It seems doubtful WKRP will ever be on DVD in its original form as there are issues with the rights to the music played in the episodes.

But it may appear butchered in some form or other one day.

You know, this is almost a pessimist subject, I mean you never know.

Oh, and an ALF DVD is being released in Canada.

Try this link:

Well I was going for shows that would never be back on air. Small Wonder, ALF, Out of This World ect. all seemed like shows we would never get to see on DVD and I for one would like to.

I forgot to say "you Canadians are so lucky!!!" :)

ALF is currently on the air. It's still on The Hallmark Channel.

I'd love to own Barney Miller on DVD, but I don't think it's going to happen. :(

"Mama's Family" and "Ellen" may be on DVD in the coming years, because imo, they seem like they would. They'd probably throw in some "Family" sketches for the MF one if they ever made it. Though I would love it, I could guarantee that there will be no:

I don't care about MF because that show is on air, but Ellen I would for that show to come to DVD. I haven't seen that show in years.

This one we MIGHT see:

I would have to say the shows that we have trouble even getting on tape have no chance on DVD like WKRP and Punky Brewster. I would be surprised to see Alice on DVD but you never know. I thought I would never see Sanford and Son and I walked in last week and there it was so there is always a chance.

I think that for shows to be on DVD they better have lasted at least three seasons or more. I don't know how profitable it is for shows that did not make very many shows to be on DVD so shows like Mama's Family have a shot but if you are looking for the Munsters, Adams Family, or shows with short runs, then I think the prospects look dim.

The Munsters (70 episodes) and The Addam's Family (64 episodes) both only made 2 seasons in the '60s. Some shows these days that have 3 seasons don't even make 70 episodes! They both have a shot at going to DVD. I think you should pick different examples...

Well I know in the 60's they made almost twice as many per season as they do now so other examples might work better but I was dealing with total number of shows made, not really season. Those times in the 60's are a gone period in time so they might be exceptions but we will never see those days again so I think we can safely say that shows made after 1970 need at least three seasons to be on DVD ever. 24 shows a year. Those days of 37 shows in a season are history. After all, we would not want these stars who make half a million per show and more to make 3 or four more shows would we? If I was on Friends or Frazier I would be like write all you can!!! I will do 40 shows a year at these prices!!!
