin’ me.
BEAVER: I kinda figured that.
WALLY: Eddie and some of the guys were givin’ me the business, and I think they were hinting around that there is gonna be alcohol at that party.
BEAVER: Alcohol? No foolin’? How do you know?
WALLY: It’s just that they kept sayin’ I was gonna have a great time at the party and they kept punching each other in the arm. I remember hearing one of the guys ask him earlier if he was gonna have any since his parents wouldn’t be there. Eddie kept saying junk like “Don’t worry about it” and “I’ll handle it” I think he may have gotten someone to get it for him.
BEAVER: Boy. Mom and dad sure aren’t gonna go for this. You gotta tell them Wally.
WALLY: No Beav! I’m not gonna look like some kind of baby. I don’t know for sure if there’s gonna be any alcohol or not, and I’m not gonna take that chance by telling mom and dad. That would ruin me with the guys forever. And if it turns out there never was gonna be any alcohol, it would’ve all been for nothing’.
BEAVER: I guess I see what you mean.
WALLY: You better not say anything to mom and dad about this.
BEAVER: Hey, I promised didn’t I?
WALLY: Yeah. But you just better not, see?
BEAVER: Sure Wally.
WALLY’S SCHOOL - NEXT DAY
The guys are standing out on the front steps of the school waiting for the bell to ring.
EDDIE: So, Sam, What’s the verdict?
WALLY: Huh?
EDDIE: What did the warden say? Can you come to my party or not?
WALLY: Oh, oh yeah I’m comin’.
EDDIE: That’s great Sam. This party’s gonna be great.
WALLY: (under his breath) I’m sure it will.
EDDIE: What’s that?
WALLY: Oh nothing. I was just sayin’ it was gonna be great.
EDDIE: That’s the spirit, Gertrude. I’ll see you knuckle heads around. I gotta go ask Mary Ellen Rogers if she’s coming to my party.
LUMPY: Why are you waiting until now to ask her?
EDDIE: Because I didn’t know for sure if Wally would be there. I have to have a back up if she says she doesn’t want to.
WALLY: Cut it out Eddie. I’m goin’ to class.
CUT TO - CLEAVER LIVING ROOM
June is taking a break from her housework and is sitting on the sofa reading a magazine. The doorbell rings, she gets up to answer it.
JUNE: (opens the door and finds Ward standing there) Ward! What are you doing here?
WARD: I live here.
JUNE: Really Ward.
WARD: Well, I had a meeting that finished early so I decided to come home and have lunch with you. In fact, I don’t have to go back to the office at all today.
JUNE: Well! What a nice surprise!
(Ward gives June a kiss on the cheek)
WARD: You know me. I’m just full of surprises.
JUNE: (sarcastically) I know. I sent Wally’s gray suit to the cleaners. I was thinking it would be nice if it were pressed for the party tonight. Sit down and I’ll go fix us something to eat.
WARD: Alright dear.
FRONT OF CLEAVER HOUSE - LATER THAT DAY
Wally is walking slowly down the sidewalk. Beaver comes running up behind him.
WALLY: (Sees Beaver) Oh great. Dad’s home.
BEAVER: Yeah. What of it?
WALLY: I just hope he doesn’t ask me a lot of questions about the party tonight.
BEAVER: Oh.
(The boys go into the house)
WARD: (In the den) Hi fellows!
WALLY: Um, hi dad. You’re home early.
WARD: Yes, I had a meeting and we finished early.
WALLY: Oh.
WARD: Well, come in here a minute Wally, I want to talk to you.
(Wally and Beaver give each other a look as if to say “uh oh”)
BEAVER: Uh, I’m gonna go say hi to mom. See ya later Wally.
WALLY: Yeah, see ya.
BEAVER: (enters kitchen and walks over to June) Hi mom.
JUNE: Hi Beaver!
BEAVER: Wally’s in the den talkin’ to dad, so I thought I’d come talk to you.
JUNE: Well, how nice. I’d enjoy the company!
BEAVER: Sure mom.
CUT TO - CLEAVER DEN
WARD: So, Wally, are you all ready for the party tonight?
