View Full Version : Fred Rutherford is a dork

I think Fred Rutherford was the biggest dork in the history of sitcoms! He was such a corn-ball and so self-centered. He thought his kids were so above-average (when Lumpy was so below-average, but Violet was OK). Ward was always so tolerant of him--I don't know why. Lumpy would goof up and Fred would tell him to "march right over to the Cleavers and apologize". What a nerd! I liked Richard Deacon's character on the Dick Van Dyke Show (Mel, Alan's brother-in-law) much better. He was very funny.

He's not so much a dork because he's not really smart enough. Screech and Steve Urkel are dorks. Fred is more of a dweeb. He is someone who is both uncool and dumb. I think dorks and dweebs are subsets of nerds.

I love Fred Rutherford--he has some funny jokes that make me want to laugh every time I hear them, even though I know what he's gonna say, since I've seen all the episodes over a thousand times!!:)
