Right now I am in the process of re-rating my Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes. If nobody has any idea what this show is, I know a web site that will explain everything about the show. The show basically has a guy and two robots watching a bad movie and throwing comments back at the movie. It started out as a very cheaply produced show on a local Minnesota station called KTMA. The series began its national run on the Comedy Channel. The Comedy Channel and its rival Ha! merged together and formed into CTV, ran into legal problems with Canada and became Comedy Central. It was arguably Comedy Central's biggest hit in the early to mid 1990s. After 7 seasons, Comedy Central cancelled the series in 1996. MST3K was picked up by the Sci-Fi Channel, where it ran three more seasons before being cancelled for good in 1999. In all, 177 nationally broadcast episodes were produced. 21 KTMA episodes were produced, 18 of which are available among fans. The KTMA episodes cannot be shown on TV because KTMA never secured the proper rights for the movies aired (they were too poor to even get the rights to one movie).

Over its ten year run, taping the series became a very popular hobby. Today, many fans look to acquire every available episode ever made. I am one of those fans. I got back to tape trading earlier in the year and I soon acquired more MST3K episodes. Right now, I am taking a break from trading and I am starting to look at all my episodes again to rate them for quality. I figured while I do this, I could give a review of each episode I watch on this board.

That show was hilarious!! I'm annoyed that they only air the reruns once a week on scifi.

They don't have the rights to a lot of the movies on Sci-Fi now. Unfortunately, those ones were some of the best.

When does it air on Sci-Fi? I used to watch that show all the time, and then I could never find it on Sci-Fi! I loved that show! Thanks!

I adore MST3K!

And I LOVE Alphabet Antics!!! I have that on tape somewhere! For some reason the only line I remember from it is "Vill you dance wit me Eva?!?" and I just die laughing every time I see it!

Someday, if I had the time, I would like to get into collecting the show. Is there any network currently airing reruns? I haven't seen it on in a few years....

In the meantime though, I will be checking out your reviews to point me in the direction of the better episodes. Thanks! ;)

The only reruns airing are the few Sci-Fi Channel episodes they can legally show. The Comedy Central episodes are not on TV right now, although it is possible they can be reran (they would have to get the rights to the films and that can be expensive for a network to do). Starz has been airing MST3K The Movie for the past couple of months.

I am lagging on the episode reviews, with school and homework and stuff but when I see an episode, I'll post what I think. BTW, I haven't seen episode 307 in its entirety.

Thanks for replying. I see now that the question about when it airs was already answered before I posted. I must admit I was guilty of posting before reading the whole thread. :blush:

Thanks for the info anyway though. Sadly I don't have cable so I can only see it if I go to a friend's house or something. :'(

I loved that show. I lost touch with it after Joel Hodgson left, though, and I never saw the movie.

Having said that, is there any particular reason why this thread is a sticky?

Nobody on these boards knows about this show very well. I'm trying to promote it.

I was an on-off fan when it was new, but I had a short attention span, so I never watched a whole episode. However, I currently got into the DVDs. I bought and love "I Accuse My Parents". It's one with Joel and it's very funny. I have about six more, but only two with Mike (I prefer Joel). Crow's my favorite robot.

That sucks that they can't run the whole show as a series. But that they air it for the movie the guys watch. Maybe they will release every episode/movie.

Here's a list of some that I own:
The Crawling Hand (106)
I Accuse My Parents (506)
Mitchell (512) {Joel's Finale/Mike's Premiere}
The Brain That Wouldn't Die (513) {Mike's first Movie Experience}

I have more, but I can't remember the titles.

It is theoretically possible that the episodes can be rerun but it would cost a lot of money to get the rights. Plus some rights holders raised the price on their films because they didn't want them to be riffed on anymore. If they don't want that, why allow those movie to be shown on MST3K in the first place?:rolleyes: I think if old episodes were rerun the best stations would be HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, or Starz. I don't see that happening in the near future, though.

Since this is the MST thread, I though I would ask the fellow mysties a question.
Has anyone read any of the books by Michael Nelson?
I just finished "Mind Over Matters" and it was very funny. It's a great collection of essays.
Currently, Mike has a novel out called "Death Rat," which I have heard funny things about. I'll have to pick that up.
Of course, there's "Movie Megacheese" which is a collection of reviews written by Mike about movies and TV shows. I hope he writes a sequal to this.
Kevin Murphy (Servo) also has a book "A Year At The Movies" which chronicles the year he spent travelling around watching one movie a day!

Any other readers out there?

;)

I haven't read any of their books yet. Now if only BBI updated the Amazing Colossal Episode Guide. ;)