WALLY: Uh, yes sir.
WARD: Well that’s fine. I spoke to Fred Rutherford today. He says his Clarence will be there.
WALLY: Yeah, Lumpy’ll be there.
WARD: Well, I just wanted to tell you that your mother had your gray suit cleaned and pressed today, so you’d look nice.
WALLY: Oh, oh she did? Ok then.
WARD: She laid it out on your bed for you.
WALLY: Alright.
(there is a long kind of awkward pause)
WALLY: Did you want anything else?
WARD: Oh, um...no. No I guess not.
WALLY: Oh, well, ok, um, thanks dad. (Wally exits breathing a sigh of relief.)
More to come later...

Part 3
CLEAVER LIVING ROOM - LATER THAT NIGHT
Ward and June are sitting on the sofa reading the paper, Beaver comes downstairs.
BEAVER: Mom, dad? Wally’s coming down.
(Ward and June smile at each other and put the paper aside and stand up)
WALLY: (enters the room)
JUNE: Oh Wally, you look so nice.
WARD: That’s right son. You really look sharp.
WALLY: Uh, thanks. And thanks for having it pressed mom.
JUNE: You’re welcome.
WARD: So, Wally, do you want me to drive you over to Eddie’s since your car is in the shop?
WALLY: Oh, no thanks dad, Lumpy’s stopping by on his way over. He’s gonna take me.
WARD: Oh, well alright.
JUNE: You just be careful riding with that Clarence. He’s gotten a couple of speeding tickets.
WALLY: I will mom. If he tries anything stupid with me, I’ll clobber ‘em.
(A huge smile crosses Beaver’s face, Ward gives Wally a disapproving look)
(The doorbell rings.)
WALLY: That must be Lumpy, I’ll get it.
(June, Ward, and Beaver follow Wally to the door)
WALLY: (opens the door) Hi Lumpy.
LUMPY: Hi. Hello Mrs. Cleaver, Mr. Cleaver, hi Beaver.
WARD: Hello Clarence.
JUNE: Hi Clarence. You certainly look nice this evening.
LUMPY: Thank you. You ready to go Wally?
WALLY: Sure. Bye mom, by dad. See ya Beav.
WARD: Um, just a second Wally. (Ward excuses himself and Wally and they both go into the den)
WARD: Now son, I want you to be home by 12.
WALLY: Ok dad.
WARD: And I don’t want you doing anything foolish.
WALLY: Yes sir.
WARD: Alright then. Have a good time.
WALLY: Thanks dad. (They exit the den) Bye everybody.
(Wally and Lumpy leave)
JUNE: I hope nothing happens at that party tonight.
(Beaver looks slightly worried)
BEAVER: Um, I’m gonna go upstairs.
(Beaver turns to go upstairs)
WARD: Wait a minute. Do you know something we don’t know?
BEAVER: Uh, no dad. Why do you think that?
WARD: Because you’re thirteen years old and you want to spend a Friday night in your room, that’s why.
JUNE: If you know something, tell us Beaver.
BEAVER: I don’t know anything, mom.
WARD: Alright. Go on upstairs.
(Beaver goes upstairs, June and Ward give each other a slightly worried look)
CUT TO - HASKELL HOUSE
Wally and Lumpy have just arrived.
LUMPY: (Rings the doorbell)
EDDIE: (answers the door) Hey fellas! Come on in! Lets get this party started!
(Lumpy and Wally come into the house and look around. Everyone is just dancing and eating like always.)
EDDIE: Hey everybody! Wally and Lumpy are here! What do you say we really get this party going?
(A few of the guys cheer. Wally looks around again and realizes he doesn’t recognize some of the guys and he doesn't recognize any of the girls at the party. He also notices that a few of them are smoking)
WALLY: (quietly) Hey Lumpy, who are these girls? Some of them look like they’re in their 20s!
LUMPY: Some of the guys just invited them. Thought they would be more fun than any of the girls we’re used to.
(Eddie and a couple of other guys come into the room, carrying beers)
WALLY: (walks over to Eddie) (quietly) Hey Eddie, what are you tryin’ to pull? You know we can’t drink!
