LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) -
Dick Van Dyke will slip back into
a set of "Scrubs" when he
guest-stars in an episode of the
NBC comedy in January.

D.L. Hughley, late of "The
Hughleys," will also make an
appearance in the episode,
scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23.

Van Dyke, whose TV career
spans nearly 50 years, most
recently starred as a
crime-solving doc in CBS'
"Diagnosis Murder," which
ended its run as a series in 2001.
He played the same character in two TV movies earlier this year.

On "Scrubs," Van Dyke will play Dr. Townshend, an old friend of Dr.
Kelso (Ken Jenkins) who works with J.D. (Zach Braff) in treating a
patient. The two clash when Townshend insists on using an "old school"
method of treatment that J.D. doesn't know and consequently screws
up.

In the same episode, Hughley will guest-star as Turk's (Donald Faison) brother Kevin.
Turk, who's trying to convince his girlfriend, Carla (Judy Reyes), to marry him, invites
Kevin to town to show that the men in his family take marriage seriously. The plan
backfires when Kevin announces he's getting divorced.

In other casting news, Dermot Mulroney ("My Best Friend's Wedding" ) has signed on
to appear in three episodes of "Friends" later this season. He'll play the guy who filled
in at work for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) while she's on maternity leave and now wants
her job permanently.

Mulroney's first episode will air sometime in January.
