The big news on ABC was week four of 8 Simple Rules at a time period winning 10.2/15 at 8 p.m. - 42 percent over former occupant Dharma & Greg on the comparable year ago evening (7.2/11 on Oct. 9, 2001). Although Fox's competing That'70s Show was pre-empted due to the Baseball Playoffs (ALCS Game 1: Minnesota vs. Anaheim, Pre-game: 5.3/ 8 at 8 p.m., 7.2/10 from 8:30-11 p.m.), one look at the four week metered-market track for 8 Simple Rules and it's obvious the sitcom is here to stay (13.0/21 - 9.7/15 -- 10.2/15 - 10.2/15). Congrats, ABC.
Dead in the 8 p.m. time period waters was the season premiere of NBC's Just Shoot Me at a distant third place 5.7/ 9 - three percent below former time period dud Emeril on Oct. 9, 2001 (5.9/ 9). At 8:30 p.m., ABC's According to Jim ranked a comfortable second with an 8.9/13 - 46 percent above NBC's now competing In-Laws (#4: 6.1/ 9). As always, NBC is providing minimal lead-in support to veteran 9 p.m. occupant Frasier.

Last night's leaders:
Judging Amy (#1 in timeslot: 10.8/17)
JAG (#2 in 8 p.m. slot, #1 in 8:30 slot: 10.5/15 overall)
8 Simple Rules (#1 in timeslot: 10.2/15)
Frasier (#1 in timeslot: 10.1/14)
The Guardian (#2 at 9 p.m. with 9.7/14, #1 at 9:30, overall #1 in 9 p.m. hour with 10.0/14)
NYPD Blue (#2 in timeslot: 9.0/14)

In the middle:
According to Jim (8.9/13)
NBC's Dateline (8.0/12)
Smallville (6.4/9)
Gilmore Girls (5.8/9, not bad at all for The WB)
Baseball (7.2/10 from 8:30-11 p.m)
Life with Bonnie (7.4/10)
Less Than Perfect (7.1/10)

Last night's losers:
Haunted (2.4/3)
Buffy (4.1/6),
Just Shoot Me (5.7/9; even Emril did better this time last year)
In-Laws (6.1/9)
Hidden Hills (6.9/10)

I think it's great that the two best shows on TV right now are doing great in the ratings [8 simple rules & less than perfect]. Also, on a side-note...Frasier seems to still get excellent ratings...I have no idea why the ratings have never fell. I loved Frasier for it's first 3 or 4 years, but I think it got a bit dull after a while.

Frasier has slipped the last 2 weeks though compared to the season premiere, The Guardian and Bonnie are almost beating Frasier.

To be perfectly honest with you, LWB's pilot was just hilarious, but these past 2 or 3 episodes have basically been unwatchable. I don't see this one going for more than one season...

Yay! I'm glad the ratings improved on the ratings of episodes two & three! Hopefully it'll be in the top 20 again this week.