EDDIE: Relax Sam! We’re just going to have a couple of drinks. Nothing’s gonna happen. Come on. Here, here’s you a beer. (Eddie pops the top and hands Wally a bottle)
WALLY: No way Eddie, nothing doin’.
EDDIE: Have it your own way. (Eddie walks off, drinking from the bottle he offered Wally)
WALLY: (walks over to Lumpy, who has just opened a beer) Hey, Lumpy, what are you doin? You have to drive me home!
LUMPY: I know Wally, but don’t worry. I’m only gonna have this one. I’ll be fine.
WALLY: Well, alright Lumpy. Just that one.
LUMPY: Relax!
(Wally goes over to the sofa and sits down. A few minutes later a girl smoking a cigarette named Carol comes over and sits down next to him)
CAROL: Hi there. I’m Carol. What’s your name cutie?
WALLY: Wally…Wally Cleaver.
CAROL: Well Wally. What’s a cute boy like you doing sitting here all by yourself?
WALLY: Uh, I…I don’t know.
CAROL: (offering Wally a drink) Well here, have a drink.
WALLY: Uh, no thanks. I don’t drink.
CAROL: Come on. (leans in toward Wally) It’ll loosen you up.
WALLY: (Obviously uncomfortable abruptly stands up) No. No thank you. (Wally walks outside and sits on the swing on the Haskell’s front porch, , wondering why he even came to this party)
(A while later, A lot of people come out of the house and speed off in their cars, then Eddie and Lumpy come out-completely drunk.)
EDDIE: Hey Wally, the party was inside.
WALLY: Yeah, I know, but this wasn’t my kind of party Eddie.
LUMPY: Well, come on Wally, I’m gonna take you home.
WALLY: No way Lumpy. You’re drunk. I’m not riding with you.
LUMPY: Well what are you gonna do? Walk? It’s too far.
WALLY: (looks at his watch and notices it’s ten till twelve.) Well, alright Lumpy, but you better be careful.
LUMPY: Alright, alright. Now come on.
EDDIE: (in a high pitched voice) Drive safely boys!
LUMPY: Ahhhh.
(Wally and Lumpy get into the car, and Lumpy peels out, speeding off in his car)
WALLY: LUMPY! You better slow down!
LUMPY: Cool it Cleaver.
WALLY: Lumpy you better slow down or I’m gonna paste you one.
LUMPY: (takes his eyes off the road and looks at Wally) Listen, when I need drivin’ directions I’ll ask for ‘em.
WALLY: Listen Lumpy…(looks out the windshield and notices Lumpy is headed straight off the road toward a big tree) LUMPY! SLOW DOWN!
LUMPY: Wha...?
WALLY: Look out!

Part 4-Conclusion
CUT TO - BOYS BEDROOM
Beaver is lying in bed, still awake. He looks at the clock and notices that it’s 1 am and Wally still isn’t home.)
BEAVER: (thinking to himself) Boy… Wally’s sure gonna get it. It’s not like him to be late though.
(Beaver is startled when he hears the doorbell ring. He puts on his robe and runs downstairs and answers the door. He finds a police officer standing there. Ward comes down right behind him, followed by June a minute later.)
WARD: What is it officer?
OFFICER: Are you Mr. Cleaver?
WARD: Yes, I’m Ward Cleaver.
OFFICER: I’m officer Stevens. I’m here about your son, Wallace.
JUNE: (a look of terror comes over her) What is it officer?
OFFICER: I’m afraid he’s been involved in a serious accident, Mrs. Cleaver.
JUNE: (gasps in shock) An accident?
WARD: What happened?
OFFICER: Well, he was riding with another boy, a Clarence Rutherford.
WARD: That’s right.
OFFICER: Well, apparently Clarence had a little too much to drink.
JUNE: Drink? Ward, there was alcohol at that party!
OFFICER: Well, he ran off the road and hit a tree going approximately 40 miles per hour.
JUNE: Oh no.
(Beaver looks at his mother, who is starting to cry. He walks over to her and puts his arm around her, hugging her.)
