Much has been said about Nick's/TV Land's promos for their shows but what about the network/local promos that seem to be everywhere in the 70s and 80s.
anybody remember...
*NBC..lets all be there !!!
*You & CBS lookin good together !!!
* You & Me and ABC !!!
*NBC..just watch us now !!!
*NBC us !! ( get it? )
*You got the touch..you and CBS !!!
*HBO people dont miss out !!!
*Still the one..ABC !!
*Now is the time..ABC is the place !!!
*Great moments are on CBS !!!
*This is who we are and this is what we do-WTBS !!!
*Come on along...ABC !!!
even the older ones were cool, I have a 1972 CBS promo for Maude ( when it was a brand new show ) with Bea Arthur asking "do you wanna see some good pictures" and then came clips of Maude. Very well done !!
Then you got the local promos. I remember the one that aired on WBFF 45 out of Baltimore that used the slogan" we've got something good for you" and showed scenes of people working around Baltimore. Enjoying Baltimore. Even showing people walking the steets after dark in Baltimore, something I dont think I would want to do, I've been there!!
The Jeffersons ( and Les & Carlson from WKRP ) were used in a promo for Baltimore's channel 11 ( WBAL ) when they switched from NBC to CBS. "Weezie, My friends in Baltimore cant find us on tv, what gives?
" Why George, you know !! We are now on Channel 11!!! You know the same place where you can find Rudy Miller and the rest of the Action News team".
Talk about "shameless plugs" !!
DC's channel 5 used the old jazz tune "take 5" to promote its line up back in the late 70s.
The most cheesiest one ( well 2 ) I remember was from a tv station in Pennsylvania ( then CBS ).
Showed scenes of people at the bank, supermarket, the local high school football team, the firemen, ect... all saying " we love you channel 15 ", " channel 15 we are so proud of you". " cant live without my channel 15".
The promo lasted a good 4 minutes and they never did give a reason why sooooo many people in Pennsylvania "loved channel 15".
then you had the Virginia ABC station that had a local school's 2nd & 3rd graders sing
"Now is the time...channel 3 is the place"
as well as promoting channel 3's and ABC's line-up. Those little kids even promoted FRIDAYS!!! Even Jim Bakker's PTL CLUB !!!
gotta see to believe it !!!
