Do you think they can get past their current problems with the
aid of a new police chief? I am talking about all the scandal that
has rocked LAPD in the last few years, including the Rodney King
incident, the Rampart Division scandal and the O.J. Simpson case.

Nah, I don't think that changing one person will make much of a difference. They've changed the police chief several times in the recent past... not much difference.

At least the police and political arenas in L.A. are not as corrupt as they were back in the 30s and 40s, when apparently every official was on the take in some way or another.

Maybe. I have this bad feeling that if the Parks departure gets finalized, riots or protests among the African American community will erupt. Maybe not to Rodney King degree, but not great nonetheless. Yet I still think they'll come out okay. :) They might be on a good start with the Robert Blake case. By that I mean waiting a year until they had all their evidence and were 99.9% sure they had their man.

No, I doubt that they will ever get past all of these scandals going on. Personally, I think when Cheif Parks leaves his position crime rates will go back up, and everything might go back to where they were before he came along.
