View Full Version : Nick at Nite = The Worst Cable Channel

Nick at Nite has become the worst cable network. It seems to me that Nick at Nite is not thinking logically. Did it ever occur to them that we turn to cable because we want to escape these shows that have been running forever in syndication? All of the shows they air with the exception of the Brady Bunch is currently on in syndication and probably will be forever. What we want to see is a variety of shows, particularly the ones that are no longer on in syndication. That was the case with The Facts of Life. But now Nick at Nite has no variety largely due to the fact that it only airs 6 shows:
The Brady Bunch
Family Ties
Cheers
Three's Company
All in the Family
The Jeffersons
This is a far cry from 10 years ago when they aired 13 different shows during the week. 10 years ago at this time:
Mork & Mindy
The Adventures of Superman
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Get Smart
Dragnet
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Green Acres
Mr. Ed
Dobie Gillis
The Patty Duke Show
My Three Sons
The Donna Reed Show
America 2 Night/Fernwood 2 Night
with F-Troop on the weekends.
At this point, I'm glad that The Jeffersons is moving to TV Land. Now, all that's left that may be saved is The Brady Bunch. Hopefully, TV Land will come to it's rescue. While Nick at Nite kills it's other shows by overplaying them and us along with them.

Iaasc Hayes. Yikes. Sorry, but he doesn't have the voice for voice-over network announcing. Pretty soon the network will be 8 hours of Full House reruns. That is SCARY.
The days of Nick@Nite airing "variety" is pretty much dead as we know it.
I'm sure its all about money. I guess they ( Nick ) feel it would be safer if they aired reruns of The Cosby Show and Roseanne than say Car 54 or Dragnet. I am wondering how long will it be til other than I LoveLucy, Gilligans Island, and Leave it to Beaver will
"reruns" be only shows from the 90s? Shows like The Simpsons. Friends, Newsradio, Drew Carey, ect..
I am also sure Nick@Nite ( and many of the other cable channels including TV Land ) use
consultants to see which shows they will air or not.
Reading many of the complaints about Nick, Tv Land, TNN, ect.. this may explain why so many good shows were taken off.
TNN: I can see a consultant right now saying something like"..you know you should reach the young males between 12 and 30 and they want to see The Rock, Goldberg, lots of wrestling.
Tough guy stuff plus lots of Pam Anderson. Make sure you show more boobs. Young males will tune it. First get rid of that Alice, Newhart, WKRP shi*. Young males dont want to see Vic Tayback and Mary Frann, they have been dead for years besides Linda Lavin isnt sexy..ect..."
You get the picture. its all about money and demographics.
Just like radio. People complain how bad radio is..well you can thank consultants for that. Why certain oldies dont get played ( our local oldies station is not allowed to play Dino Desi, & Billy for example ) or why one heres N'Sync every 12 minutes.

If that EVER happens, I'll stop watching TV, plain and simple.

That has always annoyed me. Some freak in a business suit decides what I should watch. That violates my right to free speech or something.

You know, I've always wondered why no one plays D,D,& B. Our oldies station sucks because they play the same Elvis and Supremes songs over and over and over. Yuck.

agreed. If they start showing 90's shows on every oldies channel then I might as well give up tv. They really need to see what the viewers are interested in, and not just assume what we want to see.

I personally think "Three's Company" is the only show that can be saved for good reasons (IMO)..."The Brady Bunch" has good kids demographics though...so maybe they can take it off Nick at Nite and put it on during the after school hours like they did in the late 80s. And "Three's Company" is only syndicated at under 5 stations right now, and I really want a break from that "Friends", aka 'Cow Manure'

Nick at Nite is no good...
They never show all the episodes of a series anyway and they only show shows that are allready on my local stations.

I have complained enough about Nick at nite or as it is known to some on the FOL board "The Cheers Network".So I wouldn't comment about it on here anymore.

I, for one, was glad when NAN got Cheers. It hasn't been seen in my area in 6 years. We get very little classic TV in my area. All we get is The Munsters, MASH, Bosom Buddies, and the 4 Screen Gems Network shows.
It's very clear that N@N has lost their focus. Ever since Three's Cmpany boosted their ratings, their shows and programming have gone down hill. I would venture a guess that for every new viewer that has tuned for Family Ties and Cheers, 9 viewers have stopped watching. The next "logical" step according to their thinking is to stop airing sitcoms all together because nobody watches sitcoms anymore. N@N should rename itself the Titanic because it's going down fast and the captain doesn't give a dam*.

Agree totally with all comments on this topic! I would like to see Nick at Nite even bought out by another network that at least cared about its fans. TV Land may still edit shows/have the damn infomercials but they don't edit as bad as nick-at-nite. Best thing would be to just take all the shows and move them to TV Land. Nick might as well show their little sh*t cartoons at night as well....N@N sucks
Nick at Nite is pig manure...for that matter so is Tv Land....
Id love to see a new classic sitcoms channel that caters to its viewers instead of against them.
Tv Land accused the person that started the remove split credits/voiceovers petition of making all those signatures himself pretending to be thousands of diffrent people.
They suck. Why watch this station?? My local channel runs the same shows without voiceovers and split credits.
Screw Tv Land and N@N !!!!

i know i have heard the answer to this before but I forgot. Anyways whats syndication ?
Its when a show airs on your local affiliates. In our area The Simpsons comes on at 6:00pm (central) and is followed by The Fresh Prince at 6:30 (central). It airs on WNOL or local WB affliate.

I happen to like Cheers and Family Ties but you are right Sitcoms need to get the (bleep) off of Syndication before they hit the cable networks

Nick at Nite needs to show more than six shows. If they could show every program only once a day like a sensible network, they'd have room for variety. Here's how I'd schedule it:
First things first, I would move The Brady Bunch to TVLand.
9:00 PM Diff'rent Strokes
9:30 PM Facts of Life
10:00 PM Family Ties
10:30 PM Cheers
11:00 PM All in the Family
11:30 PM The Jeffersons
12:00 AM 3's Company
12:30 AM I Love Lucy
1:00 AM Newhart
1:30 AM The Bob Newhart Show
2:00 AM The Mary Tyler Moore Show
2:30 AM WKRP in Cincinnati
3:00 AM The Beverly Hillbillies
3:30 AM Gilligan's Island
4:00 AM Laverne & Shirley
4:30 AM The Dick Van Dyke Show
and end it there. A sensible schedule, something for everyone, no repetition.
And did you notice that all 6 shows on the schedule now are on home video either in stores or thru the web or Columbia House?

I went to Hawaii on holidays with my 2 friends in the early 1990's.
We had not heard of Nick at Nite in Australia. The amount of times we were late going out because we were watching old TV shows was incredible. We couldn't get enough of them. These days though, it doesn't sound so hot. What a shame others can't get the thrill we did. Sadly, I have not seen Nick at Nite since Hawaii, but maybe one day.:)
