I looked a several online sites; only one gave an occupation. Is it right? I dunno.
But that one site said that Ward was an accountant.
Hmm... I guess none of the episodes happened at tax time.

Actually, we really never learn what Ward Cleaver's occupation was in any of the episodes. All we know is that he went to work in a downtown office with Fred Rutherford. It can be nailed down to the following occupations: an accountant, and engineer (from his work in the Seabees), or an architect. :)

It was said after the series what his occupation was but on the series it never said.

This is one of the old debates among Beaver fans on several LITB boards, probably second to "Where is Mayfield located?" In either case we are never told specifically, but like to attempt our best guess theories. Mine would be that Ward is an Account Executive for a firm of financial planners.
I know some want to believe he was an engineer because he refers to having been one when Beaver finds out he built bases in the South Pacific, instead of being a combat hero. But the few times there is a scene in his office, there is nothing to indicate it is that of an engineer. Neither is that suggested by the rare exchanges about the "Thompson reports" or the "Miller audits." These are more like accounting terms. But the office does not seem like a CPA firm either when they refer to the "home office" in New York, or when it is alluded that Ward works for a "large" or "substantial" company.
Once Ward remarked that they (his company) takes clients to lunch at the White Fox, the expensive restaturant Wally was on the hook for taking Julie Foster to, and once he refers (presumably in jest) to "leaving millionaire clients waiting" to leave and get Beaver's kite kit. So his business seems to be with corporate representatives and/or with wealthy individuals. So although he could be a CPA or a consulting engineer, it seems to me being a conslultant/planner serving corporate or personal interests in a national company with many branch offices is the 'best guess.' Consider a financial planner for Schwab, Fidelity, or Edward Jones, and that's the general idea.

Mt theory is that references to the "Thopmpson Reports", the "Millar Audits" and millionare clients are all red herrings and that Ward actually worked for the CIA or some other goverment agency.:happyface

This evening I looked at Leave it to Beaver and noticed that Ward laughed....... I mean laughed  because Wally had to wear a dress for a school play. I chuckled along with him but, I haven't seen him laugh like that in a long while. He's always so serious....... (Or maybe I have always felt this way seeing he's the father.)
Another thing he was helping his wife dry the dishes ("Yes" she had on her pearls). I never noticed that he helps his wife with the chores........

Rusty Stevens, who played Larry Mondello, left the show when his family moved from California to New Jersey during the show's run. That's why he left and never came back.
I've heard that Larry works in the Insurance field today, but doesn't make it a point of telling people who he was...I don't know if he denies being Larry Mondello, but apparently he doesn't make a big deal about it either.
