View Full Version : Thunderbirds
Does anyone remember the "Thunderbirds" show? It wasn't a cartoon, it was a marionette sci-fi show from the '60's. Is it in reruns anywhere? I remember seeing it reruns years ago...like in the 80's...but haven't really seen it since. It's a fun show.

This has the honor of being the very FIRST Science Fiction Show I saw. It was the Fall of 1965 and I was six years old at the time. Returning home from school, I would immediately turn on my TV and watch Bozo. On this fateful day though, the President (Lyndon Johnson) had the nerve to hold a Press Conference during Bozo's timeslot! But living in the Detroit Area meant I had a trick up my sleeve. Across the river was Windsor, Ontario and their TV Station also had kids's shows. Tuning to that station what did my eyes behold? Puppets flying Spaceships and operating fancy Gadgets and Machines. I Like! From that point on it was Goodbye Bozo, Hello Thunderbirds! They ran some of the other Gerry Anderson Series too, I was introduced to Supercar, Fireball XL-5 as well. A year later they were taken off and replaced with other programs, but my withdrawl was short-lived, as word got out about a new "Space Show" (This is what me and my friends called these kinds of shows), that was now showing. This new show featured a spaceship that looked like a Flying Saucer with a bunch of tubes sticking out of it, and had among its crew a strange Alien with "Pointy Ears".
Today I have this series, as well a lot of the other Gerry Anderson Sci-Fi TV Shows and Movies, on DVD and from time to time I'll pop in a disk and relive my Childhood days of past. :)
