I just had to post something...I have to post a subject about 3 excellent actresses who have lost their lives in the past, I'm surprised that I have not done this but I have to. Dana Plato, Lucille Ball, and Madeline Kahn. 3 excellent actresses lost their lives, and this message is dedicated to them. You 3 are my favorite actresses, and it is sad to know if you've passed on. God bless if you're reading this post, and I one day hope to see you up there.
PS: I'am very busy, I'am surprised that I got to post this 1 message....so I won't be on much.

I agree that Lucille Ball, and Madeline Kahn were great actresses, but I would never put Dana Plato in the same category as the other two. Dana Plato was a marginal actress at best, where as the other two had long and distinguished acting careers. I do however have sympathy for Dana Plato's untimely death, but to give her undeserved credit is something which I cannot stomach.

I'd have to agree with that.
I loved Madeline Kahn as Mrs. White in "Clue."

I agree with you, callmetootie. I miss all of those actresses. Madeline Kahn was great in "Young Frankenstine", and I've read she was pretty good in "Oh, Madeline"
Dana Plato had so much going for her in the 80s...to bad it came all crashing and burning.

Madeline Kahn was also great in Blazing Saddles, Lucille Ball got her start in one of the Three Stooges films in the 40s, although you would hardly recognize her, because she used to be a blond.
I can't beleive the first two repliers. They guy makes a dedication for three actresses and you say that one doesn't deserve it.I think that is very mean and rude especially if that person is dead.

I disagree, I am just being honest. If someone were to say that Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Hitler were great men, would I be wrong in saying I agree with the first two, but Hitler was not a great man? Would I be less of a person for making that correction, even though Hitler is dead?
Actors are public figures, we evaluate them on their whole body of work, much like we do with world leaders. In my opinion Dana Plato was not a great actress, I have seen virtually everything she has done, and I am convinced that she is only a marginal actress. But this does not mean that I don't like her, because I actually do.
But at the same time to compare her with Lucille Ball and Madeline Kahn is just plain ridiculous. Because these actresses accomplished so much on both stage and film, and to make that comparison is unfair to Lucy and Madeline. It is also unfair to Dana, because she really should be judged next to her peers, i.e. Nancy McKeeon, Kim Fields etc. etc., rather than being compared to 2 great stars such as Lucy and Madeline. There is nothing mean spirited in what I said, I am just stating the facts.

It's a tragedy that Dana Plato died so very young, but I wouldn't exactly rank her alongside some of the great actresses of our time. I mean, Lucille Ball, Madeline Kahn, and Dana Plato? You have to admit that hearing them mentioned together kind of makes you laugh (or at least me, anyway). No offense meant to Andrew.
To each his own, though. I'm a big fan of Sela Ward, but I know people who can't stand her. There's no accounting for taste.

TV Guy, Sela Ward I would consider a great actress, I really loved her in the Fugitive with Harrison Ford, she has also done so many other projects to great acclaim.
"The Argument Culture" is the title of a book that addresses just this sort of gotcha blather. Tiger 32, you might try reading Callmetooties "dedication" before jumping all over it You actually worked "Hitler" into a conversatin about a dedication to actresses who have died. Wow! I don't see anywhere in Callmetooties dedication where he asks anyones opinion about the quality of the three actresses. It appears to me that the post is directed toward, as well as dedicated to the actresses. He writes:
"God bless if you're reading this post.".
"This message is dedicated to them."
Common decency and a grain of inteligence should tell you that the purpose of Callmetooties dedication is to ask any and all who would like to join in and pay their respects to Dana, Madeline and Lucy, please do so. Anything other than that doesn't belong in this thread.
RIP: Dana, Madeline and Lucy. I Thank each of you for sharing your lives with us all.