OFFICER: The Rutherford boy was barely hurt, we took him into the station. But unfortunately your son wasn’t so lucky. He was hurt pretty bad.
WARD: How serious is it?
OFFICER: Well, I don’t know anything for sure. They took him by ambulance to Mayfield General Hospital.
WARD: Thank you officer.
OFFICER: You’re welcome. I hope your son is ok.
( The officer leaves and Ward, June, and Beaver go upstairs and change and rush to the hospital)
MAYFIELD HOSPITAL - LATER THAT NIGHT
The Cleavers arrive at the Emergency Room entrance and run in.
WARD: Um, could you tell me anything about my son? He was brought in here earlier.
NURSE: What’s his name?
WARD: Wallace Cleaver.
NURSE: Just a moment. (the nurse leaves and goes through the large wooden doors reading “No Admittance-Authorized Personnel Only beyond this point”)
(A few minutes later, the nurse returned)
NURSE: Mr. Cleaver?
WARD: Yes.
NURSE: The doctor would like to speak to you and your wife.
WARD: Ok.
BEAVER: Do you want me to wait out here dad?
NURSE: Is he the brother?
WARD: Yes.
NURSE: He can come too.
WARD: Ok. Come on son.
(The nurse took them back to a small office with a desk and a couch in it. They waited about 20 minutes before the doctor came)
DOCTOR: Mr. And Mrs. Cleaver?
WARD: (stands up) Yes.
DOCTOR: (shakes hands with Ward) I’m doctor Porter. I’ve been taking care of Wallace.
WARD: How is he doctor?
DOCTOR: Well, at this point we aren’t sure. After we got him stabilized we had to send him up to surgery.
JUNE: Surgery?
DOCTOR: Yes, Mrs. Cleaver, your son had chest injuries. They had to operate to repair some of the damage and make sure there was no damage to the heart.
JUNE: Oh…Well, is he going to be ok Doctor?
DOCTOR: Until he is out of surgery, I won’t know anything. When he is finished I can give you a full report. I understand you want to know more, but I’m afraid I just can’t tell you anymore until he is out of surgery. I wish there were more that I could do.
WARD: We understand doctor. And thank you.
DOCTOR: I will take you to the surgery waiting room. (escorts the Cleavers to another waiting area) I will come talk to you as soon as he comes out.
WARD: Thank you doctor.
(The Cleavers enter the waiting room and each take a seat. There is no one else in the waiting room)
BEAVER: Boy, I hate hospitals. They give me the creeps
WARD: Why?
BEAVER: It’s just all these white walls, and white floors and these cold metal chairs. And it smells like my science class smelled the day we dissected frogs.
JUNE: Beaver.
BEAVER: Sorry mom.
(The Cleavers waited in silence another couple of hours before the doctor returned.)
DOCTOR: Well, Mr. And Mrs. Cleaver, your son is out of surgery.
JUNE: How is he?
DOCTOR: Well, I am happy to tell you that it was quite a struggle, but he’s going to be fine.
JUNE: (breathes a sigh of relief and quickly sits back down in her chair) Thank heavens.
BEAVER: (sits down beside her and they hug)
DOCTOR: Your son suffered a concussion and he dislocated his shoulder. He had two broken ribs, but fortunately, they didn’t damage his lungs. He also has a broken leg, but I’m pretty sure it will heal just fine. Now we will need him to stay about a week to give him time to rest and heal, but he should be able to go home next Friday or Saturday.
JUNE: Can we see him, doctor?
DOCTOR: Well, he’s still asleep, but you can see him now. In fact he should be waking up pretty soon.
WARD: Thank you doctor.
DOCTOR: Wait here, and I will be right back to take you to him.
(The doctor leaves, and a minute later Fred Rutherford and Lumpy show up)
FRED: Ward? Ward, how’s Wally?
WARD: Well, Fred, he’s going to be alright.
FRED: (Looks at Lumpy and speaks to him in an angry but calm tone. It is obvious Fred is genuinely mad at Lumpy) Now, boy, you better just be thankful he’s going to be alright. Do you realize what a stupid thing you did? Wally could have been killed by your negligence.
