The Keatons! "Growing Pains" was considered a ripoff of "Family Ties" when it premiered. I don't know why, though -- must have been the three kids.

"Family Ties" is more sophisticated, and has better scripts.

The Keatons! "Growing Pains" was considered a ripoff of "Family Ties" when it premiered. I don't know why, though -- must have been the three kids.

"Family Ties" is more sophisticated, and has better scripts.

GP had a ton of similarities. Both shows had a baby born about midway into the run who aged into a six year old after a season or so. Both Michael J. Fox and Kirk Cameron became teen heartthrobs and were launched into film careers, of course Fox was a lot more successful. Both shows lasted seven seasons and both had their ratings peaks following other shows (TCS, WTB) and fell when they moved timeslots.

However, I much prefer FT, I grew up an NBC kid in the 80's, and I like the FT cast better.
