I remember a movie like that once called The Killer Bees that ended just as stupid. The family was stuck in the house with the bees outside, but they went into the basement and dug into the ground and they made a tunnel underground and supposedly crawled like a mile to get to a nearby barn and they new EXACTLY which direction and how far to get to the barn. Then they go out of the tunnel and hugged and the movie was over.

Another thing that was kind of strange about The Birds was why would a school teacher tell the kids to just leave the school and run home, wouldn't they be safer inside the school?

That does sound like a crappy ending. I hate happy endings.

Not really, cuz like the mommy lady said...they had really big windows at the school.

According the the Internet Movie Database, Alfred Hitchcock deliberately ended the movie that way "to give the impression of unending terror" (which is why the movie doesn't finish with the words "the end." The IMDB also says that the final shot was supposed to have the Golden Gate Bridge covered with birds. However, the cost to film such a shot would have been very expensive, so the idea was discarded.

Yeah, I caught a few episodes of Hitchcock's show and the endings were just stupid to me. I loved the ending to the Psycho movie. That was prob. the only ending I liked in Hitchcock's works. Alfred kind of reminded me of the Assistant Principal at the high school. The principal looked just like Alfred Hitchcock.

I think for his time, Hitchcock was a true visionary. However, nowadays, some of his stuff seems kinda lame. IMO

I agree somewhat that some of his stuff seems a little lame.
There is no doubting he was a visionary, and tons of directors have stolen from him, but when I go back to some films I find I am not so interested anymore.

But North by Northwest is a great movie, maybe one of the best ever, besides the suspense and mystery, it is very funny and has a lot excellent quotes.

"I have two ex-wives, a mother and several bartenders depending on me."

"I'm a big girl."
"Yeah, and in all the right places, too".

"No. No, Mother, I have not been drinking. No. No. These two men, they poured a whole bottle of bourbon into me. No, they didn't give me a chaser!"

"What's wrong with men like me?"
"They don't believe in marriage."
"I've been married twice."
"See what I mean?"
"I may go back to hating you. It was more fun."

I only seen one thing of Hitchcocks that had a good ending and that was Psycho. That movie rocks. I loved the ending to that movie. Marion's sister roaming around in that fruit cellar. Norman runs into the room with this big smile on his face and a knife in his hand. All up to that part to the ending where Norman is talking in his mother's voice asking for a blanket.