LUMPY: Yes sir.
FRED: I got the phone call and had to pick up Clarence from the police station.
LUMPY: Mr. Cleaver? I know it doesn’t mean much now, but I don’t know what else to say but I’m sorry. It was a stupid thing for me to do and I realize my actions could have killed Wally. I know you can probably never forgive me, I just hope you know I am truly sorry for what I’ve done, and I understand if you choose to press charges.
WARD: Clarence. I do forgive you. And so does Mrs. Cleaver.
JUNE: That’s right Clarence.
WARD: Clarence, you made a mistake. Everyone does. Mrs. Cleaver and I realize that. We accept your apology son, and we are very thankful your mistake didn’t cost anyone’s life. Including your own. We aren’t going to press charges.
LUMPY: Thank you sir. I appreciate you being so understanding.
FRED: I appreciate it to Ward. Thanks for being so understanding with my boy here. We’ll be leaving now, so you can go see your son. (Shakes Ward’s hand)
LUMPY: Thank you Mr. Cleaver.
(Ward shakes his hand and pats Lumpy on the back. Fred and Lumpy leave and the doctor returns and escorts them to Wally’s room.)
DOCTOR: Now when you go in, you need to prepare yourselves. Wallace has very serious injuries. He has multiple cuts and bruises on his face and arms. He will also have several IV tubes in his arm and upper chest. These are just putting medicine into his body.
WARD: Thank you for everything doctor.
DOCTOR: Your welcome.
(Ward, June and Beaver all walk into the ward where Wally is. He is laying in the last bed away from the door behind a curtain.)
JUNE: (Gasps when she sees Wally)
WARD: Are you alright dear?
JUNE: Yes. It just…I hate seeing him like this Ward. (Ward pulls her close to him)
WARD: I know dear.
BEAVER: Boy, he sure got banged up.
WARD: Yes Beaver. Your brother is very lucky to be alive.
(Wally moves slightly in his bed, obviously beginning to wake up)
JUNE: (rushes to his side) Wally? Honey, can you hear me?
(Wally doesn’t respond, but moves a little more)
JUNE: (grabs Wally’s hand with one hand and strokes Wally’s hair with her other hand.) Wally? Your father and I and your brother are all here.
WALLY: (Slowly opens his eyes and looks at his mom) Mom?
JUNE: Yes baby, I’m here.
WALLY: Dad? What happened?
WARD: Wally, you were in an accident.
JUNE: That’s right, you’re lucky to be alive.
WALLY: (Wally slowly strained to speak) Oh. I’m sorry, I know you trusted me to have good judgment, but I still got in that car with Lumpy knowing he was drunk. I knew I only had ten minutes to get home and I didn’t want to be late. I know you would have understood if I had just explained, but I guess I just didn’t think.
WARD: Son, I think you showed excellent judgment. You were the only one at that party who didn’t drink, meaning you didn’t put anyone’s life in danger. That shows a lot more maturity than most grown men have. I’m very proud of you for that son.
JUNE: That’s right honey. We’re both proud of you.
BEAVER: Yeah, me too Wally.
WALLY: (notices his brother) Oh, hey Beav. I guess the party wasn’t as fun as we thought it would be, huh?
BEAVER: (Walks over to Wally’s bedside) I’ll say it wasn’t. Boy Wally, I’m sure glad you’re gonna be ok.
WALLY: Me too. (Slowly raises his arm and pats Beaver’s back.)
WARD: Well, son. We’re going to go home and let you rest. We’ll be back first thing in the morning.
JUNE: (not wanting to leave) Well, alright. I’ll see you in the morning honey. (Leans over and kisses Wally’s forehead.)
WALLY: Ok, mom.
WARD: Bye son.
BEAVER: Bye Wally.
WALLY: Bye dad, bye Beav.
(Ward and Beaver walk out. June stands there for a minute and reluctantly turns to leave)
WALLY: Hey mom?
JUNE: Yes son?
WALLY: Don’t worry. I’ll be fine.
JUNE: (smiles) I know you will Wally. I’ll see you tomorrow.
