I keep still watching the 3rd season of Malcolm every week in hope that it will start being funny again but tonight was the 2nd parter of the company picnic and it was just so bad that I nearly stopped watching half way.

All it featured was people shouting at eachother and fighting, I didn't see what was funny with any of it.

I think it's time for them to pull the plug on the show, what does anyone think?

I think they need to focus more on Malcolm..and less on family brawls and fighting. After all, its called MALCOLM in the middle...they should have more about him.

Aren't the ratings for Malcom down too. I remember it was in the top 30 most weeks last season but I've been looking at the top 30 and they haven't been there once.

You know, it was post-simpsons, and maybe thats why. Maybe they should put simpsons at 8, then malcolm at 8:30, and KOTH at 9...Andy richter is just pathetic....get rid of it!

I guess it is common for a sitcom to lose its edge. Especially when as brilliantly invented as Malcolm In The Middle, the gags are based on the tension between the characters and with an ironic idea behind them. It is not just the way the audience sees the character, it is as well the way the characters see each other and how they react. Mitm's humour lived from the rather realistic storylines. It was always a bit edgier then reality but never in a way which would make it implausible. And that is as well the problem. Since the characters get used to each other or the situation changes or whatever the tension between them gets lost. One can compare it to a batterie which is used up.
So the authors tried to make it even edgier with the result that the intelligent irony is replaced by slapstick. Suddenly Reese isn't the bully anymore but a boy philosophing about being a bully, the dad is more whiny than ever and the mother starts acting like a woman who is playing the über-mother. The plots get more and more implausible and impossible. The absolute end was when Reese got to Afganistan.

i think that as the show progressed throughout the years, the more boring it eventually got that you just couldn't care less what happened. i practically lost interest by the last ever series
