View Full Version : The WTC in the opening/closing credits of a show?
Were there any shows that featured the NYC skyline in which the World Trade Center's Towers were recognizeable in the opening or closing credits?

Friends....watch "The Best of Friends" and you can see the WTC Towers in many scene changes (You know..when they come back from a commerical break or are changing the scene).

The WTC towers are visible in the opening credits of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit". NBC has already said that those images will be edited out of future episodes.

I don't think it's right to edit out the WTC in TV and movies. We shouldn't act like it never existed.

Regarding older shows, I can't say for certain, but I think the opening credits for "Barney Miller" and "Night Court" contained shots of the New York skyline, which would have included the WTC. Also, the various iterations of "Saturday Night Live" have always featured scenes from all over New York City, so there's a good possibility that in some seasons, the opening montage may have included the World Trade Center.

I just remembered that the 9th season opener from The Simpsons featured Homer in NY and the twin towers. I wonder if they'll pull this episode.

I doubt that Simpsons ep will air. I think it would be good to not use it *anymore*, but we shouldn't edit scenes that have already been aired.

Wow, I had forgotten about this one. I bet we'll see it again eventually, but not anytime in the near future.
What about last season's episode of The Simpsons when they blow up the Mad Magazine building in NYC in the Party Posse episode?

Good catch, Zack. I bet it'll be a while before that one makes it into reruns as well.

I forgot about that episode because I hated it, but that's a good one to wonder about.

"Veronica's Closet" didn't have the World Trade Center in the credits (I don't think)
but they did have it in between scenes where they'd show the NYC skyline.

I just saw the opening credits of Barney Miller (1st Season)in this TV Land Loves NY Fandemonium, The World Trade Center was visible!
The one ep. of the Simpsons with Homer & WTC
has been pulled by FOX and according to the AP will never be seen again. This was announced about a month ago.
But I'm sure that in a few years the folks at Fox will once again put it back into syndication.
I have to correct myself - "Veronica's Closet" DID show the World Trade Center in its opening credits during its second season.

FYI, that episode was called "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson," and I'm glad I taped it when it originally aired. I'm not so sure it'll EVER be seen again, and if it's not already available on VHS or DVD, it should be donated to the Museum of TV & Radio. They have quite a few Simpsons episodes there.

During the Last Season of "Welcome Back, Kotter", after it says WBK and before it says costarring, it's the first of the four scenes that show up in those boxs

The opening of the animated show "The Critic" shows the WTC buildings. I agree they should leave the WTC shots in past shows. But, since the WTC buildings no longer exist, leaving them in would not represent a "current" picture of the city...that's why I think those images are being edited out.
though not a sitcom but for some reason many of the pay movie channels have been showing the 1975 movie "Dog Day Afternoon" a lot lately. The movie features a scene of WTC.

Also not a sitcom the 1976 remake of "King Kong" features the World Trade Center prominently in its climax; the hairy behemoth ascends one of the towers instead of the Empire State Building.
Archie Bunkers Place has WTC in the closing credits on all 97 episodes.
i NEVER REALIZED until after the attack on the U.S. when i was watching my tapes did i pick up on this. Its back in the skyline in the background ,not close up.
I looked at AITF close credits but didnt see it on there.

The NBC Kids' Show "City Guys," still show the World Trade Center in the title card.