CLEAVER HOUSE - ONE WEEK LATER
Ward and June have just brought Wally home from the hospital. Ward and June are sitting in the den talking when the doorbell rings)
WARD: (answers the door. Lumpy is standing there) Oh. Hello Clarence.
LUMPY: Hello Mr. Cleaver.
JUNE: (Walks into the room) Hello Clarence.
LUMPY: Good afternoon Mrs. Cleaver.
EDDIE: (Walks up behind Lumpy) Hello Mr. Cleaver. Mrs. Cleaver.
JUNE: Eddie.
WARD: Hello Eddie.
EDDIE: I came over here to apologize for all the trouble I caused. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone.
WARD: Yes, I know you didn’t mean to Eddie, but your mistake almost cost our son his life.
EDDIE: Yes sir. I know that sir, and I’m really very sorry. I know you probably can’t forgive me, but I still wanted you to know.
WARD: We do forgive you Eddie. Just like we forgave Clarence. We know you didn’t set out to hurt anyone, you made a mistake. A bad one. But everyone makes mistakes. We forgive you Eddie.
EDDIE: Thank you sir. I appreciate your being so understanding.
LUMPY: We were wondering if we could see Wally. We would kind of like to apologize to him too.
JUNE: Well, boys I don’t know if he’s up to company.
WARD: June, I think they can go up for a minute.
JUNE: (reluctantly) Well, alright, but don’t stay too long, he needs to rest.
LUMPY: Yes ma’am.
CUT TO - BOYS BEDROOM
Beaver is sitting on his bed talking to Wally. Lumpy and Eddie come in.
BEAVER: Oh, it’s you guys. Why don’t you get out of here?
WALLY: Cut it out Beaver.
BEAVER: But Wally…
WALLY: Hey Beav, would you excuse us for a minute?
BEAVER: Well…(gives Eddie and Lumpy an angry look) Alright Wally.
(Beaver leaves the room)
WALLY: What did you guys want?
EDDIE: We came over to apologize Wally.
LUMPY: That’s right. We’re sure sorry about all that happened last week Wally.
WALLY: That’s ok guys.
EDDIE: Really Wally, If I had known all this would happen I would have never had a party at all. I really didn’t mean for anyone, especially you to get hurt.
LUMPY; Yeah. You were the only one who didn’t do anything wrong and you were the only one who got hurt.
EDDIE: You’re our best friend Wally, we’re really sorry.
WALLY: Look you guys. I know you didn’t mean for any of this to happen…but it did. But it’s over now. I forgive you guys.
EDDIE: Thanks a lot Wally.
LUMPY: So are we still friends?
WALLY: Sure we are.
EDDIE: Good. We’ll leave you alone now. See you later Wally.
(Lumpy and Eddie leave, Beaver comes back into the room)
BEAVER: What did those two creeps want?
WALLY: They came to apologize.
BEAVER: Heck Wally, you didn’t forgive them did you Wally?
WALLY: Well sure I did. I also told them we are still friends.
BEAVER: What’d you go and do that for?
WALLY: Listen Beaver, you’re supposed to forgive people when they make a mistake.
BEAVER: Yeah, but they almost got you killed.
WALLY: Beaver, no matter how big a mistake people make you should forgive them if they are truly sorry for it.
BEAVER: I dunno…
WALLY: Listen…what if it were you…
BEAVER: I’d never do anything like that…
WALLY: But still, if you’d made a mistake, you wouldn’t want your friends not to forgive you for it would you?
BEAVER: I don’t know.
WALLY: Sure you wouldn’t. You’d want them to forgive you and still be your friend. That’s what true friends do.
BEAVER: (thinks a minute) Yeah…I guess you’re right. If no one forgave anyone for their mistakes…there wouldn’t be any such thing as friends.
WALLY: Yeah.
FADE OUT
THE END.

Great job! I was holding my breath wondering what happened to Lumpy and Wally in the accident! Good to know they're both okay -- and I liked the lesson about learning to forgive people for their mistakes too!

This was a good one... I thought they did an episode on alcohol or something... Could be wrong though.
