It seems like a lot of you have something against cheers and I was just wondering why.

Who here hates Cheers? I don't I think it is one of the best sitcoms ever. Whoever hates Cheers just has bad taste in tv shows if you ask me.

I tihnk most of the FOL people hate cheers because N@N took FOL off for no apparent reason, and then played Cheers all the time.

Cheers is pretty good! ;)

This is weird...but i have bad memories of Cheers. Because when it was on primetime I was too young to stay up and watch it on Thursday nights, and Cheers was like my cue that I had to go to bed. I remember NBC's 80's Thursday night schedule....It was Cosby at 8:00, A Different World at 8:30, Cheers at 9:00, and Night Court/Dear John/Wings at 9:30.

"Cheers was taped before a studio audience" was my cue to get up and head upstairs to bed. Sometimes I would try to act like I didn't know what time it was and my mom would just look at me.

But on the weekend, I could stay up as late as I want....Explains my love for the Golden Girls......Which was Saturdays at 9:00.

I'm a Cheers fan myself, but I think that saying someone has bad taste in TV just because they don't like your favorite TV show is just plain rude and immatre. How would you like it if I said you had bad taste in TV because you like Will & Grace? If people here don't like Cheers, then that's their opinion and hey're entitled to it.

I found the show extremely dull and boring. :sleep2: :sleep2: The bar scene isn't for me. It jumped the shark before it even started IMHO.

What I liked least was ALL the media hype it got when it went off the air in 1993, compared to "The Wonder Years" (one of my favorite shows which NEVER jumped the shark) which left the same year and got NEXT TO NO attention. Plus, TWY's finale was not shown during sweeps week. :( :(

I like Cheers but mostly the 1982-90 episodes. I can't stand the fact that it comes on four times a night, everynight. That makes it boring.

That wasn't NBC's or Cheers fault. If that's something that made you angry, you should blame ABC. They were the ones who chose not to renew it. They were the ones who also chose not to air the finale during sweeps. It was ABC's job to promote the finale and obviously didn't care too much about it to give the finale a buzz.

I respect anyone's opinion who didn't like Cheers.(That's what this board is all about) The reason Cheers got all that buzz is because it deserved it. The show lasted a long time and was still a solid ratings hit with viewers when they decided to call it quits. I agree that N@N shouldn't air it 4 times a night, but they wouldn't do that if people weren't watching it!

That about sums it up. The switch didn't bother me because I like Cheers way better than Facts Of Life, but to each their own.

Yea I really like it and I think it deserves all of its attention, its probably one of the only sitcoms that critics loved but audiences hated then audiences liked it, it got a bunch of emmys and other awards, and went to number 1 in the ratings...how many shows do that? I really love cheers its my all time favorite sitcom but if you don't like it I'll respect your opinion...:)

I personally loved the show, particularly during the first 2 years, but those who hate the show probably do not like the fact that it takes place in a bar, and of course the huge recognition that it has received.

But I liked it better during the early years, when Shelly Long was a member of the cast. I also liked it better when Coach was there.

Some people do not like shows that are hugely successful, that is why there are number of people who dislike Friends, Will and Grace and other shows which have garnered such acclaim.

I believe they're airing it a lot because Nick at Nite spent 75 Million Dollars for Cheers and they've decided that they can recoup the Innate Value of Their Purchase by...well...airing it Half The Night.

An interesting observation is that at the time of the Color Episodes, "The Andy Griffith Show" was The #1 Show On TV...and yet more people preferred the Black And White Episodes. Of course the Color Episodes of TAGS are more Subdued and Bland (despite the Color) than the Older Black And White Eps w/Barney, Gomer, Goober, and so on.

In fact, color eps of TAGS are one of the main Shark Jumps behind Barney Fife leaving the show. So In short I ask the ? "Is it a B/W or Color EP?" If its in Color, No Barney! Click!:D:eek::D

Amen.

I don't know. Cheers is sorta like those TAGS Color Eps (Mayberry RFD I think) in that it doesn't give me a Buzz like:

The Brady Bunch.

And such like Retro Shows.

But and however, Cheers can be complimented by the Man of Barnes here for giving Shelly Long the Stardom of The Brady Bunch Parody Movies...and as such, she becomes an Honorary Member of:

Brady Grid

Which is Righteous.

Amen.

So true...so true- the minute I see TAGS is a color episode, I turn the channel

It`s Boring. Any station that shows it should be pulled off the air.

Personally I like Cheers, it is one of my favorite shows. But I can understand why some people wouldn't like it, my dad dosen't but her loves Frasier, it's all just a matter of personal preferance.