Andrew,
That was a sweet dedication. I 'm sure they read it. The sad face is because they are gone. Though they will never be forgotten. I have appreciated all 3 of those actresses in their work. I also if I may add Anissa Jones.(Buffy from Family Affair)

Kittflynn, I did read the dedication, and my response still stands. However, you are offbase if you are trying to attack my intelligence, or decency. If I were not a gentleman than I would attack you for that remark, but I do not want to turn this forum into a personal attack.
However, since this is an open forum, I will express my opinion from time to time. My opinion may not be shared by everyone in this forum, and that is ok, because we are all different. However, if Dana Plato was a great actress as some have claimed, than give me a compelling reason as to why you think she was a great actress.

Andrew,
Unlike some people in here, I thought that was a very nice dedication to those 3 actresses. I wonder why I didn't do one myself. I too, hope to one day meet them up there. And if you girls get a chance to read this up there, I want you to know that we all miss you very much like crazy. As a fan, you brought joy and laughter to me even when times were miserable and that is something I will always cherish. We'll NEVER forget you.

Tiger32:
You're missing the point of the post and of my comments to you. You wrote: "I read the post and my response still stands." What are you responding to? Callmetootie wrote: "You are my 3 favorite actresses and it' s sad to know you've passed." He wrote his personal opinion about the 3 actressed inside a post that is a dedication to the actresses. He didn't ask anyone else to agree about their acting ability. You may express any opinion on any post on the sitcom boards that you care to, so long as the moderators don't object. And ordinarily we'll have a civil discussion, some give and take and go on. In this instance you have so grossly misinterpreted the purpose of what Callmetootie was sharing with us that I chose not to let it pass.

Kittflynn, I think we are really beating a dead horse here, obviously you only want responses that are in agreement with the original poster, regardless of wether the statement is accurate or not. I have no problem with the memorial part, my only problem is with the accuracy of the statement.

Your audacity, Tiger32, is the rub. You know "obviously" what I want, and you "can not stomach" Callmetootie giving Dana Plato "undeserved credit".

This is a really good topic. Let me start my tribute with the Queen of Comedy, Lucille Ball. Her zany situations on her tv shows brought a whole pack of fans to be Lucy fans. Fans and viewers could forget their problems for a few minutes a day and get into the life of Lucy. She has brought so much to the comedy world, that will never be duplicated by another. Lucy will forever and always be known as the Queen of Comedy. I know she is sitting up in heaven with her crown perched on her head. She deserves that crown, because she has entertained many in her lifetime. As long as reruns of her shows air, then more Lucy fans will be recruited into being lifelong fans.
The next actress that I want to talk about is Dana Plato. I'm a fan of Dana's and she does deserve acclaim for entertaining people. Dana proved on Diff'rent Strokes what kind of actress she really was. She could be comedic or dramatic. She played both points equally well, and I don't recall a moment where she was being over comedic or over dramatic. She played each strictly even. She really was a wonderful actress. It's sad that she isn't here anymore to entertain fans, but like I said above as long as reruns and videos are around then her legend will live on.
I'm kind of embarassed to admit that I don't recall seeing Madeline Kahn in anything. I'm sure she was a wonderful actress to, and has a legion fanbase also.
Can I extend this topic a bit guys? Let's talk about actors too. Just jump right in on any actor you want to talk about that has passed on.
The actor that I want to talk about before I post this post is Carroll O' Connor. I'm sure everybody will recognize that name as Archie Bunker. He wasn't the only actor that gave me a lump in my throat when I heard he had passed on. I remember watching reruns of All in the Family on N @ N and Tvland and thinking what a wonderful actor Carroll was. I mean, you just had to laugh at some of Archie Bunker's ideas. When Archie Bunker was in a situation and showed his soft side, it would usually make me cry. Personally, I think Carroll O' Connor is the King of Comedy jmo.
Television is a wonderful invention. With the wonder of television we will always be able to remember Lucy, Dana, Madeline, and Carroll doing what they do best- entertaining people. I don't think anybody in today's tv shows will ever come close to Lucy, Dana, Madeline, or Carroll.
R.I.P Lucille Ball, Dana Plato, Madeline Kahn, and Carroll O' Connor
