View Full Version : Have you met somebody famous?
The post about who we want to meet got me thinking, between all of us, we have to know somebody!
I've met Richard Dreyfuss and Eric Idle (of Monty Python). I've also met Jodi Benson (who was the voice of The Little Mermaid). That's it.

The only celebrities I've ever met are athletes. The most famous of those would probably be Mark Messier (a hockey player), who held me in his arms....of course, I was only 4 years old at the time! My older sister was a big hockey fan and took me with her to meet him. I had my picture taken with him. :)

Now that you mentioned athletes, I've also met a couple of Basketball players and baseball players. I have autographs from autograph sessions.
One more thing.... I've met the stars from an old soap opera from the 60's called Dark Shadows. I took pictures of the cast and have a few autographs as well.

Unfortunately I've never actually met anybody famous. The closest I came was when I was 3 and Princess Diana waved to me. I don't actually remember this but my mother assures me that it happend. Not that I care cos I was never a huge fan of the royal family.
Any of you guys heard of the Manic Street Preachers? They're a Welsh rock band and they're huge over here. Anyway, I've been to their bass players house....but I didn't actually meet him....long story. I guess that doesn't count. My mate Kirsty has met Kelly Jones from the Stereophonics though - that was pretty cool.

You've been to Nicky Wire's house? Cool. So I guess it's safe to say I've heard of them, considering I have every album of theirs, except Gold Against the Soul. Anyway, your friend met Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics- that's pretty cool too. I'm thinking of catching their show in the city next week. Maybe...
But, the closest to meeting a famous person was actually two weeks ago. See, I was down in Monterey for the weekend, and on our way home we stopped in Salinas.
If you don't know, Salinas was the hometown of famous author John Steinbeck. He wrote "Of Mice and Men", and "The Grapes of Wrath", etc. Many of his novels took place around Salinas.
Anyway, they have a John Steinbeck museum. It's quite nice and all, so we went in.
It was a Sunday afternoon, so practicly no one was in there. We watched this 5 minute video about Steinbeck and then went to the Expedition hall, where all these diplays are, etc.
But at the entrance of the hall, there's a couple people standing at the first display. There's this one blond guy, which is slicked back. He's a bit taller than me, and I'm thinking that he looks awfully familiar.
I'm like two feet behind him, so I pretend to get a closer look at the display, and that's when I glance over at him. It's Spike!
Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
Of course, I hurried ahead and for the rest of our time there, I kept on looking back at him. I didn't try to be obvious, and I wasn't.
Anyway, that's my brush with celebrity, in practicly the middle of nowhere. What the hell was he doing in Salinas? Probably on his way up to the Bay Area, I guess. It was a really weird experience though, I can say.

Pierre Lalonde (hosted the Mad Dash gameshow)

You should definately go if you get the chance - the 'Phonics are brilliant live!
And just to clarify - I wasn't actually inside Nicky Wire's house. Myself and a couple of mates were down in South Wales on holiday in 1998 and we did a bit of detective work and found out where he lived. We just sorta hung around on the street outside his house all afternoon.....for 3 days in a row. To be honest I'm surprised noone called the police on us!

I know I should. I'll probably kick myself if I don't.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Hanging outside of a famous person's house and all...That's funny, cause I was gonna ask you what kind of dinnerware he has. Just kidding! Maybe what kind of toilet paper...
Anyway, I've been to Skywalker Ranch. You know, the headquarters of George Lucas's empire. It's really quite nice. There's a lake that's called Lake Ewok, ad there's a softball field, and a fitness center, and the sound building that I actually had lunch in. Good food. The main house is really beautiful and that's where he has displays of real props from his films. Like the original Obi-Wan lightsaber and the three stones from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. There was also the monkey head from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I went into his library too, which had this golden stained glass ceiling. It put this wonderful glow on everything.
The gift shop was cool too, because EVERYTHING was like 75% off from it's regular price. I bought a videogame that hadn't even came out yet for $15!
Anyway, that's the closest I came to a famous person's house. He himself was probably scouting locations for Episode II at the time.
