I was wondering why so many people on this board are so anti Roseanne against the show. Why? I love Roseanne I grew up watching the show witlh my family and to this day it is still my favorite show and my parents favorite show.

I like the show, but I think most of us here at the board personally doesn't consider it Nick at Nite material. That's what I think.

I thought the first couple of seasons were ok, but after that it seemed the show was written just to make Roseanne look good and only make her laugh. (All those freaky dream sequences) The finale was horrible. The show definitely lasted about 2-3 seasons too long!

I agree! In the later episodes all the males became weak stupid characters. You can see where Roseanne was at . It got so ridiculous! She ruined a very funny show! The characters were just not likeable anymore! What a waste!

I love Roseanne, its a great show but one thing that bugs me was the series finale. We all found out that the past 9 years were a lie. Becky married David not Mark, Darlene was married to Mark, Jackie was gay, they never won the lottery, Dan died the day Darlene got married, it was a weird ending. Also what was the peom supposed to mean at the end of the last episode? I never understood it.

Actually I beleive what she said is she always imagined that David would be with Becky and Darlene would be with Mark but that never happened. I beleive she meant that only the last season was not real and just a dream she made up. But Dan did die the season before. And about Jackie being gay what she meant is her sister in real life is gay not the character. She was talking about her real life and the character on the show. If I understood the finale right because I did watch it over and over to see if I could understand her only the 9 and finale season was made up and not real. She said she made all that up to cope with Dan's death.

About the hate on Roseanne here, I think it is true many people on this board don't like the show because Roseanne is in many people's list of worst sitcoms on this board. I think it only went one season to far. The 8th season should have been the last so they could have gone out with good ratings.

I sorta like the show but only the early episodes and I think that it is too young to come to N@N.

I'm curious, what is the "criteria" for a show to make it to N@N?

"Roseanne" was a good show, and I feel like many others here that it did last a season or two longer than it should have.

Penny Lane, you are right on the money (no pun intended).
There was mucho male bashing going on in the later seasons.

I guess Roseanne took her revenge out on the male characters on the show, to compensate for things going on in her own life...

I guess maybe because in the early first season they made her out be be this wife who did whatever her husband said. Remember the one where she wants to buy some perfume and her husband orders her not to and then she tries to hide the perfume. She would never do that in the later seasons she would have bought it and had an argument over that.

That's not true. In that episode Dan and Roseanne promised not to spend some money on extras, Roseanne bought perfume, Dan bought a bell for his boat. Both of them were in the wrong.

Roseanne always did things her own way, but she never was submissive to Dan.
In the beginning, her and Dan were always on equal footing, but by the end, Roseanne seemed so dominant that Dan was often doing his best to stay out of her way. She never listened to Dan, and seemed to blame everyone but herself if the outcome wasn't what she expected.

But remember what Jackie said. "you always do what Dan says" " You're just like mom"

On the 4th of July lets not forget about her personal life including her famous National Anthem singing.

I love Roseanne the actress despite her terrible personal life with the whole adoption thing exposed and the incest abuse she was put thru exposed, and those three marriages she went through. I don't think the whole man bashing thing ruined the show, men have been women bashing for years now.

Somewhere on the board, I have a Nick at Nite Spectrum Analysis that reveals the nature of Nick's Lineup, Style, and so forth. I just have to go and find it.

Incidentally, did you know the 1st 2 Letters of Your Initials (TJ) are the EXACT Initials of our friendly moderator and founder of Sitcoms Online? Righteous Man.

Amen.

In general, shows on Nick at Nite and TV Land (The Deadly Black Bar has no hope of course) should be Classics that are Older w/Hall of Fame Status like All In The Family and Three's Company.

"Roseanne" was a good show, and I feel like many others here that it did last a season or two longer than it should have.

The last season is Most Definitely a Jump The Shark that thus Disqualifies Rosanne from Hall Of Fame Status like Brady Bunch or All In The Family

The whole show was male bash, what w/Dan being the Pawn to Rosanne's Queen. This show did a good job of promoting The Feminist Agenda

I guess Roseanne took her revenge out on the male characters on the show, to compensate for things going on in her own life...

Very interesting that

I used to watch this show and thought it was funny, except for the last couple of seasons. A few years ago I caught a rerun on Fox and I could not beleive how mean and bullying her character was. It was like she was angry at everyone all the time and that's how the TV Roseanne was written too. It must have been hell working on that show as a directer, writer, or fellow actor.

Are you saying that Brady Bunch and All In The Family never jumped the shark?

I find that hard to believe...

I was never a big fan of the show, because it just wasn't funny to me. But everyone has different tastes.

For example, I love the television show Frasier, but a lot of people do not find Kelsey Grammer's style of humor funny.

No, I was saying that Rosanne's Shark Jump ruined the show for some people and that keeps it from being thought of as Great or Hall of Fame, sort of like Pete Rose's gambling kept him out of the Hall of Fame.

In Brady Bunch's case, Cousin Oliver and other such Shark Jumps enhance the show as a Campy TV Series and a Classic in Braderian Living. Why we even had our own poster in the Brady Board, Ficiopri, enhance the show w/Shark Bait (he's the dude that keeps posting on Growing Up Brady's mistakes).

In fact my love for Brady Grid:

--------:D-------:D-------:D-----

--------:D-------:D-------:D-----

--------:D-------:D-------:D-----

Is so much that I spent some time a while back reading the Jump The Shark Brady Board and Laughing At The Shark Jumps.

Amen.

And All In The Family is one Big Shark Jump. But yet its Righteous Cathode Ray Tube Viewing, and would make Righteous Literature.

Uh oh. Dingbat's on right now.

Let me turn it to Slick Nick

That a Bay!

Gotta run.

Even though I hate the show, I gotta admit that the ending of the show was very creative.

I liked Roseanne for the most part...

The best episodes were the Halloween ones.

Basically when Roseanne was good it was GREAT. But when Roseanne was bad it was HORRIBLE. The best seasons were during the middle years which just happens to be the years that Tom Arnold was co-producer. As soon as he and Roseanne got a divorce the show started to go downhill, but it didn't become unwatchable until they won the lottery, which later turned out to be a dream.

To me though, I've seen some of the cleverest scenes on ANY tv show during some of the better Roseanne episodes.

Like when Sarah Chalke replaced Lecy Goranson and she walked in the house and they were like "Becky you've been gone so long...and you've changed so much".

I guess Roseanne is an aquired taste....but I grew up watching the show so it has a special place with me.
