Can you solve the mystery?

<UNSLOVED MYSTERIES THEME>

Hello, this is Robert Stack.
Some one was murdered on Sunday morning.
The police interviewed the suspects and
got their alibis.

Here are the suspects!

Cook:I was cooking.
Maid:I was getting the mail.
Wife:I was sleeping.
Buttler:I was out getting some food.
Son named Paul:I was at my friends house, honest!

The police arrested the murderer with no problem at all.
Who was the murder and how did the police know so easily?

'Twas the maid. She was lying because mail isn't delivered on Sunday.

I see we have a professional working here! Good job Bootsy!
Now, if ya wanna solve another one, I've got just the one for ya! ;)

The keeper of an apartment has reasons to believe that a thief is lurking around in his apartment. He decides to invite a detective over to his apartment for further investigation on the thief. The detective then is one day pondering in his room when a knock on the door was heard. A man waked in and said "Oops, I thought this was my room, sorry." and left. The detective immediately arrested the man, why?

Hmm....well I'm not sure about this one, but I'm thinking he arrested the man because he knocked first and then said he thought it was his room. If it was his room, the man should have had a key and wouldn't have needed to knock. However, if a thief was about to rob an apartment he would want to knock first to ensure it is unoccupied before entering.

Right again!
Hmmm......I need to find a tough one for you! You seem to be very clever and good at these! I can't think of any harder ones, but here's an easy one to ponder on in the meanwhile!

There once was an evil wizard. He took 3 women from their homes and turned them into rose bushes that looked exactly alike. He put them in his garden. One of the women had a husband and children and begged the wizard to let her see them. He agreed. At night he brought the woman to her house. In the morning he came and took her home. One day the husband decided to go rescue her. So he snuck into the wizards garden. He looked and looked at the 3 identical rose bushes trying to figure out which could be his wife. Suddenly he knew the answer and he took his wife home. How did he know which rose bush was his wife?

I have an idea for that one, but since I got the last two I'll give others a chance to answer before I say anything.

As for "being very clever and good at these," I would say that the "Two-minute mystery" genre of brainteasers is probably what I am best at. I suck at lateral thinking puzzles like the "nine people dead in a cabin" one on the other thread. And Max's d@mn "Pig + ? = Cow" has been driving me crazy off and on for the last two days!!!!  :dizzy: :dizzy: :livid: :smash:

I would have to say by looking at the soil. Two of the plants had been there the entire time, but his wife had been taken out and then put back.

No, none of those are right, but good guesses. Ags2000, you are on the right path, but still off. I'll also change a rule. If you want to ask me a question, you can, as long as they are only Yes or No questions. And thanks Bootsy for not guessing. I don't know if I can come up w/ another brain teaser to stump you!

Well my guess was pretty much the same as Ags'. Either that the soil was packed differently or that the wife was in a flower pot or something.

Well no, but remember, the wife wasn't there at night. What could have changed overnight. She was put in the ground the same way as the others.

Yes, you won. There was no dew on the wife, so that's how he knew. Good Job!
