OK, anyone who has ever been in jr. high or high school, or is there now, did you guys ever have to watch that news thing for schools, Channel 1?

I didn't know there was a channel 1. Here, the channels just begin at channel 2 with the Shopping Channel. The channel 1 here is basically a audio visual channel. Just a black screen. It's nothing.

Yeah, I watched it in 7th and 8th grade. Then when I hit high school, I only had to watch it in certain classes. I remember watching it in U.S History, Civics/Economics, and Psychology/Socialogy. I think those were the only classes I had to watch Ch. 1 in. Of course, I hardly watched them unless they had something good on which was like a 1 out of 10 shot.

It's not a channel, it's the name of of a school news program. They just call it channel one like what we call FOX News on Fox news channel. And yes I do get it, and yea, it is boring sometimes. :)

We watch it at my school but I just talk or whatever because its really boring. Occasionally I watch it if something on there is interesting but most times its stupid. Janet from Real World Seattle is on there though. I thought that was cool. Anyone else going to miss Maria Menudos (I think thats her name)? lol

Yea, today was her last show. :(

Now we have that weird guy with the "fake" British accent. For anyone who watches it, you know what I'm talking about.

I'm gonna miss Maria Menounos, but at least she's leaving for a good job at ET. That fake British accent guy, Errol Barnett or something is dumb. Hlf the kids in our class cant understand what the heck he's saying most of the time.

I was wondering if anyone from our generation had replied yet!

Anyway, I had to watch Channel One all 4 years in high school. I actually liked it somewhat. Sometimes it was laugh out loud funny, and they did a decent job of bring news to a segment of the population that might never watch it otherwise.

I was just gonna tell the younger folks here to remember those Channel 1 faces, and you can recognize them when they get "real" jobs. At least 3 Channel 1 stars from my day went on to other high-profile jobs. Anderson Cooper works for ABC News (though the only time I've ever seen him was on like a 3AM broadcast), Lisa Ling is on The View, and Serena Aschtul (sp? I know I butchered that) was on MTV News, though I haven't seen her for about a year now. :(

Dawsongirl, so you remember when Lisa Ling went to China? I thought it was hilarious because she was hiding out in some secret room because it's like illegal to broadcast news from China or something, and she was whispering into the camera "It's very dangerous here. If anyone caught us we could be captured, possibly tortured or killed!" I don't even remember why they went there in the first place, I just remember poor frightedned Lisa Ling whispering. And poor Anderson Cooper, they always sent him to the war zones, so he always did his stories with a pile of dead bodies near by, like in Somalia.

 YES! I remember that. I kept thinking, if it's so dangerous and illegal, then why are they there anyway? Didn't she also go to a Middle Eastern country where she had to be covered from head to toe? I remember her in a hotel room putting on her garb saying something about if she was caught dressed like that, they'd arrest her or something.

I also remember some blonde who kind of reminded me of Heather Locklear who went to some war torn country and was broadcasting when bombs were going off. She ended up hiding in this concrete tunnel.

Yeah, I remember when Lisa Ling went to the Middle East! ahh.. :music: Memories...like the corners of my mind.. :music:

I don't remember the girl hiding in a tunnel, but I do think I know what girl you are talking about. I also remember once, I think it may have been the same girl, she was covering all those floods we had, I think in 1995. Anyway, she was standing in water up to the middle of her shin, in a raincoat, talking about how strong the current was. Then she got knocked down by the current! :rotflmao: It was so hilarious! I suppose I shouldn't be laughing at her misfortune, but it's not like she got injured or anything, just really wet!

My Channel 1 is NY1, and the only time I tune into there is when I need to know the weather. ;)
